When everyone keeps suggesting Metal songs they are keeping in mind that we don't get a second kick pedal so we need to start suggesting songs that could actually be played with the current drum set......
Most of my favorite bands are Metal like Opeth, (Old) Trivium, All That Remains, Unearth, Killswitch Engage etc. One of the only newer Metal bands that has good songs that could actually be played on this drum set is by In Flames.
In Flames Pack
- Leeches (A Few Crazy Parts on the Kick Pedal but the majority of the song would be sick to play)
- Gyroscope (Perfect)
- Come Clarity (Perfect)
- Dialogue With the Stars (Perfect)
- Man Made God (would have been an amazing instrumental if it wasn't for that part at the 2:45 mark)
Anyways check out the songs, they'd be extremely fun to play and would actually be playable unlike 98% of Metal....

I like metal, but to be honest, Guitar Hero kinda burnt me out on it. The thing that really appeals to me about Rock Band is that the setlist is sort of like an adult sing-a-long soundtrack. I think I've had all of the main songs stuck in my head at one point or another.
Also, I feel like metal is used (especially in the GH franchise) to make really really hard songs just to challenge players for lack of songs that are just great to listen to. I am absolutely blown away by the guitar work in Through the Fire and Flames, but Spoon is much more something that I'd listen to while I'm doing homework or riding the train, humming along, and I'd be more interested in playing through something like Cherry Bomb than I would TtF&F or Six. If Rock Band started pushing a ton of metal packs (don't get me wrong, I do love the occasional Metallica or Sabbath pack), I'd get bored, probably frustrated, and stop playing. I'd rather see a much more diverse soundtrack with all genres, even if that means to include acts like Panic! or My Chemical Romance before I'd want to play 70 metal songs.

Honestly, I'm very disappointed with Rock Band's song list. Guitar Hero 3 had an awesome song list, but Rock Band does not appeal to me very much beyond The Who and The Killers. This is a big problem considering I spent $50 on GH3 and $170 on RB.
I'm not saying metal is the answer, but it seems like a more energetic songs could have been picked even from the artists that are already in RB. Dead or Alive? Too slow. I would much rather jam to Its My Life. Paranoid? We already had that in GH3. Say It Ain't So? This liost could go on for almost all 58 songs and even the DLC is unsatisfying.
Most of my favorite songs have already been done in Guitar Hero series , but that shouldn't stop them from being in Rock Band.

I agree. It's occurred to me that Harmonix doesn't have a lot of metal fans in it. There's a ton of great stuff that would be perfect for this game. They could really branch out, and they simply aren't.

Last night, my girl hosted a white elephant gift party (in case you don't know, it's where you randomly give someone oddball stuff; I ended up with a street sign and a broken antique clock, she got sofa cushions, that kind of thing) and her apartment is kinda small. There ended up being three groups for things to do: The kitchen was where people chatted about current events and ate and drank, the dining area was taken over by people playing Uno (I was in that group) and the living room area was rock banding. Of course, there were people who were interested in seeing the game, but what was really cool was that during some songs, everything stopped and all in attendance sung along. They were songs like "When You Were Young," "Creep," "Won't Get Fooled Again," "Buddy Holly," "Say It Ain't So," even ones like "Paranoid," "Here It Goes Again," and "Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld," "I'm So Sick," and "Enter Sandman."
The ones that didn't go over that great were ones like "Blackened," "NIB," "Dead on Arrival," "Run to the Hills," "Nightmare," and "Welcome Home."
It was really awesome to have that kind of crowd participation. I mean, when the living room people played GH3 (for the first hour of the night), it was for two people, but the Rock Band setlist was enjoyed by a fairly diverse crowd (One girl, who sang Timmy, was saying how she wished there was more FOB and a foreign exchange student said he'd like to hear some Beatles or german techno), but metal just wasn't as fun for people to sing along with. Playing the game is cool (I particularly like picking up the drums when I'm stuck writing a song or avoiding homework), but those kicked up Girl's party from "Ok, I'll live through it," to "Let's do it again sometime."

