View Full Version : Unreasonable Expectation? (Drum Problems)

Hey Everyone,
I purchased RB2 (Xbox 360) at the beginning of last month and had to RMA the drums out of the box since they wouldn't establish a wireless connection. I got the replacements and I had the problem where double hits would register on the yellow and blue pads (verified by obtaining 100% numerous times on the beat trainer, but "failing" the section). I not only returned those, but have since gotten two more sets after that (4 total), both of which have the same double hit problem. The latest set has the least severe problems since it only happens 5% of the time on the blue pad.
My question: is it unreasonable to expect a drum set that does not reset the multiplier all the time? I don't mind sending them in over and over again, but can I just expect to never get a set that works? Do a lot of people have this problem but it just doesn't bother them?
Alternatively, maybe I'm doing something wrong or there's something else wrong with my setup? If the problems aren't very widespread, I can't possibly be getting this unlucky.
Thanks for your input.

The odds of getting that many sets that double hit or cross talk is very low. Go into the freestyle mode under drum trainer, and play for a while. Specifically, play each drum with a variety of grips. My guess would be that your grip isn't just right, and you may be experiencing a double hit due to stick control. This is something that all drummers experience early but is easily worked out with some practice.
Other users who have had this problem in the past have also been helped by drum silencers. Those can reduce sensitivity just a little and help resolve stick control double hit problems.

Thanks for your response. I have the silencers, and I think they helped a little but not much. I will also try to change up the way I hold the sticks as you suggested. Hopefully I'll be able to work out a way of playing that doesn't produce the problem, but the thing is, there is definitely differences in the pads that make some more susceptible to the problem than others. For instance, on one of the sets, only the yellow pad gave me problems, as I could play the blue one constantly with no issues. On another, blue was the problem whereas yellow was fine.

I would also search around for the screwdriver mod. You can make small changes to the sensitivity by adjusting the tightness of the screw that holds the sensor mount.
Maybe shek will pop in here with a good tutorial on stick grip and stick control. I know that he has a good one for pedal technique.
