I asked this in an existing older thread & was told a new thread would have been fine. I apologize, I'm new to the forum. I'm including my original post as well as the reply from HMXtronaut.

Bumping this thread due to a similar problem.

Would really appreciate it if a Harmonix rep. would address this, or at least anyone who has a definite solution.

I just bought Rock Band 2 for Wii 2 days ago on 10/13/09. Along with the game itself (game only), I bought 2 of the official RB2 Fender Stratocaster wireless guitars for Wii. If I'm not mistaken, these are the same ones that comes with the full set. I note the date of purchase to show that this equipment is obviously the most up-to-date.

Sorry if this is long, but I want to be thorough.

I've followed the steps to sync the guitar both on the included instructions and the ones given on this forum. Still have a problem.

I cannot get the guitar to sync by itself. One of the steps says to plug in the dongle, press/hold the guitar button till it flashes blue, then press both sync buttons. When I press/hold the guitar button, it never flashes blue, it's only solid blue.

Holding both sync buttons doesn't work. The guitar will not sync to Player 1 no matter what I do.

If I use a Wiimote, it will sync to Player 1. Then the guitar finally syncs, but not until the RB2 opening credits are done and you get to the 1st menu screen. And then the guitar syncs to Player 2.

I don't like this because when I begin to play, at least in Quick Play mode, it shows my game's nickname with a [2] behind it, obviously representing Player 2.

The only work-around I've found for this is to connect 2 Wiimotes and when the game reaches the 1st menu screen, remove the batteries from the Player 1 Wiimote then turn on the guitar so it assumes Player 1. This is a major pain and I doubt is the intended method to assign a guitar as Player 1.

So how do you get the guitar to connect as Player 1 without having to connect a Wiimote?

Why is my guitar not syncing at all (no matter what Player #) until the game reaches the 1st menu screen?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to have to return the game because it is fun. But if it's not working like it should, I will take it back. I haven't even opened the 2nd guitar yet, so I don't know how that will go. I don't have another player playing with me often, but wanted it just in case.

Our guitars sync on the first menu screen due to the fact that our wireless solution is not using the Wiimote to communicate with the console. It requires software support and functions outside of the Wii OS. You trade WiiMenu functionality to effectively knock 40 dollars off the total end-user price of our peripherals. (you don't need wiimotes to use them).

This functionality is expected, and the game itself assigns the player number, not the system.

edit: for the future, please don't necropost. Even though you had a similar issue to the one found in the thread, it was pretty outdated and a new post wouldn't have been terrible in this case.

So I understand the guitar won't sync until the RB2 menu appears. Great! At least I know something isn't wrong there.

But is it possible to sync the guitar to Player 1 without the work-around I described above? Let's say I had an entire set of 4 peripherals - drums, mic & 2 guitars. Since the Wiimote is assigned a player #, that only leaves 3 empty spots. One of the peripherals would be left out. Unless I removed the batteries from the Wiimote to let all 4 instruments sync (which seems like an unintended step).

No - in the instance of playing all 4 peripherals, the mic would be player one, since the wiimote you started the game with would go to the Vox player, since the mic doesn't have a way of negotiating the menus on it like the guitars and drums do. None of the instrumets would be left out. Vocals would be player 1, the two guitars and drums would fill in players 2-4. Why is this such a big deal to you? Having the guitar on player 2 does not affect the play of the game at all, the only thing is does is add the (#) after your name.

You won't be leaving one of the peripherals out, the mic is not assigned a player number. You use the Wiimote to get the singer in the game and select difficulty levels etc. Once the song starts you use the mic to sing or in my case clear the room.

Make sense?

EDIT ninja'd, nice one daemonknight

I understand. Thanks guys.

It was "such a big deal" to me because before now, I had only ever played RB on a friend's 360, so I never actually had full control of the game. I just found it odd I couldn't make the guitar Player 1 w/o removing batteries from the Wiimote and I thought something was wrong. I was thinking the guitar had to be Player 1 when it came time to create my own band & tour. I'm simply used to the old video game mindset that Player 1 is used to control most everything. I'm still learning the game, that's all.
