View Full Version : Why does it always have to be love/hate?

Now i read all these forums and stuff on my days off, and im always wondering, why do you HAVE to hate one, and love the other? In more specific terms well use Guitar Hero III and Rock Band. Theres only 2 sides, we hate Rock Band and Love GHIII, or we love Rock band and hate GHIII. Its a constant game of who's better, and an endless battle. Now from what i've seen Harmonix is above all a more down to earth, REAL company. When you read their posts it seems like their real people, not some cooperate CEO trying to convince you to buy more crap for their games, or sell future games. Their here to talk. BUT, as a company who makes games, why not respect other game developers who do the same as you do? Now im not saying you have to advertise for them, but why let all the "GHIII SUCKS" threads exist? Sure they're people's opinions, and they have the right to express them, but the immaturity of the quantity of threads is ridiculous. I'M NOT trying to upset anyone with this, and i know GHIII fans do the same, but just because one group does to you, doesnt mean you should do onto them. Remember (and not to insult the GH fan base) that alot of GH fans) are younger members, as Rockband is a lot more professional, and above all more expensive. I as a sole opinion, enjoy both games. I like the more individual play of GH, but quite enjoy the group gaming of Rock Band. I don;t even consider them competitors on the sort. They both have their individual qualitys and advantages, which makes them both the top 2 in my gaming collection (Halo 3 and COD4 are the next top). I really enjoy this forum community, and hope to see it prosper in the future, but id like to see a more "peaceful" relation between the 2 games. Remember that its not Activision (which i admit seems to be extrememly greedy these days) But also Neversoft, which from my experience is a great game developer also. Judging them based on Activision would be like blaming Harmonix for EAs consumer tactics. I dont know really, just figured i would comment on it, please dont hate me for it. It wasn't meant to be offensive
P.S some other examples of this are the iPod/Zune, 360/PS3/Wii, Windows/OSX (But windows is just better :)...j/k)

I like both games, but after playing Rock Band its just hard for me to play GH3. Its just an all around more pleasant game after comparing the two. Plus I always play with friends and we used to do like 2 or 3 rotations with Guitar Hero so now Rock Band we can all play more. GH3 is fun, but I have never had as much fun with GH3 as I had rocking out with my buds. Like Harmonix says its like an entire new experience.
I still like GH3. I love being able to beat Through The Fire And Flames it just makes you feel like a badass with the loose tapping.

Well...I for one do not have a problem with GHIII but here's some things to look at:
1) The ratio of Master Tracks in RB compared to GH is greater for RB but there are 71 Tracks on the Game disk for GHIII (Cite Wikipedia)
2) Playstation 3 users have something against Activision because while our GH controllers work for RB, the PS3 ones do not....I do not know about PS2 but I am assuming the GH1 and GH2 controllers probably work.
3) A lot of people just like playing Guitar and when playing alone, GH beats RB because of Difficulty
4) GHIII has Cliffs of Dover...But Rock Band has Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld....I love Both

Let's Put it this way, what guitarists in Rock Band wouldn't want to see a GHIII master tracks pack released for Rock Band, or an RB master track pack released for GHIII. It would just be so much better together...

You wanna know why?
You really wanna know?
Really? Can you handle it? Okay, here goes.
ROCK BAND RULES GUITAR HERO 3 SUCKS YEAAAAHH!! :D
In all honesty, I think this battle can be described as "Rock Band was made with love and GHIII is the spawn of greed and agressive competetiveness." At least that's how I see things :)
And on the subject of random youtube vids..

If you have a PS3 and have played both games, you'd understand where the hate comes from.
Myself, I have a particular reason to dislike the game: I bought it SOLELY because I heard the compatibility reports. I knew going in that it had a track list I didn't like nearly as much as the RB list, but I was jonesin' for something new to play before RB came out, and since it was supposed to be compatible, well, I gave it a shot.
I really wish I hadn't.
Not only is there the incompatibility issue between controllers, but the PS3 GHIII controller barely qualifies as compatible with its own game. Even with the purported larger window for hitting notes, it seems nearly impossible to calibrate the Les Paul to work consistently with the game.
The online game worked for about a week. Since then, I've had no luck getting matches even with people that have a very strong signal--I get either an instantaneous message saying I can't connect or 5-15 seconds of "connecting..." before it tells me it can't connect.
Factor in that the charts seem to be difficult just for the sake of being difficult--sacrificing a lot of the musicality in the process--and I really haven't enjoyed playing the game much at all.
For some people, this would be a disappointment. For me, since I like very, very few songs in the game (maybe 20 out of 71, many of which are either in Rock Band or were available as DLC), it's a colossal waste of money. I haven't even put it in my PS3 since Rock Band arrived, and the only song I miss playing is Cliffs of Dover.

I don't HATE GH3, but I really think its mediocre compared to GH and GH2. I rented it, played until Rock Band came out and sent it back. I hated a very large chunk of the songs in the middle, and usually felt like once I passed a song there was no reason to ever play it again because many of the notecharts felt nothing like I was doing anything remotely close to playing the song on a guitar. Furthermore they got rid of my favorite characters and made some of the others look ******ed and the boss battles were not fun. Lastly the game misses all the subtle touches and in jokes that only real musicians and music geeks get... and those have not surprisingly all found their way to Rock Band.
In short, even though Guitar Hero bears the name it feels like a sub par imitation of a great franchise while Rock Band feels like the real deal.
