Will the song be listed as being by "The Jimi Hendrix Experience" or just "Jimi Hendrix" If the latter I'll be dissapointed(Still buying)

It's fitting that the 1st post in this thread is by Flawless since the "VERY" in the title was semi-sarcastic.

I actually think it is pretty important, considering Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding were huge parts of the band.

I will be disappointed as well. Without Redding and Mitchell, Hendrix would be 2/3 less awesome.

It does to people who are big fans of the band. They didn't credit The Beatles songs written by Lennon as "John Lennon" did they?

Depends if they take it from the original album, or if they take it from a Jimi Hendrix greatest hits or something. Like what happened with Janis Joplin, they took the track from her greatest hits, and credited to her instead of Big Brother and the Holding Company. Even though it was the exact same track. (funny how when you sort by decade Piece of My Heart shows up in the 60's instead of the 70's as it's listed in the song data)

It's only important to the anal retentive. For the rest of the free world, we don't give a rat's ass. If you decide whether or not to purchase a game because of how a song is credited, you are screwing yourself out of a great experience. No pun intended.

Well honestly, I doubt we will get it from the studio album. The album was made with 4 tracks and you saw how The Beatles also were on 4 but we had Abbey Road engineers to split up the audio so that was expensive.

We shall see...

I think if it was a live recording they would have put "(Live)" in the press release. They always have.

CCDaDon
10-13-2009, 02:46 AM
But... if it wasn't the studio and it was performed by someone other than the Experience wouldn't it be credited to the Band of Gypsies? I don't remember Jimi ever having a true solo career.

The Who's cover is MUCH better, maybe it'll be that one :P

Speaking of which, I am disappointed at no Who track on there, but that's a topic for another thread.

Regardless, I'm sure that HMX knows enough to make it from the proper artist credit (The Jimi Hendrix Experience)

Yeah I was thinking the same thing as I watched thiswhole thread. Nobody is defending the Janis Joplin change.

Whatever the outcome the Hendrix estate should be defending the band's name. Not that Harmonix isn't responsible but still.

Beatles were on 2 tracks, hence the expensiveness... With 4 tracks (one for each instrument), it would be just fine to use (we all know 60's and 70's song made it in using this, or for some at least.) I'm thinking they're crediting Jimi Hendrix only because he owns the rights, which I wouldn't doubt since technically it was his band.

They have Elvis Costello without the attractions (considering it was their first album together) and Janis Joplin never had the studio version of Piece of My Heart, but Big Brother and the Holding Company did.

Yeah but a lot of it is loyalism and fanservice. At the end of the day everyone here b*tching will buy it regardless.

For the record I side with the loyalist crowd purely on the basis that if Neversoft can do it Harmonix can do it. If it were any other way then I wouldn't care but we've seen it done. Unless a rep shows up in here we can safely assume it could happen.

That they did, and didn't since DLC was just Jimi alone yet same albums. Basically GH trying to rush the market with a big name. If we want to get technical, even GH overlooked some lableing like Band On The Run is really by Paul McCartney & Wings,

Courtney owns the main 3, and Kurt basically. The masters of the rest are with other people, Sub Pop owns all of Bleach

That they did, but probably because they were just trying to rush the deals with Hendrix Estate (2 packs from him, but no transfer for that either was a sign something wasn't right to begin with.)

Courtney owns the main 3, and Kurt basically. The masters of the rest are with other people, Sub Pop owns all of Bleach
But...nobody likes Bleach. :p

I think the reason they excluded Hendrix from the export was they didn't want to pony up twice. And I don't see how rushing the deal would amount in the complete crediting of the full band.

Edited my post after thinking twice about my comment lol, but I'll agree with you there that may be a good part of why they didn't transfer over. As well as the whole Character recognition like Tool had as well maybe?

I thought the Big Brother & the Holding Company was a big snub, totally uncalled for. The Hendrix vs Experience issue would be less of an issue, but I still really, really want it correctly titled (if it is indeed the album track, which I hope!).

You would think HMX would strive to appropriately label all the songs they release. It's really not that hard to look this stuff up and get it right.

PS. Big Brother/Janis still pisses me off. So what if it's off Janis' greatest hits album. It's like if Layla was credited to Eric Clapton instead of Derek and the Dominos. If they ever pull that move, I'll love HMX for finally releasing some Clapton, but god damn, get the labeling right and respect the artists associated with the music!

I would argue that HMX labels songs exactly as they are told to do in the contract that liscenses such songs???

But that was GH dude. We've come a LONG way since then. Plus that was an instrumental cover and really it's not a fair comparison. That's a major step down. Plus WORLD TOUR DID IT!!! So that kind of puts whatever Guitar Hero 1 did on the backburner.

I think that's more on the band who submitted the material. It's possible that the band wants the song labeled a certain way, such as not listing the album as "Rock Band Re-Records". It took fans of The Cab to identify that we didn't get the album version of "One of Those Nights". Fault, if you want to call it that, could really be on either side.
