View Full Version : Rock Band should learn...

...what songs you like to play.

Because Metallica just has horrible songs...
My "band mates" all moan and grumble when any Metallica song comes up on a set list.

Don't get me wrong...
I Get By...Dead on Arrival....and others we don't care for either...

At any rate...once there is a good amount of songs in Rock Band (it's getting there) I think there should be an option or feature for random songs to disable certain songs...play certain songs more...or send electronic hate mail directly to Metallica.

Everyone's opinions, including that of your fans, are unique. Part of the game is to play all those songs, just plain and simple. If you want to do the "choose your own adventure" you can quick play, or in BWT just make sure you do the "make a set" option every time. Otherwise you can choose the venue/set you want to do, and if you do a random set you can take your chances.

Granted, every time "Green hills and.." my wife comes up with a new end for the name of the song, because her fingers are sore by the time we're done playing it....

A random set list is a random set list. A random subset is not random.

And the Metallica songs are the best in the game!

When the game first came out, people were saying that it did compile some sort of favorites list: when playing BWT with only a few songs unlocked, those few songs come up in the mystery set lists.

Later, when more songs are unlocked, those same few songs still seem to come up in mystery set lists.

Some people thought this might be the game tracking which songs you like to play the most (combined with the star score you got on them, or something), but it was never confirmed or denied by HMX.

I think it was just a perpetuation of an irritating coincidence, myself, even though I had to play Say It Ain't So about eleven times within the first 12 hours that I had the game.

There is one Metallica song in the game...unless you added more via DLC, in which case that's your own fault if you don't like Metallica. Personally, I think "Enter Sandman" is one of the most fun songs to play in Rock Band.

You're right...

...

Damn me! >_<

I should have downloaded their DLC on Napster...
That would have made Metallica happy.

Well now that that problem is solved...
...
They just need an option to unload Metallica songs.
Or...an option for Metallica to pay me $1.99 to play their songs...

I do like the random set lists though...
It's nice to be "forced" to play certain songs...
If we got to choose all the time...we'd play all the short easy ones for easy stars.

Personally, I think "Enter Sandman" is one of the worst songs of all time.

Kidding!

But I'm not into Metallica. Enter Sandman is annoying to me because it was insanely popular when I was in Jr high. They even played it at the end of the year dance.

I believe all DLC should have the option to disable in random setlists. I think that would good for Harmonix's pocket book too because people will probably download more stuff if they know they won't be forced to play it if they don't want to. Since DLC is optional, I don't see this as a problem, but I do see DLC available for random sets as a great addition.... so I don't want them to get rid of that functionality all together. I think the ability to disable base songs would be a good addition too, as long as there's some restrictions. For example, only in random set lists and maybe a limit of 5 of the 58.

You could just delete the Metallica downloadable content from your Hard Drive, then it wouldn't show up anymore in game.

If you ever wanted to play it again at a later date, all you would have to do is re-download it at no charge.

That would eliminate 3 of the 4 Metallica songs for you at any rate.

To do that on the PS3, you'd actually have to delete the RB assets file from your HD (since that appears to be where DLC goes) and then re-install RB and re-download all the songs but the ones you want to get rid of.

It's doable, but it's kind of a pain.

Yes, I could, but you're missing the main point...
I don't want Metallica to make any more music or be a band anymore.

Heh heh, I kid, I kid.

So what I'm getting out of this thread is:

"Hay guyz, I hate teh Metallica tracks, 3 of which I paid for voluntarily, I shouldn't be playing these songs!1"

Palm to the face.

Granted, I can't stand Metallica as a band, but I think they are hilarious, and their songs are extremely fun to play. Nothing beats singing like Hetfield.

EEEEEEXIIIIT, LIGHTAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, eeeentttterrrrrr NEEAAAYAYAHHHTAHHHH, TAAAHAAAYYKEEEE MY HANDDAAHHHHHHH, WRRRROFFFF TO NEVA NEVA LAHAHAHANDAHHHH

K perhaps a bit of an exaggeration, but you get the idea.

Maybe it's just my lack of ambition due to the upcoming holidays, but I can not bring myself to understand what you are trying to say here...

Thanks to this thread, I've been singing the chorus of Enter Sandman in my head for the last 45 minutes.

Thanks a LOT, spineraptor.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I am saying. :/

But I do like the idea of turning off downloadable content to some extent.

But it does get me thinking now.

What if you could choose a genre to play and play nothing but songs of that genre?
I know it doesn't make much sense to do that now, since the songs right now are all of such a wide variety and there aren't good chunks of genres in the game right now, but over a few years or so we might have a good collection of songs ranging from The Beatles, (I wish) to Queen, to Steam Powered Giraffe (Scary World (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBEhWSz_LlA)).

Metallica led that whole "Napster is bad" thing years ago.
I was joking with downloading Rock Band DLC on Napster...
...You remember when Napster let you download songs for free at no charge and it wasn't illegal right?
Yeah...I don't remember either!
They've always been a pay-to-download site. ¬_¬

There was another thread like this almost a month ago. Basically, what the multi-page concensus was is this:

It would be nice to have an option to disable songs, but there should be a minimum amount to keep enabled, like 40 or so, so that people can't just play the same 3 or 4 songs they are goodat to rack up money. It would also be a nice bonus to those with DLC songs to fine tune their library.

Now, will it happen? Doubt it. There are more important thngs, like getting DLC out and satisfying those with broken gear. Maybe in '09...

Yeah I had to replace my out of the box guitar due to strum problems...
And then I had to replace my replacement guitar because of a faulty whammy bar and tilt sensor...
The 3rd guitar works great though...
I love it.

I am just happy I have something to look forward to at the end of the week.
New songs...even if I don't care for them.

Ah, I didn't realize it was such a pain on the PS3...

On the 360 you'd just have to delete the content from the hard drive and then boot the game.

You actually have to "install" Rock Band on the PS3?!? Craziness...

Easiest word to use: the first time you run RB on the PS3, it installs a relatively small file of assets to the HDD. It doesn't take a lot of time, but if you want to get rid of some of your DLC, it's a necessary intermediate step that you have to do before re-downloading/installing the DLC.

The "craziness" is that the RB DLC chooses to install itself as part of that asset file instead of appearing somewhere separate. It fits right in with the uncopyable save file craziness, though.

No, it copies some data to the drive the first time you run it, but you don't have to "install" it. But you will have to re-download the song packs you want.

But I guess I could qualify for "emo" since I sit in my bathtub and cry while play "Creep" in Solo BWT mode over and over again.

My band likes some of the songs you hate, like I Get By, love that song. Metallica's Sandman is hard but it's a challenge, those grumbles turn to joy when you finally can play them without dying. Green Grass and High Tides is an example of this, if anyone picked it on purpose I proceeded to gut them like a trout. After playing it a few times on Solo tour I could play it and it was really rewarding to know that I'd improved. Next time we played, I didn't tell anyone that I had played it a few times and gotten the hang of it, we started it up, got it as a mystery song and aced it. You get to boast like a peacock after that, anyways, that's one benefit to those annoyingly tough songs and other people don't share your tastes, I think Rock Band did just fine with the setlist. GH3's looked better on paper but in actuality I liked playing RB's songs more even tho I hadn't ever listened to many of them, esp. after you look at the DLC you realize that RB did just fine with the set lists.

Agreed.
And because of Rock Band I now know a lot more songs than I did prior to playing it.
Songs I would never ever ever put on my ipod/mp3 player....
But...I know them backwards and forwards like no ones business...more so than some songs on my mp3 player...whether I wanted to in the first place or not.
