I was wondering, when full albums do start being released how will they be played? Will there be a set list feature where you get to play the entire album in one set? Or will they simply be each separate song from the album?
I would personally like to see the option for both, because playing an album as a whole without breaks sounds like a great experience to be had. (Especially with "Who's Next")

I second. I'd like an option to play the whole album as a set, and also have the individual songs show up in random set lists. I know you can do band quickplay, but I don't want to have to stop in between songs to figure out what's next, find it, and load it up.

that's a good question
i wonder how the random set lists will also handle that.. imagine if somebody bought the 18 grateful dead tracks and went into a random set list..

I like the Full Album Setlist idea, but I think you should have the ability to disable some songs from coming up randomly. Obviously, it depends on the album, but if they made Tool's Aenima (for example) a full-album DLC, you'd have a bunch of little instrumental fill tracks that seem more about setting/changing the mood than being solid, stand-alone songs. I'd be kind of annoyed/disappointed to have them come up in random setlists.

True. I'm of the opinion that all DLC should be disable-able from random sets, since it's all optional anyways. And I think this would benefit HMX too since people will likely buy more DLC if they know they can disable it if they don't like it. I know I would. I love the fact that DLC comes up in random sets though.

That's very true, so I think they either need an option to turn off certain DLC in random set lists or they need to be careful of which albums they make available in their entirety. Or maybe Harmonix themselves could code certain tracks in a way that they would only show up if you specifically picked them or played the full album set.

i agree, i like the fact that DLC comes up in random set lists, because it makes them feel like they're wanted and part of the game and not some neglected child that nobody cares for
disable/able feature would be a good idea, but i guess harmonix figures that if somebody doesn't want the song, they won't spend the money on it

Isn't there a Create A Setlist that is 10 or 12 songs?
I thought I saw that in one of the venues. You could use that to play a whole album.

This is something that has been worrying me a bit since they announced the grateful dead pack. I know personally I want to buy all 18 songs, pick an order for them and play them as one show. Using the BWT mode however as it is now, you could do a maximum of 5 (5 song make your own setlist) and then have to go back to the loading screen and pick the next 5. I really hope it doesnt work like that. I think a good rememdy for this would be to allow you to play "Make Your Own Setlist" with however many tracks you want at whatever venue you want. I was a little dissapointed that you couldn't do that right out of the box.
P.S. God forbid they ever release Dark Side of the Moon and you need to go back to loading screens 1/2 way through. :) I might just jump of a bridge. (A figurative bridge mind you.)

I've been given specific instructions from the wife not to download any more tunes unless they appear to be easy in difficulty. Full albums will make it more tricky. Every random setlist will have at least one Metalica song in it.

true, but i'm pretty sure every track available on full albums can still be downloaded individually, so you can pick and choose which ones you want if you don't want the full album

Why would they buy songs that they don't like? You can just buy the songs you want out of a pack instead of the whole pack also...

Even if you didn't have to do that, can you imagine trying to play that album as recorded? You get a break before Money...and that's it. The logical way to release the album is as two tracks and drive everyone crazy as they wait for their next bit to come up.

Actually, I would rather they keep doing more singles than a whole album. I guess its pretty much hit or miss. If I don't like or know the band, it makes it that much longer for the songs that I want to show up. If they do a full album of one of my favorite bands, its jackpot, but otherwise, its gonna be a long wait. I just hope they still keep their release schedule, but release a whole album at the same time rather than 3 songs at a time and spend over a month on just one album. Sorry, but not a Grateful Dead fan. I hope we don't have to wait 1-2 months for HMX to finish releasing Grateful Dead songs before any other DLC come out. I just hope the entire album is released at the same time.

But the tricky part comes when you want the whole album so you can play the whole album as an album, but don't necessarily want every track of the album to come as a single song in a random setlist.
For example, let's say they did a full album DLC for Radiohead's Kid A. I would love to play all of Kid A from start to finish, but I wouldn't really be that interested in playing individual tracks apart from Everything in Its Right Place, The National Anthem, Optimistic, and Idiotheque. Most of the other tracks are very experimental and work nicely as part of the album, but not so much as individual songs.

I think the most logical thing to do for a full album is to release it in it's entirety all at one time. Splitting an album up into separate release periods would be a major mistake and ruin the experience of getting a full album.

every track is available individually as well though i believe, so it's not either buy the whole thing or buy nothing..
DesiredFX - thats very true as well.. having the option to play the whole album the whole way through would be a great idea.. i was just saying though that if somebody doesn't necessarily want an entire album, and just wanted say 2-3 songs from an album, they can still download individual tracks and not have to buy the whole album just for one song.. but you bring up a good point about the tracks complimenting eachother.. that is definitely something to consider when picking certain tracks out from full albums

I have no issue with them being available as separate downloads as well. They just have to all appear for download at the same time so that if you want the full album you aren't waiting weeks for it to be fully released and so for those who don't like the piece of DLC aren't stuck with a single band that they may dislike for an entire month.

ohh ok i gotcha..
yeah i would HOPE they'd release each album in its entirety at once.. i'm sure they will.. it's only logical.. plus harmonix said they'd release "at least" 3 new tracks a week, there's probably no limit on how many they can release though

You may like a song, but after downloading the pack, perhaps really dislike some aspect of it. For example a cover version could be a poor representation of the song, the song could not be enjoyable to play for some reason, could be a bad mix, and so on.
I experienced it with the QotSA pack. I thought "hey, I like what I've heard of them, and I want more songs to play." So I downloaded it. But man, that Sick, Sick, Sick song is lame to play and the mix is bad (can't hear the freakin' vocals). That experience has kinda shied me away from buying packs without really checking the songs out thoroughly, listening to each instrument and such. Of course with cover versions, you don't really know if it's going to be good or not. In my opinion, the covers have proven to be really good for the most part, except the singing on Tom Sawyer.

Or if we want to be really crazy, we could push for HMX to release The Mars' Volta's "Frances the Mute" as a DLC album. It's technically only 5 songs, but the last song, Cassandra Gemini, is about 33 minutes long. :D
OK, it's a longshot, but I'd still love to see it.

I am probably in the minority, but a lot of the songs that are on the RB disc, I'm not that fond of. (I like about 3 or 4 of them) So, I have been ONLY buying DLC songs that I really like and love having them appear in Random Set lists.

Ohhhh, yeah! That would be awesome. Actually, I think it's realistic for them to release trimmed-down versions of the songs from Frances the Mute. I mean, they already mess with endings and such to make them more Rock Band friendly.

okay i don't know if this has been brought up anywhere and answered, but does anybody have any idea what the space limit is on the Xbox Live Marketplace or PSN for Rock Band Downloads?
I mean do they honestly have space for say 200 songs to be kept on the Marketplace or are they eventually going to have to stop offering older DLC to make way for the new stuff?
Just wondering.