I agree completely Softsurv!
A majority of the content built into Rockband can be enjoyed by wide range of people. I've had my parents (in they're early 50's), ourselves (late 20's) and my younger brothers (mid-teens) all playing rockband together and having a blast!
Songs from Metallica, Iron Maiden and other heavy stuff, yet impressive to watch and a blast to play for experienced players and dedicated fans of the group, dont get the same group participation from both people playing and people watching.
I was very disappointed with the DLC once it was released to us in Canada:
Metallica Pack: Excellent for Fans of the group and well worth the money for us - but dont expect a your New Years Eve Party to be all gathering and singing along to Blackened.
David Bowie Pack: Come on - was is this crap - David Bowie is a legendary artist, where all these B sides? Ive never heard them.
Police Pack - Roxane is the only one worth the MS points IMO. the rest are not... I thought Police, like Bowie, has many hits to choose from but not found in the pack
Queen of the Stone Age Pack: Crap
Punk Pack: Ditto - More Crap
Singles: CCR, T-Rex, Pretenders are not bad. The rest (I might be missing 1 or 2 other O.K. songs) are Crap...
HMX needs to release some good worth while content for everyone. I hate the use the word, but more Main Stream music needs to be added to DLC. Here are some examples not in any particular order
Jefferson Airplane
Queen
Billy Idol
U2
Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Hendrix
The Eagles
The Doors
The Who
AC/DC
Metallica - but songs that actually made radio like Nothing Else Matters, Hero of the Day - absolutely no St. Anger
And the list goes on.....
And absolutely, there needs to be more of the current Mainstream music like:
NickelBack - a few of the more popular songs
Seether - Fake it
Finger Eleven - Paralyzed
Again these are just suggestion and everyone's opinion of what's songs will vary to some degree. But the DLC up to date his horrible and is not worth the MS points/Money the are requesting. I feel for the HMX employees who had to produce the in game content for these tracks...

While I agree with what a lot of you people are saying you are forgetting a few crucial and important things....
People play what they like and what is fun to play. I've never played drums in my life and after playing on medium for a few hours I was able to play Say It Aint So on Expert and get 98% accuracy. Are You Kidding Me?
That isn't the kind of song that is going to give this song longevity.
You are also forgetting that the majority of this game will be played alone or with another person. That means Guitar and Drums will be the norm. What songs have the best guitar and drums? Metal and Hard Rock...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bQK53HHeo58 This Would Be Fun As Hell (no vocals though) Somebody put it to an Unreal 3 video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QpWBzzgmITE
I'm not saying they should force feed music down everyones throats but if they are gonna release packs from artists like David Bowie they should cater to the opposite ends of the spectrum as well and these are some songs that would be playable with the drum set we have.
I understand that the 1% of people that have huge christmas parties and plug in rock band might get a bigger sing along with some of the songs they included in the game but if they want people to be playing this game they'll start incorporating songs that are hard to sing, hard to play on guitar and hard to play on drums.....
All I know is that everytime I have people over to play they go right to the fast paced songs not the crap they incorporated from 2000+ excluding Dani California.

Funny thing is that slow songs can be just as technically difficult as a fast song.
I think what we are agreeing on is that the DLC needs a good balance. A combination of popular Classic rock for the people who like to sit down with a group or family or group and songs that are challenging for the truly skilled players, like the metallica pack. Most songs I can play on hard and get 85%-95% - when I tried Blackend and And justice for all... lol

Damn, everyone is so down on the metal. The metal is what keeps me from getting bored. Does any one know if there is a way to rip that f*cking Strokes song out of the guts of my PS3? Everytime I hear that song, I take a sh*t on my PS3, and I think Harmonix should pay for it. I just can't help myself, and they should have at least tested the effects a song that bad has on people with weak stomachs. That is the only song so far in my library that makes me want to drop dead.

