I bought RB on release day, but it is a xmas present and has not been opened. Has anything changed with newer production hardware since release?

Should I just keep my original game, or would it be worthwhile to try to buy a newer production box and return the "old" one?

I bought a "release day" RB set and had the strummer break on my guitar within 3 days.

Last week, I picked up a RB bundle for a buddy of mine. His strummer just started malfunctioning as of yesterday. We've both got 360 version. Just send it in if you get bad instruments. My new replacement guitar seems to work now, although the overdrive tilt is a bit more iffy.

My release day guitar (box packaged 10/23 I believe) was flaking out, but the new one is better. I agree with DCfell - see how the one you have is, and if you have problems do the RMA. The process is excessively fast if you can put down a cc for guarentee on it (I got mine in under 3 days). I'd say there is no guarentee that the new boxes on the shelves today have any different hardware in them from what was out on release day. That is unless someone form Harmonix can tell us otherwise on it.

Remember - not everyone had problems with their release day guitars. So you never know what hardware you really have. And with the protection that EA is offering for folks with issues, it shouldn't be a problem if an issue does arise for you to get it taken care of.

Thanks for the replies. I'll keep what I have.

Also, what is the hardware warranty? Mine will technically be ~30 days old before it is opened.

It's 60 days, but most manufacturers will flex that when they know it's likely something was bought as a gift.

Ya know, the $7 2 yr extended Kmart warranty that I turned down *might* have been a good investment on this.

Speaking of Returns.... what's that URL for replacements anyway? I lost that paper that had the URL on it...

My release day drums work perfectly. The guitar died after maybe 3 hours. EA said try blowing air between the strummer and body. That worked but the strum kept failing and I'd have to do it again and again. Eventually I was doing it after every song. That's ridiculous, so I RMA'd it. In the meantime, I opened it up and found that the plastic the strummer is made of was disintegrating and coating the contacts in white dust. I put a piece of tape over the strummer where it rubs against another part, and that fixed it permanently. I've used it for hours and hours and hours since then with no problems.

So, back to your situation. I doubt you'll be able to swap it with another package as they seem to be in low supply and high demand. However, around December, most stores change their warranty so that it's 30 days after xmas or something. Plus EA knows they have problems with the equip and will replace it if need be. And lastly, if it does break and you can't replace it for some reason, you can probably fix it yourself pretty easily using my tip or one of the many others out there on the internet.

...and I've got a GH3 wireless Les Paul and a GH2 wired Xplorer, so I can live without a guitar for a few days IF there is a problem.

...welll....my guitar quit strumming down on day 2.

I filled out a RMA, got a tracking number immediately 3 days ago, but it has not shipped.

Drums seem to work fine.

I was in your same position and my strat's overdrive tilt didn't work. I got my replacement in 3 days, my les paul did the job just fine. It actually isn't that big of a deal with the customer service being so awesome (at least for me).

I bought from Walmart and was told there was no extended warranty available. I am going back today to another store to see if I can get someone to sell me a warranty, if not, I'll buy a new one and for sure get the warranty and return the old one.

BUT... I have the PS2 version and you can't find them. So even if I did get the warranty, how could Walmart exchange it for me when they don't even have a PS2 bundle to sell??

That is exactly what I have been playing RB with and they work great (except you don't get the option to use guitar effects on the solos). I'll not get the RB Strats until there is a confirmed product upgrade.

Just an FYI on newer vs. older equipment:

I have an October 13th package. The only issue I had was the downstrum occasionally not registering. I simply removed the back cover and narrowed the space between the contact points by re-inforcing it with a piece of folded paper, as has been outlined in many previous posts. Very little effort, and you only risk damaging the controller if you decide to stomp on it or shovel dirt inside while the cover is off. It was no different for me than the maintainence I have to perform on my real guitars, except this was a lot easier. 5 minute fix, and 4 of the minutes are spent taking out all the screws. Much better than RMA for three weeks.
