I totally agree! ROCK BAND: Now Teaching You to Sing in Japanese! I'm all for it, especially if they include some Maximum the Hormone. :)
Koi no megalover (http://youtube.com/watch?v=tmQ_HkG6qP0) and Buiikikaesu (http://youtube.com/watch?v=eZJ6cvauLWQ) would be awesome.

Lol, I was wondering when someone would mentioned J-Rock bands. I'm more familiar with J-Pop, but this would be neat. Plus I'm pretty good at singing in Japanese.

Needs X Japan, obviously. That's a priority. They were one of the most important bands when you're diving into VK history.
Luna Sea is up there too...
Girugamesh, Glay, Rentrer en Soi, Gazette, Miyavi, Dir en grey (Macabre era, though), Metis Gretel, Merry, Kuroyume, exist trace, Ancafe, anything from Hide's solo work, even LM.C would be interesting in the context of Rock Band just because it's such a weird... "Band." Even any of those old Matina Bands, or like, Aliene Ma'riage/Deflina Ma'riage.
Also don't forget bands like BORIS, and Bleach03.
Honestly though I don't imagine us getting any of these bands. :(

Yeah, there should be some kind of Anime Theme Song Pack, containing the following:
ANIME THEME PACK:
.) Long Shot Party - "Distance" (Naruto Shippuden)

Haruka Kanata is very good, but After Dark is just amazing. The video is beautiful and the song is awesome.

Including some J-rock or even J-pop would be an excellent way to pay homage to the country that really birthed the rythm genre.
What better way to show our thanks than by rocking out to their tunes and mangling their lyrics? (sake not included)

Now dont get me wrong, I am a complete whore for J-rock and what have you myself, but the main problem I see with getting some on rockband is the vocals. Sure its not such a big deal for someone who is interested in japanese culture, odds are are they know some japanese or at least the foundations of how to start decifering it, but are there going to be enough people willing to give it a shot? Songs in any other language are gonna be a bit of a risk, since it puts a lot of strain on the vocalist, but heres hoping that we still get a song or pack. Personally I would love to see at least a three song pack from The Pillows, I would give my pinkies for it and learn to play with three fret fingers, so awesome the rock. :P
Appologies around if someone else mentioned this already, its late, I should be in bed, I am in fact... not.

I think vocals would actually work very well. Japanese is pretty easy to pronounce when it's written in English. In fact, this would be a great opportunity to learn some of my favorite Japanese songs. Here's some picks:
Minna no Peace - Afromania
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/A1c0mNvmxgE&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/A1c0mNvmxgE&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>
Sekai wa Sore o Ai to Yobundaze by Sambomaster would be beast on drums. In fact, I know it would be beast on drums, because it's in Drummania, and I've played it, and it is in fact beast. But Rock Band is better.
<object width="425" height="355"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Tfg31FTFdgA&rel=1"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Tfg31FTFdgA&rel=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="355"></embed></object>

"The Pillows" would be my top choice seeing as they're always coming out with new material and they just plain rock. "Aji-Kun"(AKFG) next and then maybe some "Maximum the Hormone".
I've seen The Pillows Live in Chicago and they're absolutely amazing.

When I think of a JRock pack I'm thinking Asian Kung-fu Generation, NIGHTMARE (SERIOUSLY CAN'T FORGET NIGHTMARE!!!), Do As Infinity, X Japan, UVERworld, and maybe a few Mika Nakashima NaNa songs. What does everybody think? Please respond!

Shame-shame. Just because those who don't speak Japanese can actually understand them and even sing along doesn't make them less Japanese.

I don't even know how much I'd pay to get some X-Japan songs in here.
Old school Miyavi, D'espairsRay, and some Aikaryu would be PERFECT for guitar. I haven't heard people shred like Aikaryu can in a long while.
Honestly, I think we should focus on the J-rock and not so much the J-pop. This is ROCK Band after all, not Pop Band.

I love me som J rock but just think how painful it would be for people trying to vocalize that. Maybe some of the bands that use more english lyrics like Penpals. The Pillows are instantly the next thing that comes to mind, Then Tomoyasu Hotei.... Wow, someone mentioned Maximum the Harmone? I wouldnt mind trying Rolling 1000toon.
Hikaru Utada... as much as I like her is more techo/dance not really a "rockband" style artist.
As much as we'd like to dream I wonder just how possible it is though? I mean Guitar Hero just added some foreign songs this week, you're only playing the guitar in that so it's not a big deal, heck they might even actually try some japanese rock if these songs sell but for a game like Rock Band would it be something that would sell since atleast one member of the band could end up feeling alienated? Sure I'd love to sing them but would enough 'other' people want to?

