I am having a hell of a time trying to calibrate this mic. It's a black Logitech wired USB microphone. I own a 46" Sony Bravia. I'm running component cables from the wii to the tv. then analog cable from the monitor outputs to my Samsung 5.1 receiver. I've already tried connecting the wii's audio component cables directly to the receiver, as well as playing right off the tv's speakers. the mic lag is still there. no matter how i calibrate, its still bad enough to throw me off even though i know just about every beatles song by heart. I keep reading to turn off the 'dolby digital 5.1' setting from within the game. i can not for the life of me find that option. i rented the game and dont have the manual. is it a problem with the wii? i also have a ps3. would it be better on that system? if someone with the wii could point out to me where to turn off the digital 5.1 setting, or offer some advice i would be very greatful. im dying to just play this game properly. PLEASE HELP!!!

edit: what if i were to use the original analog cables the wii came with... do you guys think it would help?

The "Dolby Digital" option can be found through the Options menu from the main screen. I believe there's an "Audio Options" or something like that in the Options menu.

You're definitely going to want to run sound directly from the Wii to your receiver. Using the TV's passthrough audio ports adds an extra layer of processing and delay that is unnecessary.

@davidshek

thanks for the quick reply. However, I'm convinced that the wii version of the game does not have that option. Can someone with this version please confirm?

Ya know, you're probably right about that, since the Wii only has Stereo audio output capabilities. I didn't think about that part.

One thing that's almost definitely happening here is upscaling. The Wii is only capable of outputting at 480p resolution (EDTV), while your HDTV probably has a native resolution of 720p (check the manual to be sure). That means that when it receives a signal in 480p, it has to then spend some processing time to upscale that signal into a 720p signal so it can output it properly. This is going to cause extra lag in the game.

Same thing with your 5.1 receiver. It's actually receiving a regular Stereo signal from the Wii, but then it has to process that signal into 5.1 output.

See if your TV has a "Game Mode" or something like that, and make sure you turn off all post-processing on your receiver. If it has a "Direct" mode or something similar, use that.

game mode is on. this really sucks. i'm considering just buying the ps3 version. it is really frustrating.
