View Full Version : Some ******* hijacked my brother's XBLA gamertag...
... And bought 10,000 MSPoints worth of crap with it. Like every Sonic game, some random games, and the (BARF) Death Magnetic DLC for GH.
But what can I expect from a thief?
10,000 MSP = $135, FYI.
We know the exact time the downloads happened, from where the purchases were made, and that this instance is not unique (http://news.cnet.com/2100-7349_3-6169060.html).
Has anyone here had this happen to them before? If so, how did you go about it to have it resolved?
He and I aren't expecting a refund. We just want the filthy **** to pay, by either permanent banning or by actual incarceration (this IS a crime).

At least you have SOMETHING to show for it.

No. Not really.
Besides, we don't have but 300 some MB of space left on the HDD.

Well, I cant say i have gone through the same thing,
But i have lost Team Fortess 2, Portal, Empire: Total War, Left 4 Dead, Killing Floor, Day of Defeat Source and Counter Strike Source to a hacker who found out my Steam login
And that counts to about $170 of lost gaming (not trying to one-up you btw)

Contact MS to get it resolved (1-800-469-9269). You'll need to be able to prove that you're the person on your account.
Also, if you haven't done it yet, change all of your passwords.

If you're looking for some tips on making it nigh un-crackable... link (http://www.irongeek.com/alt-numpad-ascii-key-combos-and-chart.html).
Edit: Never mind, special characters can't be used in Windows Live passwords.

You may be able to do a chargeback through the credit card if microsoft is no help. I had something similar with a card I had saved on amazon, they didn't want to help me so I called my card company and had my money back in a few days.

Well his Xbox, or router has to have an I.P. address. Traceable, and is tagged with the user info, unless he used a shell of some sort. ( Highly unlikely) But if it is registered to another Xbox, Microsoft will be able to track it.

Being that the DLC is registered to another console (as it quite clearly states in the download history on my bro's XBLA), I'm guessing that MS will know exactly who it is (combined with the exact times that the downloads occurred and the location it came from, which we know).

This is exactly right. If MS won't handle it over the phone, go directly to your credit card company and explain the situation.
I missed that post. I'll pass that along. Thanks, Transbrak. :D

Any idea on how they got your account?
Any chance you typed your info in on a 3rd party site that was fishing?
Sorry to hear man.
