Dead whammy (not spring related)

A day after getting the game the whammy on my PS3 guitar went dead. It feels ok but nothing happens in the game. It's not 100% dead because sometimes I can get some short vibration to the notes but only rarely.

Any idea what's broken and anything I can do about it? I'm outside the USA so I can't easily replace the guitar.

I'm having the same issue. At first I thought that maybe the song didn't support the distorted notes so I went to the whammy tutorial and it didn't work there.

The spring still works but no distortion. For what it's worth, I'm going to wait until after the holidays before I get my replacement because it's still playable for now and I can't stand the debit hold over the holidays.
