D'Toid gave it a 9.5 and their Editors Choice. (http://www.destructoid.com/review-uncharted-2-among-thieves-151685.phtml)

This game has been getting so many good review it's not even funny. I've now counted at least 2 people who claim it's the best single-player game ever.

Stolen blatantly from a Kotaku comment,

"The most surprising part of the game is when Eurogamer gave it 10/10"

If ****ing Eurogamer gives it a 10/10, you know it's gotta be incredible. Current metascore, 97. (http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/ps3/uncharted2amongthieves)

Honestly, when I played the first game I thought the moment I finished it...

"Man, the sequel will be a massive land mark in gaming."

And judging by all the review and gamer's views I was on the money.

It's not that I'm one step ahead of everyone, it's I just know that the first game gave me an experience I never had in gaming before. I felt like I just played a movie.

Add that to the fact it's Insomniac and the first in the series to me it was obvious that the sequel would be a land mark.

I would, if I were you. It introduces some of the main characters and it's a fun enough game in its own right. Plus it shouldn't take you that long to play through it, it's relatively short.

Sounds like a good idea, as I do want to get the full effect that all the review sites are going on about. Thanks, Lex.

I think it is modified levels from the story, so kinda like a little bit of both. It's related to the story because it takes place during the story, but it's not actually playing through the entire campaign mode with a friend.

Are there any more mutated human things in this one?
I've seen the levels with them on youtube, and I think that would have scared the Sh... er... crap out of me and I never would have touched the game again.

If I buy Uncharted 2, am I going to be scared Sh... er... crapless by some zombie type things and never touch the game again? try not to spoil any more of the game if I'm not. you can PM me the answer so nobody else reading the thread gets the answer spoiled. :)

Played about 4 hrs last night, this game is awesome. My favourite line of dialogue so far is early in the game when you're breaking in to steal the lamp, you're hanging from a ledge and a guard is above you, the british guy says :

"There's one above you! Above you!"

You take him down and throw him over the ledge...

"There's one below you! Below you!"

Replies and then my thoughts (if some of these are old, forgive me...I've been exclusively playing video games, instead of checking the RB forums for a few days now).

Short attention span suggestions are below in YELLOW!

When I played the first game, I was appalled at how critically acclaimed it was.

I feel that the second one will follow suit.

So I'm not the only one? I honestly was not impressed with the first one either.

FloodOne, I see that you've obviously played Uncharted 2 already, but I'm replying to these, in case the above comments apply to anyone reading this:

The first game was "meh" because of the ending (I don't need to spoil it) and because it was all on ONE island.

Halo 3 sucked because of that LONG board with the Flood, the game was short (about 10 hours...if that) and the ending was...lame (it made PERFECT sense to me, but it was still lame). I haven't beaten GTA4 yet, so I'm not sure about that one.

But Uncharted 2 is everything we all want story games to be: Entertaining, engaging, and very enjoyable throughout. It's a little longer that Halo 3 and about double the time it took me to beat ODST (two games that got WAY more "press" than they deserved, IMHO). If anyone's unsure about it, give it a rent and see. This IS a game that deserves the hype (and those reviewers were DEFINITELY not blowing things out of proportion...with this game, at least).

Should I play through the first one before trying Uncharted 2?

There are three jokes (that I counted) that will go over your head, if you haven't played the first game. --*SPOILERS*...sorta: "last year's model," "If I see a ___ around the corner" and "I'm never getting on a bridge with you again". Also, the character chemistry is very...palpable in the second game. Everything will make sense in the second game, if you haven't played the first, but the "little touches" like casual conversations won't be as enjoyable. Not a bad thing, but it's a treat if you understand everyone's "history."

I'm stuck at the part where you move the statues arms. I got it so where it's like the picture in the journal, but nothing happened/

Not sure if you STILL need help all these hours later, but here's some advice:

You have to climb up to a second level (above the first arms). Your entry point is on the right side of the room (don't want to spoil too much fun for you).

