if ea can do all these exchanges clearly they have a steady supply coming from who ever makes them, why dont they do a good holiday deed and sell them?
maybe even refurbish the broken ones and sell those since they probably have a ton of them

Sell other people's broken guitars? Great. Let's upset more people this holiday season.

I don't know exactly how it works, but I know a lot goes into a product before it hits the market. The release of individual peripherals could have been held back for any reason, and instead of waiting for the individual peripherals HMX decided to get the game out ASAP. It has more to do than just having the product ready. When I was working for Tim Hortons, a member of the upper management told me it took them two years to go through the development process to get their breakfast sandwich ready for market. Two fricken years for a sandwich! I don't know why HMX hasn't dealt with the issues with the game, but we just can't know what's going on behind those closed doors save for what they release to the public. All we can really do is voice our opinions and concerns and hope for the best.

I design printed circuit boards, and for boards that I know are going to be in demand, I build enough to fill the initial demand, and then hold off a bit to decide how many more I'm going to need to make later. I could TRY to forsee extra demand and order extra components ahead of time (and bare boards), but it's pointless unless you order the right amount. Underordering means a shortage, and overordering means your overall cost per unit goes up. It's much better to see how the initial reaction shakes out and then look to fill the subsequent demand later, although certainly as SOON as possible.
Perhaps that's what Harmonix is doing here. ???

Think about it. I think they would have liked to have got the individual items on sale earlier, but look at it this way. Within a couple of days of release of the game (maybe even on the day of release) they start getting calls about broken guitars, broken bass pedals, and broken drum heads. They need to replace these. What do they replace them with? The stock of instruments they had. This continues to happen so they decide to hold off on selling the individual items until they can produce enough to supply full bundles AND sell individual items AND replace defective ones.
What would make you more angry - not being able to buy a second guitar, or EA/HMX not being able to replace your only broken one because they'd sold them all to other people??!!