It won't happen.
Negociating with Japanese management is utter chaos.
Very few labels, particularly Sony, Toshiba, Universal, etc. etc. see very little reason to promote Japanese music in the United States.
The vocals aren't really a problem. This would be DLC, as in... you don't have to buy it. That is problem #1 for Japanese labels. They like money, and see very little sense in putting effort (time + money = effort) into something that likely won't draw a big profit.
Think about it, I love Japanese music, you all may love it too. But, unlike having Skynard or Rush as DLC, very few people in America as a whole love Japanese music. Sure, bands like Dir en grey can have headlining tours here (albeit with disappointing ticket sales)... bands who perform at anime conventions do well... but putting songs up for DLC?
If it does ever happen... HMX deserves credit for being able to negociate with Japanese labels.
Good luck on that one ;)
(BTW... BECK: Mongolian Chop Squad isn't a band. BeCr (Beat Crusaders) did much of the music for the series... but the lead singer of Husking Bee did the voice for Koyuki and most of the other vocals/music in the show were handled by the Beat Crusaders.)

Well I have to wonder, I mean havent games like Guitar Hero made it to Japan yet? Heck Guitar Freaks is basically the same game, DrumMania? Karaoke Revolution... Karaoke IS japanese! I cant see them not wanting to include their songs in the games when they come from america if at all possible.
If they got DLC in japan I'd probably get one of those imported sony cards to put money in my japanese account to buy something from their store (I dont know if it would even work on the american version of course but I'd seriously be hoping so.)
Anyway my point is ANY money they get would be good whether it's from their own region or ours, all they have to do is provide masters. Also with the heavy influence of anime and manga in the US there are already people who know these groups and have formed their own fan bases here. Tomoyasu Hotei actually performed music for the Team America soundtrack Another Japanese band B'z even has a song on the latest Burnout game from EA. it isnt the best song but it's a start towards expanding their fanbase.
pretty_pink_pistol
01-06-2008, 01:23 AM
even the japanese version of karaoke revolution doesn't have the actual song tracks. they're just ...like MIDIs. the best music Japan has i think, is DDR and Beatmania =/ i dunno what it is about getting real techno music, but i guess its cheaper than paying record companies for the music. =/
Alpha2
01-06-2008, 02:26 AM
never heard the japanese version of KR, but Singstar is another game in the same lineage of singing games and that goes a long way to getting real music, it's also a game I would expect to make the jump but being more focused on vocals I'd assume more need for localized talent.
record companies are a lot different overseas. I mean just think all the anime theme songs we hear are actually hit singles form real bands there, not some stock voice actor repeating the same 5 word phrase over and over like we get for our TV shows here.

Crsuh 40 is an american band that did songs for Sonic Adventure series and some other works. They had a Japanese Guitarist which he is pretty good :O
and EvilGamerX do you go to a forum called Arlong Park?
Also I know Beck isnt a band but I met the soundtrack in general made by beactcrusader maybe I should change it to them instead of beck hehe.

I have a feeling that "The Pillows" are going to be the best bet for this game. And I'm sure not complaining.
The vast majority of their material is in English, they are popular (no doubt because of FLCL), and all four instruments are represented perfectly.
Here's to hoping.

Do some research, Jrock is actually quite vibrant and the majority of it is not 'from animes'. It's slowly becoming more popular in north america too with certain bands touring around as previously mentioned. There is some quality stuff out there. Don't be so narrow minded to knock off an entire countriys music on the basis of a few cheese anime songs. Every country has garbage music, just as it has some amazing stuff.

hmm, i'm not jumping out of my seat for japanese rock, and i'm japanese lol - but if they did i'd like to hear either Luna (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YED4ND-oQFk&feature=related ) or Speed Master by Gackt (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0e0qhUGCXo&feature=related)
only videos i could find for them :(
Eastern Youth (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OnPlPg1zxhk) and The Pillows (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtYJwJ_YeWk) should be included in a Japanese rock pack.
Any stuff in Japanese would be hard to sing though.
High and Mighty Color also comes to mind.

Some Gackt would be outstanding; Redemption, Returner, Black Stone, Dispar, Mizerable, etc.. Also, LArc En Ciel, Dir en Grey, Nightmare would all rock to have to play and sing too. The recently formed S.K.I.N. would be a dream come true and I'd pay any amount to play some of their songs.. of course, whenever their debut album is released that is. Again, this probably won't happen unless the game is released in Japan... *fingers crossed* Pleaaassee Harmonix, let's see a JROCK pack with some Gackt!!! :D

Hey everyone, not wanting to resurrect a dead topic...
However, recently I heard the song 'Fuzz' by MUCC on the Cloverfield Party Mix. I like J-Rock (I've been told this is specifically Visual Kei) and think this one'd be great for Rock Band. I don't speak Japanese, but if they did the lyrics in romaji then any nonspeaker would easily be able to grasp the song after a few playthroughs. I know I did!