Also, to everyone else playing through the game right now:

When you reach a puzzle that involves spinning something, you'll need to climb onto those nearby "fences." The game hints are somewhat USELESS on this part, unless you are standing in one specific spot of the room. So you might be stuck here for a while wondering "what am I supposed to do?". What I just mentioned is one of those "oh...THAT" things, so it's not a spoiler or anything. You'll know what it is when you get to it. And if you're just reading this and you haven't reached it, you won't know what in the world I'm talking about. :p

is it just me or are the treasures a lot harder to find this time around? i dont remember having to shoot at treasures in order to aquire them in uncharted 1 lol

Yeah, NONE of the treasures in Uncharted 1 had to be shot. You'd just "approach" the treasure to aquire it and press Triangle. This time around, they've put them in crazy places. I'm actually checking YouTube vids right now, and all of you Trophy whores (you know who you are :p) are gonna have some crazy laughs with these trying to get that Platinum trophy.

I gotta say...I'm surprised so many of you haven't played it or beaten it yet. :p

Well, for me...I FINALLY bought a PS3 Slim last Thursday (9 days ago) and I played through Uncharted 1 three times during 5 of those 9 days:

*Played on Normal and got 35 treasures (took me a day to finish--last Friday afternoon).
*Played a new save file on Hard, after downloading the trophies update (I got all the treasures in that playthrough--took me two days).
*Played on Crushing this past Monday and finished the game Tuesday afternoon just before I started on Uncharted 2 (and got my platinum trophy for U1 right before the credits rolled :D).

So now on Uncharted 2, I've played through the campaign twice this week, and I'm on my third playthrough on Crushing (Chapter 3 right now). I have about 20 treasures left to find and I'll probably give the multiplayer a try next week.

I'm almost afraid to admit this: I haven't played RB2 ONE time in over a week.

I've had RB for almost a year now, and NO game has EVER made me "give RB a break" for more than two or three days. Uncharted 2 is SUCH an addictive game (and I haven't even played the mulitiplayer yet). Should I be worried?

For anyone who hasn't gotten it, or if you're on the fence:

GET...THIS...GAME!

The story is incredible, the gameplay is VERY fluid and it is EVERYTHING the first game should've been (no crazy twist and there are multiple locations throughout the whole game--compared to ONE island in Uncharted 1...it was STILL fun, but seriously?).

I just have a few words of caution:

When you play Uncharted 2, clear your schedule for AN ENTIRE DAY. Don't argue with me about that...just do it. Expect to have fun and have your "patience pants" on. Some parts will get to you time-wise. You'll die...a lot, and the enemies are MUCH tougher than most of the pirates from the first game. Enemies are also WAY smarter than the U1 pirates (eerily acurate grenade throws and gun shots...even on the lower difficulites, enemies will close in on you QUICKLY if you sit in one spot too long, etc.). These guys WILL annoy you, but they'll never make you say "I want to play something else" out of frustration. Dying constantly will make you think harder and force you to strategize your next move.

Do I want to take out this guy first or THAT guy? Should I sneak in or just give myself away and shoot like crazy? And so on...

Expect to laugh...a lot, and be ready to feel like a kid while playing this. You are SERIOUSLY not human, if there isn't ONE part of this entire game that leaves you speechless. :)

Super Bass, I am playing Uncharted 2 and I have to say I'm very impressed by it. It's a much more fluid feeling game than U1. The train set piece was especially impressive.

All in all, I'm having a blast with it, but I still think that Batman: AA is a better overall game, and my personal GOTY... unless Dragon Age is everything I hope it will be.

The thing is, I couldn't kill one of them. I don't think they had cross bows, I was playing one very easy.

