For various reasons, The Beatles Rock Band's DLC is a bit different from the standard fare. Harmonix is prepared to launch DLC packs for the game over the course of the next three months, but they are taking a wait-and-see approach after that.
"It's not like Rock Band where we wait for the masters to come in and just author them ... its like, send people to Abbey Road, use the original tape, separate them out," Harmonix representative John Drake told BBPS.
In addition, Harmonix has to create more of the original dreamscapes that serve as Beatles Rock Band's calling card. As a result, producing more DLC costs "thousands of dollars," Drake said.
If the DLC does well though, Harmonix will continue to produce it. "If they sell well, we'll have a lot more content," he promised.
The Xbox 360 exclusive track "All Your Need Is Love" has done well, with Microsoft and MTV saying it's the fastest-selling downloadable song across any of the Rock Band platforms. If that's any indication of the reception that the rest of the DLC will receive, Beatles Rock Band owners should be fine. Hopefully the first song they add next year is "Help!"
The first batch of DLC, comprising the remaining songs from the Abbey Road album, will be out October 20, with songs from Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and Rubber Soul to follow in November and December respectively.