Yes a good balance is definately needed but I made this thread because clearly they have incorporated some classic rock, some awesome 90's songs, some horribly crappy recent music and the metallica pack represents old metal. Thats why I'd like to see something a bit more recent from the genre.
If you think Reptilia is the worst track then you clearly haven't played the Fall Out Boy song yet.
Besides the In Flames Pack I suggested I'd like to see something like this:
Stone Temple Pilots Pack
- Interstate Love Song
- Wicked Garden
- Big Bang Baby
Soundgarden Pack
- Jesus Christ Pose
- Burden in My Hand
- Outshined
Red Hot Chili Peppers Pack
- Sir Psycho Sexy
- Around the World
- Funky Monks
Alice in Chains Pack
- No Excuses (altho the drum part is too complex for the kit)
- Rain When I Die
- Man in the Box
Tom Petty Pack
- Mary Jane's Last Dance
- Refugee
- I Need to Know
System of a Down Pack
- Sugar
- Spiders
- Toxicity
Stereophonics Pack
- Bank Holiday Monday
- Superman
- Dakota
The Smiths Pack
- There is a Light That Never Goes Out
- Bigmouth Strikes Again
- What Difference Does It Make?

- Failure

I just threw up. The day they resort to having to put lolNickelback songs on RB, is the day the Celine Dion DL packs get old.
The more metal and the harder the metal the better. I need some songs that actually make me wanna stand up and get into playing.
Through the Eyes of the Dead
All that Remains
Five Finger Death Punch
etc, etc.

I really want to start seeing some more metal. It doesn't need to be hardcore stuff, but there's plenty of music that could work well for the game.
Megadeth - Sweating Bullets: I'd actually be able to sing this one and I can't sing on anything else in the game lol http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rVmwcDOoDKE
Annihilator - Operation Annihilation - I'd rather have some older stuff, but that could be kinda tough to do vocals wise. Video actually has alittle "King of the Kill" in the beginning.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3QFCKpYMOQ
Overkill - Walk Through Fire - Who says the vocals need to be clean? If they can put "Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld" into this game, they can put other stuff also. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IKjEAzIi8EE
Dethklok - Kill You - Without going into the super heavy vocals, which I'd rather have, "Kill You" could work cause it's "Ladies Metal" XD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9staVBe_Jw0
There's plenty of other bands, but I think we should start seeing some more metal soon.

Of course any pack can be disputed... everyone has different favorite songs. Seems like to be worth the time and money, the songs need to be marketed to an audience that has heard them before. Honestly, I don't think there is a single song on the RB soundtrack that is crap. I enjoy playing them all, and it is a good new way to learn new songs I would not have bothered buying in a record store or from a place like Itunes. So for my list:
Megadeth Pack
- Hangar 18
- Five Magics
- Foreclosure of a Dream
Everclear Pack
- Heroin Girl
- Everything to Everyone
- Rock Star
Scorpions Pack
- Sails of Charon
- Rock You Like A Hurricane
- The Zoo
Soundgarden Pack 2
- Rusty Cage
- Outshined
- Fell on Black Days
Testament Pack
- Electric Crown
- Trial by Fire
- The Burning Times
Rancid Pack
- Salvation
- As One
- Ruby Soho
Offspring Pack 2
- Burn It Up
- What Happened to You?
- She's Got Issues
Bad Religion Pack
- Delirium of Disorder
- Portrait of Authority
- Infected
Dandelion Pack
- Waiting for a Ride
- I Think I'm Gonna be Sick
- Weird-out
Blind Melon Pack
- Tones of Home
- No Rain
- Galaxie
Savatage Pack
- Gutter Ballet
- When the Crowds are Gone
- He Carves His Stone
...This was just a brainstorm. I will think of more and post again. I am sure you are all on the edge of your seats.

I like how you added to my Soundgarden by putting Pack 2 but I had Outshined in my Pack.
Also that Offspring Pack you suggested would be severely weak considering their classics you left out.
Some of the other packs are by bands that are a little too niche and not exactly known by the masses.
I think they need to release a patch and sell a second kick pedal and a splitter for $20. Then we could actually get the experience many of us want.

