i'll give you FIVE suggestions!

suspiria
basket case
videodrome
in the mouth of madness
uzamaki

all of these should be fairly easy to find... i can bust out some more obscure selections if you'd like.

I have a bunch I go through…

The Shining (1980)
Night of the Living Dead (1968)
Dawn of the Dead (1979)
The Changeling (1980) (Awesome forgotten haunted house flick starring George C. Scott)
Psycho (1960)
The Thing (1982)
In the Mouth of Madness (1995)

(I denoted the years because unfortunately most of them have lower quality remakes.)

And so many more. I’m a horror fanatic.

I know this is blasphemy in horror circles but Suspiria is the only Argento film I like. I love it… and I’ve tried to love his others. They’re just so sub par though.

anyways, not really scary, but a classic thriller, Last House On the Left (1972), the original, not the super-crappy remake, it's Wes Craven's debut movie

suspiria's the only one i can say i really love, but out of the five or six others i've seen i've never seen one i'd consider bad.

Watch Manos: The Hands of Fate and NOT the MST3k version. You'll end up in a hysterical fit by the end of the film.

i believe his other more popular movies include opera, phenomena (released in america as creepers), and his adaptation of the phantom of the opera.

k, I remember seeing Opera a while back when I was big in to horror flicks.

I found Suspiria equal parts boring, irritating, and hilarious. I'm very sorry for my crimes.

I will echo the recommendation on The Thing. The others, though, I've either seen and didn't like or haven't seen.

Eraserhead is a decent psychological horror movie. I really enjoyed it, but you've gotta have the patience to let it flesh out, and actually pay attention to it. I like to think the movie is only as effective as you let it be.

beautiful selection. it it werent for the horrendous acting in it, itd be an all time fav of mine... it still is but dont crack my top 5, well it does in the horror category :D ... the concept is dynamite, that if the insane outnumbered the sane that the sane would then be the insane ones.

here are my favorite horror movies

Event Horizon
Ravenous
The Thing

Love horror movies, probably my favorite genre for a movie:

Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning
all the original Halloweens
Nightmare on Elm Street
Friday the 13th
It
Amittyville Horror (old or new, they're both pretty good)
Dawn Of The Dead
Night Of The Living Dead

There's a lot more that I can't remember right now, but as you can see I'm a fan of the older horror movies. The newer ones just arent the same, too much gore I guess.

Ichi the Killer
Nosferatu

Ichi the Killer is an odd choice. There's nothing frightening about it.

Sweet movie, that one.

For me it's up there with The Grandmother in terms of art-driven film.

i agree, but some people find gore scary. Plus the movie has a fairly horrific theme to begin with.

i'm actually not too fond of ichi the killer... i like quite a few of takashi miike's other films, though.

begotten and nosferatu are two of my favorites, though.

i actually got a promo copy of audition when i was working at a record store that had a small dvd section.
no one else wanted it and contrary to what our suppliers believe we didn't have a TV set up for promos, so i took it home.

i haven't seen teorama... netflix didn't have it when i was a member. :(

Also a good choice. I think that's where Silent Hill gets a lot of its inspiration from, right?

Oh BIG time, I heard about it before playing the first silent hill and after I watched it I was like "Oh yeah, they definitely watched this movie before making silent hill"

On Topic: Since there are many knowledgeable horror movie fans here, does anyone remember the title of the film (fairly recent) whose plot revolved around some guys (who ending up getting killed) doing reconstruction work in an asylum?

Defiantly Session 9 like Stew said. Great film. For some reason it just reminded me of Chasing Sleep with Jeff Danials. It’s another good one that’s more psychological horror.

The Machinist just popped into my head too. It’s similar in theme to Chasing Sleep.

I just picked up the original Tales From the Crypt and Vault of Horror in a double pack at Walmart. Retail price... $5. I was stoked. :)

I get to watch Joan Collins attacked by an axe wielding Santa tonight. Also the part with Nigel Patrick and the blind patients rocks. Razor blades and hungry German Shepherds make for one of the best revenge tales ever.

Lawdog1521

Their Website says Friday the 23rd. TMC should start running them soon too.

Last year they had The Little Girl That Lives Down the Lane. That's a cool, hard to find horror flick with Jodie Foster.

I think it still holds up well, along with Vault. But I'm bias, I even collect the old EC comics of it.

The HBO series still holds up pretty well too… although often looking very 90ish.
