Try just hitting the 2 reds and the bass.

Assuming you're right handed, just keep hitting the right hand and bass every down beat, and the two snar hits should be done with your left hand. This is where some rebound on the drum set would be nice, but we don't have that luxury. Just make sure you're holding the stick nice and loose (just holding it with your thumb and index about 1/3 from the butt of the stick) in your hand and use mostly fingers with a little wrist for each stroke.

That two snare hit combo is actually done horribly in the game. If you watch how it's really done, the cymbal hits alternate on either side of the snare, so he's able to constantly alternate hands. Left right snare, left crash, right left snare, right crash.

But on expert, they keep the snare on the far left, and every crash is on the right. This means you either need to do an extreme crossover for the blues, or you need to rebound the snare with the left hand. All they had to do was have the snare be yellow or blue this one time, and it could have been a much more accurate representation of the song. :\

Try just hitting the 2 reds and the bass.

I did it by hitting 1 red and the green + orange. ( 1 snare then the bass + crash combo ) sure you miss a ton of notes , but you can easily 5 star the song even after screwing that intro up.

I play the drums IRL, and for me, this part was tricky. I cannot "not" play it like it was in the song. I want to keep switching sides, and I would fail miserably.

What I ended up doing was just crossing over for the whole part.

I would play the beginning part with the normal left hand red, and right hand blue set up.

Once the R, R, G+Bass, R, R, B+Bass started, I would just switch my right hand to red, and move my left hand back and forth from green to blue on the bass hit.

It sounds weird, but once I tried it, it felt right, and a few times in practice mode, and I got the timing down.

Now, I would miss a few notes switching over, but it was worth it.

I dont know how non drummers are ever going to beat this game on expert. Expert drums, esp the last two tiers, are murderous.

God, I'm glad they had vocals in RB. I'm far too dyslexic to pull that off; it's just scary to look at.

Argh. It's crazy how he's holding the sticks. (in that video)

Sometimes the line between reality and video games is pretty thick.

This song is MUCH easier in Expert mode than Hard mode.

The opening is all triplets and they are fun to play and fairly diffacult to be accurate. If you get off beat you are totally screwed.

Anyway I assume that your biggest problem is the two notes on Red and the alternating notes on Blue and Green.

My sticking is RLLRLLRLLRLLRLL. So my left hand stays on Red and double sticks the two notes. My Right hand goes back and forth on Blue and Green. The easy part is that the bass pedal is all down beats that coorespond with right hand hits.

That video is actaully how I complete the song. And yes the way he holds the sticks drives me up a wall. The striking of the pad is into the pad instead of out of the pad. Almost like a buzz roll type technique. Arggg

I'm going to have to try this song later. I haven't been playing much drums at all, as... I finally made the jump from Hard to Expert on the guitar so i've been rocking that.

Drums I wasn't so much worried about, I've played for a long time IRL so it SHOULD just be a matter of learning to process the in-game note chart and play it.

I did notice that Vasoline is ridiculous on hard, not the beat.. but the note chart. Failed that one three times.

I'll go play Foreplay/Longtime on hard and expert later and see what I think.

It's not the note chart that is hard in Vasoline, it's what the guy is playing.

I admit, I know the song, and even I was suprised how tough it was.

Really though, once you get the snares down, it's not so bad. Learn the hi-hat, snare line

then, add in the bass beats.

the only bass part that through me off was the back to back bass hits in the middle.

Once you "get it" though, it feels right. It's a tough song, but I don't think they made it extra hard, they just charted what he's playing

Firstly, I finished expert drum career without having ever touched a drum kit (other than to be like LOL LOOK AT ME I PLAY TEH DRUMZ).

Secondly, maybe I'm the exception, but the red/red/green+bass part isn't what I lose my life on, it's generally the semi-rolls. If you just make sure your your bass hits are at steady intervals, you can focus on the reds. Go a little faster than you might think you have to, you can easily get tired with the speed that you have to do that, so it'll compensate for your arm getting tired.