Not that I'm trying to really bash Harmonix...they've got a great track record, and RB is fun as heck to play, moreso with friends. That being said, I'm afraid that MTV might flex a certain amount of creative control over song packs and such. Since the mid 90's, MTV has fluctuated from outright anti-metal to only caring about nu metal and metalcore, while paying bare lip service to what many fans would call "true metal". Anyone who remembers the original Headbanger's Ball knows what I'm talking about here.
I'm a little worried at this point that metal fans are going to be stuck with only the newer stuff that MTV either has a financial interest in,(Like if they're sponsoring an Avenged Sevenfold tour, we magically would see an Avenged pack.) or we'll get stuck with the "prettier" metal bands, like Linkin Park. (The kind that have the pretty videos in heavy rotation on MTV)
It's not meant as a slap at Linkin or Avenged fans....I just think that Strapping Young Lad is more talented....but BOY are they an ugly bunch of guys. Ugly doesn't succeed in MTV's world. I just hope I'm worried for nothing.

Sadly, you're probably right. It's a shame we can't get Century Media records to finance a "Gods Of Metal" game that just happened to be compatible with the guitar controllers.

I would LOVE for In Flames to become a part of Rock Band, there are just too many songs that I want to play by them. My only beef is that the vocals would be extremely hard, because you would mostly be growling the whole time (Unless it's more off of the new Albums like Come Clarity or Leeches or something) and that isn't in everyone's tastes. Man Made God = Best instrumental ever, but if someone had a singer in their band, I think he would feel left out.
But, I would love to see some Metal on Rock Band like Led Zeppelin, In Flames, Korn, Metallica (Given, but still :D), Disturbed, Mushroomhead, Stone Sour, etc.
For In Flames, there are also tons more great songs off of all their 8 albums (Soon to be 9 in 2008).

I could do without a Korn Pack and if you didn't notice the songs I decided to list for In Flames are all possible to play on the Rock Band drum set. I could have listed my favorite In Flames songs like most people would have but that would just be stupid as song like Jotun, Goliath's Disarm Their Davids, Scorn, etc, could not be played on the drum set.

Yeah, Harmonix needs to add the Metal - it was the one thing that made Guitar Hero 3 so fun. For every pro-metal post theres an anti-metal post, but thats just the thing - they left the metal out of the core game so they need to add some DLC to appease the fans that like it. People that don't aren't forced to buy it. I didn't buy the David Bowie Pack, most of the punk songs, or most of the singles for that matter. Just the ones I thought were good.
That being said... I miss pantera. A cover in the first Guitar Hero was a lonng time ago.
Pantera
Five Minutes Alone
Walk
Cemetary Gates
In Flames
Come Clarity
Clayman
Cloud Connected
Soilwork
Black Star Deceiver
Distance

To name a few.

Yea that Pantera Pack Would Be Cool and I'd like some more guitar driven In Flames Songs but I agree with metal packs being offered.
I don't understand why the people that listen to other genres are posting anti metal posts. They got what they wanted with the very mediocre setlist that you get from Rock Band out of the box. At least let us pay extra for some music we like that'll be challenging....
I've never played drums in my life but I can already 4 star half the songs in the game after 2 weeks of mild play.....

I suppose too much metal for this game would be a bad thing. It is appealing to the masses and (just about) every girl I know loves this game, but hates when I choose Blackened or Run to the Hills. Metal that would be accepttable would be more like "Cemetary Gates" (kinda) Judas Priest, Killswitch Engage (obviously only the clean vocal singles), Ozzy, hair metal (which sucks BTW), Kiss, Tool, Slayer is pushin it, Dream Theater (that'd be a good one!) and maybe a few lesser known bands like Clutch, Devin Townsend Band, or Porcupine Tree.
A Priest pack and a Dream Theater pack would be fantastic.

Well They Hate Those Songs Because The Vocals Suck Pretty Horribly...
Those recordings are so old and the vocal parts are hard to duplicate and I don't know anyone that can sing a Maiden song without strictly using falsetto so it's kind pointless to have in the game.
