naa, they're definitely good, but not greatest ever, that's for Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, and similar bands to battle out.

I agree with the original poster. They probably have four or five songs in their entire library that aren't great. And I think of every member except for the drummer as one of the greatest at their respective instruments/vocals ever. Why can only older bands be considered "great"?

Eww I hate RHCP, they aren't really that innovative and are pretty generic.

In the words of The Dude- "Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man."

they've been playing the same stuff for a while....

and there are many other bands that have been around longer.

because they're getting old doesn't automatically bake them better.

They do have possibly the greatest bassist and one of the greatest guitarists of all time. And they pwn pretty much any band on the radio right now.

Sorry, IMHO, they're not even in the top 10 all time.

Blood Sugar Sex Magick was the only album of theirs that I could stomach. I really liked the majority of it...everything afterwards, I found to be terrible.

But then again, while I will grant you that they are fine musicians, I really don't care for a band that does NOTHING but radio rock anymore. Fine for chicks, but not for me.

...So you're saying that Californication is terrible?

rhcp's are amazing.

...So you're saying that Californication is terrible?

Absolutely. Admittedly I neither bought nor listened to that whole album, but the singles off of it that got waaaay too much radio airplay told me everything I really need to know about the album. I know that's not entirely fair, but at the same time if their singles from the album aren't representative of that particular body of work, then they or their label were deliberately attempting to rip off fans, which is quite a bit worse.

I'm not criticizing their ability as musicians per se. They are far more accomplished and talented than I will ever be. The best I can hope to do with guitar is to make some noises that would make baby Jesus cry.

The best I could do with a set of drums would be the most basic of rhythms, possibly which might give my neighbors migraines.

I'm not even really going to get into my vocal quality, but suffice it to say that the vast majority of people would pay my band NOT to play if I was a lead singer.

I just feel that they lost it when they abandoned the funkier sound of BSSM. It's really like they sat down and said, "Do you realize how much money we can make if we make radio tunes?"

I also think Flea rejoining a reformed Jane's Addiction(Or was it Porno for Pyros?) didn't help things. Perry Farrell is a cancer, and I think it was his influence (via either getting them very into drugs or simply sharing philosophy on music)that led them down the path they're on right now.

But that's really just my opinion, and you're certainly entitled to your own.

(On a side note, you have quite possibly the greatest forum name I've ever seen in any context. Cheers to you.)

I've never liked them. They've only made like one song and copied it over and over.

Really? Have you listened to their first few albums? They didn't get good until Blood Sugar Sex Magik. At least that is how I feel.

By The Way is amazing, one of my most favorite albums of all time. Stadium Arcadium is very impressive as well. Great band overall, I love 'em.

No, they are definitely not the best band ever. Not even top 100 ever.

And I like RHCP.

i've really never liked anthony kiedis, his lyrics or his singing, but john frusciante and flea are definantly two of the greatest, imo, and chad smith is a capable drummer too

Red Hot Chili Peppers aren't the best band ever simply because they're not Queen. ;)

Nope. To be honest, it's because I know I wouldn't like them as much if I did.