This game is fantastic. The first one is still one of my favorite games, and this improves on that in a lot of ways.
HOWEVER, the combat can still be REALLY frustrating at times. It's as if the developers have one strategy that you have to use for some parts, and nothing else will work. So unless you can figure out what that strategy is without getting killed, you're going to get annoyed.
Also, one major improvement is that the world as a whole feels much more interactive. In the first one there was really only one way to get from point A to point B at any part of the game. In 2, it feels like there are more options open to you, even though you're still stuck on a mostly linear path. This openness can lead to a few "where the hell am I supposed to go now?" moments, but I think it's worth it.
I think I'm almost done with it, and I'll probably replay 1 and then 2 again immediately after.

the hardest treasure for me to get was without question 'bronze tiger bell' in "monastery". that sum***** was hard to get to lol. you gotta time your jump perfectly. i had to try that jump aound 6 or 7 times before i finally got it. bastard! lol

im just like you, i haven't played any other game since it released. beat the game a couple days ago but then i went back to the chapters where i missed some treasures. have 'em all now :D

now to beat the hard & crushing modes!!!

Just finished it today. Fantastic ending.
I always love reaching the end of a movie, book, game, whatever, and realizing just how much I care about the characters. That definitely happened to me at the end of this, even though I'm already pretty into the whole Uncharted mythos.

I finished Batman: AA just before starting Uncharted 2 and I have to disagree. It's of course just personal taste but as good as Batman was I felt like it moved really slowly and there wasn't enough action.

I find Uncharted 2 is a really good mix of non-stop action gunfights and puzzle/exploring type stuff.

I really love this game :)

Guys, I just beat the game on Crushing mode. WOW! The campaign was just as fun the third time as my first two playthroughs. The last chapter took me AT LEAST 30 tries before I finally beat it. "Good Luck" to all who want to attempt it. ;)

Now I have to find my last 3 missing treasures, and I've got about 4 trophies to get offline and those two online ones. I can't wait to tackle all that this week. :)

Hopefully, I'll finish most of that tonight so I can rock out to Queen tomorrow.

now to beat the hard & crushing modes!!!

Patience is almost a requirement with this game, especially on Hard and Crushing. Unless you can stand getting killed CONSTANTLY, play the game in very short bursts. Cover is your friend and accurate shots will keep you alive in tight spots. The "Crushing" experience for me was pretty much what I said to you guys on Page 7:

If you didn't use stealth much during your first playthrough, you'll DEFINITELY find yourself sneaking around to stay alive a lot more on Hard and ESPECIALLY on Crushing. One enemy can kill you in about five seconds. And if he's got friends around, you'll be lucky if you can take out one of them before the barrage of bullets turns your colorful screen to black and white.

If you've played the first game on Crushing and had no problem with it, you should just jump straight into your replay game on Crushing. The trophies and the difficulties stack, so you can just "chapter select" and drop down to Hard if there's any part in the game that annoys you too much to finish on Crushing. Follow that advice and you'll be fine. Good Luck!

I have a copy in my hands right now (it's really difficult to type with your hands full)!
heading to play it right now!

Expect your heart to jump at least once, expect to laugh...a lot, and expect a really happy feeling while playing. A feeling that only your childhood days could give you. The end will blow your mind...emotionally, at least. You've been warned. :)

Oh, and to FloodOne and jonoo24, I felt EXACTLY the same way about the trucks. I died a few times on my first playthrough, but I never got mad about it like most games would make you feel if you kept dying. I think today I realized that THAT section is probably my favorite chapter in the game. Shame it's not a little longer, but I'll take "short and sweet" over "long and boring" any day. :p

Now see, that's the whole personal preference thing. I'm not into tons of "GO GO GO!!" action, so usually these kind of games turn me off.

Uncharted however, blows me away. I still maintain that Batman is my GOTY, but U2 is pretty damn amazing.

The co-op mission mode is pretty fun. There's only 3 levels, but I don't mind playing them again and again. The temple one is a lot of fun and is somewhat similar to what you do in the story mode at that part.

When I first got my PS3 a couple years ago, Uncharted was one of the first demos I downloaded. I played it a bit, didn't care for it too much, and deleted it. I got Uncharted 2 mostly because of the overwhelming critical acclaim and just finished playing it yesterday. It's a really engrossing, fun and clever game. There were a couple times when I got a little frustrated or confused, but the totality of the experience made it all worthwhile. The single-player campaign is in the top 5 of any action-oriented game I've ever played, and I'd easily recommend this game to everyone.

