Acceptable Band Names?

So, I just got Rock Band, and was creating my band when I got the message that "Your band name isn't what some people would call tasteful..." and that it wouldn't be seen online. My band name?

I'm seriously wanting to know why "Underpants" is a banned word!!! Further, I'm wondering if there's a word list somewhere other than the 7 dirty words that is considered "not tasteful" so I know what I might be able to name my band.

Apparently 'fetus' isn't acceptable either; that's certainly less tasteful than 'underpants,' but still not really profane. I understand wanting to give younger players a safer experience, but my two bands with profanity simply don't exist online. Wouldn't it be better to replace the offending word(s) with asterisks, or a [redacted] or something? When you can order band merchandise, I'd like to be able to get a t shirt or something from one of my less tasteful bands.

Besides, people will always get around the system. You realize that the #2 band on the 360 leaderboards is 'The QU33FS,' right?

You could use alternate spellings.

The game says Lesbian is not acceptable. Named my band Lesbian Dragons and didn't find out for 5 days why we weren't on the Leaderboards. My friends went to dinner and I stayed behind and decided to pimp out my character when I discovered that I could make a band logo and after I got done making it the game finaly gave me the message about how the name was not acceptable and it wouldn't show up on leaderboards.

I wish the filter wasn't as smart though, it blocked a lot of combinations of characters to form an 'L'. I found a way to make an 'L', but couldn't find a way to have '*****' in my singer's name. Eventualy gave up and just used an '*' for a letter.

Have to disagree that "fetus" could even be considered distasteful. That would be like saying "lungs" or "hair" or "umbilical cord" is distasteful. I suppose anything in a certain context could be considered offensive, but jeez...

My wife decided to name her band Hung Like Kelly. Not classy. Since she doesn't care about community we kept the name.

Midget In Your Car was not classy but it seemed that Midgets In Your Car was... WTF? Its not ok to offend one little person in particular but if I've got a car full of em that's cool. I dumped the name for PDXMF, MF is of course the classy way to say Mother Fockers :)

And of course my original band The Flaming Moustache Ride is totally classy even though it is probably more suggestive than any of the later names I created.

TheChairman, I know 'fetus' isn't that profane but I didn't want to seem like I was coming off as self-righteous when my band name is Scraping Fetus off the Wheel (it was a name of a band that supposedly existed but which I could never find; two days after I made it in-game I realized that it was spelled 'feotus' because the guy is Australian (additionally, they suck)). I'm not saying that it's a name I'd show to my grandparents, but I'd say 'I have a band' and leave it at that. The previous sentence was a horrible attempt at an analogy and I apologize.

Salt Water Spit and Salt Water Spat are both untasteful. I remember hearing someone saying it takes the words and looks at what they could be.. but after browsing Xbox Live I'm pretty sure that's not what happens.

Band names can be offensive to some but that is what sets you apart from everyone else. Real bands like The New Pornographers could be offensive to some people but is a popular band. (Popular enough to be on Rock Band)

I got the same "not tasteful message" when I named my drummer character in solo play. I've been using Gene Clito as my game name for everything for years and never had so much as a complaint. The funny thing is I created another character as a guitarist and named him Craven Moorehead and it's perfectly fine. Go figure...

The automated filter function to weed out inappropriate band names is just that... automated which means human judgment on a case-by-case basis is not available (wouldn't that be an awesome job? Sit there and go yay/nae on band names all day). Thus it has to be really picky as computers aren't smart enough to judge the overall idea in the band name so it's got to weed out enough words that could make a nasty name even if they have legitimate uses.

A band that I formed with my brother is called Pussiliath (like in The Forty-Year-Old Virgin) and a band that I formed with my bro and friend is called the Hobots. I have yet to find out whether or not these two show up on the PS3 leaderboards.

I've gone into my profile and can't seem to find a way to edit a character name, but upthread somebody said it can be done.

My singer, poor little Muffin Montgomry wants to show up on the leaderboards some day (this was indeed a "Porn Name"--first pet + street you grew up on, although I didn't know I had a pornographic kitten until a few years ago.).

What is even more weird is that my other band "The Scrotes" and my singer "Raminar Dickson" are both deemed classy.

Hehe...well, if you decide to do that, it's probably Foetus (classic spelling using the oe as one letter in that amazing way). But regardless, one of my friends who plays on XBL was telling me he came across a character or band named Phallic Baldwin. I'd say that's tasteless (but brilliant), and yet somehow got thru the filters. Phallic Baldwin, if you're out there, I salute you! :p

So I noticed a week ago that our band had been removed from the leaderboard. Looks like there was a general 'housecleaning' of band names. So the word reta<expletive deleted?>ed is not allowed, since it's so much worse than say the wang hangers or other slang suggestive names (Note, no bash on your playing skills Wang hangers, or even the name, just using you as an example).

Anyway, name was banned. Fine. Changed it to Pants on Head!?! and removed the last offensive word. Our band now shows up in game, but it seems that the scores are a little wonky. How long does it take to update the scores once we post an acceptable name? We played last night and most of our scores are back, but the career score never updated. Does this go through a screening process to ensure we picked a suitable name. We had no warning that we were to get banned so I'd like a little info on the reversal process. Thanks.
