Hey I haven't got the game yet but I am getting it for christmas. I was just wondering what the difference is in mic skills (easy,medium,hard....etc). Like for example.....what is the difference between singing on easy, compared to singing on hard?

It seems to me that the only difference is that the harder the difficulty the more precise you have to sing the pitch. On easy, my two year old can yell into the mic and almost hit the right pitch. Almost. I can sing relatively well and expert is kicking my butt on some songs. Hope that helps.

I'm not sure if I'm correct on this but the game judges your singing more harshly in two aspects.
As the lyrics scroll across the screen there is a line that represents what pitch you should be singing at and when you sing an arrow goes up and down based on your pitch, which should be at level with that line. At easy difficulty this line is much thicker allowing you to sing about an entire half step sharp or flat (too high or low for the music illiterate) and it to still judge you as being in tune.
In addition to that there is a small empty circle that fills up in a clockwise pattern as you sing each phrase of the song correctly. This is judging your timing. This circle only fills up if you sing the correct words at the correct pitch or if during a talky part if you say the correct words at the same time as the original vocal track.
Fill the circle up completely and the Phrase is rated Awesome. Any less and you get judged either Strong, Okay, or at worst Messy.
In addition to the thinner pitch lines I've noticed that this circle fills up slower in the harder difficulties making your timing and ability to hold a note out for it's entire duration more important. (Don't forget to breathe during those rests!!!)
