I got my replacement PS3 Guitar today and on the box it has a green sticker saying PS2 Compatible. Now, I'm not going to be home to test this for hours so I figured I ask about my theory on here...
Would this mean that I am able to play my Guitar Hero 1 and 2 with it on a PS2? If so, anyone know if it works playing GH1 and GH2 on a PS3? (I have a 60GB so it does play PS2 games, unlike the poor 40GB model :()
If I had to guess, I would say it doesn't work with GH1 or 2 at all. I'm thinking all this means is that the guitar works with the PS2 Rock Band as well as the PS3 version.
I'm going to go home and test this when I get off work anyway so I'll give a progress report when I do...

Here's the short version. Yes, all PS3 hardware is compatible with the PS2 for Rock Band. When you receive a "Rock Band Special Edition" for PS2, all the hardware is actually PS3 hardware. It says it on the individual boxes and has the "PS2 Compatible" sticker.
Next, I tried playing GH1, GH2, and GH:80's with the strat last night. No luck. I can't find any way to make the games see a USB peripheral. If anyone finds a solution to this I will be thrilled.