Go to Chapter Select, choose chapter 6 "Desperate Times" and select the Very Easy difficulty. The beginning of this chapter has a handful of enemies, so getting the trophy shouldn't take more than one or two tries. Enemies are very weak on the easier difficulties, so you only need to shoot an enemy once and punch him. Two hits will kill everyone but the shotgun guys. Let Chloe kill the shotgun guys or leave them for last. Kill ten enemies in a row, then BAM! Trophy time! :D

Spidey, what other trophies are you having trouble with?

Complete on Crushing Mode? lol

Well, I hope he's at least STARTED Crushing mode. :p

As intimidating as "Crushing mode" sounds, the game is actually pretty doable on the hardest difficulty. If anyone is going for that Crushing trophy:

COVER IS YOUR FRIEND! ;)

I put that in caps because I want you guys to remember that. There will be at least one instance where you'll want to just run in and shoot everybody. Don't do it! The bad guys will kill you before you have a chance to empty your first clip.

Using stealth helps tremendously in tough spots (like when you have to get a gun after escaping "that near-death situation with the 'right-hand man'"). And there is always at least one way to stay alive, if you are stuck in a particular part of the game where you KEEP dying. Grrrrrrr! It is VERY frustrating!

Study areas to discover the best cover spots and try to be as accurate as possible with your aim (shots chest-up will kill enemies faster--go for headshots with the shotgun guys). If you can't take out enemies from cover within five seconds, duck back down and wait for your life to heal.

DO NOT get antsy and try to take enemies out if you are not at full health. Blind fire if you must, but don't get impatient and stick your head out prematurely. Crushing mode will take some time to finish (heck, Normal took me a day to beat and Crushing took about three days :p). But when you get that Platinum trophy, the effort will be SO worth it. :)

Now get to it, guys!

Oh, and random advice:

On the final chapter, shoot & run and throw grenades near the "assistant spots" to make the "fireworks" more effective. If you throw them in the right spots, you don't need to stop and aim. This will keep you alive and your opponent will be history, if you can effectively do this enough times.

Am I the only one that found a few flaws with the game? Nothing game-destroying, but definitely noticeable to me in just one playthrough.

Right off the bat: partner AI. In a nutshell, they suck. I'm happy they can climb and get where we need to go without any problems, but in combat, they're only useful as a bullet sponge, since I've yet to have one die on me. They shrug off the RPGs and fire the puniest weapon in the entire game, a pistol, at whichever enemy they're "stuck" on. That's the best-case scenario. Other times (climbing through the buildings to reach the hotel, for example), the chick just stands there while I take on the bullet-proof shotgunner by myself. Not cool.

To counter this with a positive, the enemy AI is freaking awesome. They'll flank, throw grenades, and pin you down with crossfire if you let them. Add that to the fact some of them seem to take two or three headshots, and they become a great challenge.

The game is way too short to be GotY material. I felt like I was in a movie, yeah, but I felt the same way during Metal Gear Solid 4, which was a hell of a lot longer (and more strategically diverse, if I do say so myself). U2 counters this with more moments where you are playing IN the film, rather than the bystander effect MGS4 can have.

Other biggie: helicopters. **** you, helicopter, and your seemingly random missiles. This is where I died the most, on the first half of the train level. Sometimes the helicopter will attack you with missiles while you wait on the side of the cart, for the sign to go by. Sometimes the helicopter will fire its machine gun nonstop, as you button-mash the door open. Sometimes the helicopter WILL ATTACK YOU DIRECTLY WITH A MISSILE MID-JUMP!

Those are my only gripes. Everything else - gunplay, climbing, storyline, acting, graphics, the works - is fine and dandy. I feel there is just a tad bit of overhype attached to this game, though. It's not the genre-definer people are saying it is.
