View Full Version : put in a karaoke mode for vocals

Basically an option for vocals that doesn't track pitch or keep score or care if you hit the notes, it just lets you sing along for fun with the rest of the band.

That way people can "get into it" and not have to worry about failing. Because I've learned over the last few weeks, especially after a few drinks, that people really want to get into the song they're singing and just belt it out, but that usually means you're going to fail most everything, even on easy. Don't even make it an option for BWT, just quick play.

Tried practice mode? I'm not sure if you can do that for vocals or not (I've never tried)

It's not like you have to be a virtuoso to sing Easy. Hell, I've never even tried Easy but I'm assuming that a deaf-mute would be able to pass it. ;)

...........or you could just do karaoke with your drunk friends?

Party games are cool and all, but PS3 + drunk folks = trouble.

You can, but you wouldn't be able to sing while friends play, then.

And I gotta agree with Parodygm: anyone who fails out on Easy should have the mic taken away.

I fail on easy, *sigh

You guys are missing the point. it's not a matter of being able to pass the songs on easy. ANYONE can pass those songs on easy if they're not scared of hearing their own voice, but that doesn't mean it's as fun as it could be. I can pass Roxanne on hard using my bad falsetto, but that doesn't make it fun. I'm just doing what I have to do to get through the song. A mode that didn't track pitch or keep score for vocals would let people belt out a song "their way", rather than forcing them to uncomfortably mimic the singers real vocals just to get through the song. Again, this would just be a "quick play" type option and not something you could use in BWT. Basically just something to make that part of the game more casual and more "party friendly".

Turn in your mic.

This has been one of my primary objections to the Karaoke Revolution style of game. This and the fact that you can't set the pitch--a standard feature in ALL "real" karaoke set-ups.

Still, you should be able to pass a song on Easy, even singing it your own way--drop an octave to sing Roxanne and just make sure you're hitting the notes at that lower pitch.

A bunch of us failed Can't Stand Losing You (Police DLC) because the vocal track follows Sting's lower-pitched melody line rather than the falsetto line. The lower-pitched line always sounded like the harmony part to me, so I didn't sing it.

most every party game is made better by alcohol, but maybe you run with a crowd that can't hold their drink.

yah, I can and the people who play these games with me regularly can, but we've had a few rock band parties already and we get some people who aren't gamers and don't really get the concept of dropping an octave to get through the song. they just want to get up there and do their thing and that doesn't really fly, even on easy.

Again, it was just an idea that popped in my head over last weekends Rock Band mania that I thought would add a little something extra to the game for the more casual than casual crowd.

It's called practice mode.

If you want others to play with you, just unplug the mic and sing along while everybody else is playing. I promise that with the mic unplugged, the game won't track your pitch or care if you hit notes. In fact, you'll just be singing along for fun with the rest of the band. Problem solved.

unless ur having a party with only 4 people, there are gonna be people sitting out during play anyways, so either just designate a singer (who can AT LEAST beat songs on easy so you don't have to worry about failing) or just have fun and pass the mic around even if nobody can sing at all.. having horrible singers around is what makes the game hilarious.. plus you'll all be drunk so the fails probably won't bother you too much

Through much research...singing is really fun under the influence...and not so much fun sober.

maybe its because when drunk, i feel like i sound better than i do...so i get into it more.

in summary: Drunk Rock Band > Sober Rock Band

I agree whole-heartedly about adding this option.

People saying just unplug the mic and sing along with the song are forgetting that their would be no words for the people to sing along with and that is where the majority of the problems comes in the fact that the majority of my friends dont listen to a lot of rock music so they don't know these songs.

That is were they can then have trouble singing the songs because they dont know it at all. The melody, the pitch, the lyrics, nothing.

And I can't beat GGaHT on expert guitar and doubt I ever could, but that doesn't mean I am so dense as to assume that no one can just because I can't. So why do you people who have no problem with singing assume that it is impossible for people to fail on easy? I have had people stone-sober attempt easy songs on easy and still fail. If you dont have a good voice and dont know the song at all, it shouldn't be that surprising that it can happen.

This would just be an option for quickplay that would have no bearing on leaderboards. They could just add an extra difficulty when you are selecting vocal difficulty above easy that would be "karaoke". It would be awesome(not that I would use it as I have gotten through all the songs on medium, but none of my friends will attempt vocals after a few failed easy songs the first time I had people over to play).

This is, by far, my biggest complaint with this game. PLEASE take out fail, for vocals, in quickplay mode.

I hope someone discovers a cheat for this SOON.
