View Full Version : Ugh RMA for USB Hub

Ok so one of the ports on my USB hub doesn't work (the little circuit wafer inside is actually loose in the slot), so I decided to RMA it... (This is for 360).

So I go the EA Support site for Rockband, same way I did for my guitar a few weeks ago, and it asks "Which item are you having an issue with?" and I pick Xbox 360 Universal Hub, naturally.

The next screen asks me this: Did you check all of the boxes that came with Rock Band? Some components are small and can be hidden behind cardboard flaps, plastic wrapping, or other shipping materials. Go through your boxes and make sure you haven't missed anything.

Did you find it? Yes No

If you hit Yes, it just says: Congratulations! Proceed with the setup of your equipment and you'll be ready to rock on! And that's it...You can go no further.

If you say No, it says: In order for us to assist you further with your request, please call us at 1 (650) yadda yadda yadda...

Huh, weird, no option for actually having a defective USB hub, only for not having one at ALL.

So I go back to the first question and this time pick Xbox 360 Guitar, then I pick "My guitar doesn't work properly" and it asks: "Plug your guitar directly into the console, bypassing the universal hub. Does you guitar work now?" So I say "Yes", and then it asks: "Make sure you have the AC Adapter plugged in to the hub and try your guitar again. Did that work?" And I say "No".

Ah finally!! It tells me: It sounds like you have a faulty universal hub. Let's get that replaced for you.

And we go through the whole RMA replacement blah blah blah, I pick Standard, and patiently await my empty box to send back my faulty USB Hub. It slightly concerned me that the auto-email I got said "Dear David, Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts regarding your Rock Band Guitar", but I chose to ignore it and wait for the box, thinking they couldn't possibly ignore the entire questionnaire I went through that determined it was my Hub that was bad and not my guitar!

Today the box arrives, and what is it? It's an empty box for, you guessed it, the 360 Strat.

So I guess I'll send them back this little tiny hub in that big huge box. Wonder what I should use for packing materials...

Kleenex, cause they'll be laughing so hard when they finally get the hub out of that box they'll be crying. :)

Why not just buy a new hub? They're like 10 dollars. :D

Because it came as part of my bundle, why should I have to pay for a new one?

I don't blame you for getting one from EA that works, but with something so cheap I would have bought one myself and saved some trouble.

Meh, not that much trouble. The other 3 ports in my hub work just fine, so I can still play 4-player no problem. That's why I did the Standard RMA instead of Express :)

Yeah so I just called EA, and talked to a very pleasant CSR named Nick. I told him what happened, he apologized several times, and then opened a new RMA for me for the correct item this time.

He said to just go ahead and throw away the empty guitar box I received. I think I'll send it back anyway just so they can open it and go WTF? :D

are they sending you a box to ship the USB hub back in?

Not sure, I'll see tomorrow. I think they're just sending me a new hub, cause the new RMA created by the EA guy Nick shows as 'Express' on their support website, even though I didn't have to give them a CC#.

UPS shows it'll get delivered tomorrow, so I'll let you know which it is :)
