The new site - issues and the like

Hey everyone,

Welcome to the new site. We're still tracking a few bugs and server burps on our new live servers (you probably noticed yesterday) but our web team and IT are hard at work on fixing them up (my new least favorite numbers are 5, 0, and 4).

Right now - some of you have not gotten emails (even after checking your junk mail folder) and have gone on to click the lost password link to have it resent. This is currently disabled but will hopefully be fixed today. New user registration is not affected by this.

Some people have also reported difficulty linking their user ID to Windows Live ID. The most important thing you can do before attempting this is to clear your browser's cache and cookies and start fresh. That way you won't accidentally link your mom's Hotmail account to your user ID because she was on the computer right before you.

Also - do not type the word Google into Google or you can literally break the internet.

Just wanted to say that some of us will never receive emails. Assuming my memory is correct, and it usually is (at least since the 80s) email addresses where not originally required to create an account. Some of us chose not to enter an email address, think there would be no real reason for it. I never forget my passwords and I assume a service won't just change my password on me.

I tried emailing about this but it did not work so I set up a new account to post these comments. I would like to have my old account back. It's easy to prove it's my account because I can give the old password which I am sure is still stored somewhere.

Please let us know how we can get our accounts back.

I totally appreciate what every you can do, and I really wish I had a screen shot from when I set up my account. I am fairly certain that an email account was not required. I set up custom email accounts for each site like this (I own a couple domains so have plenty of email accounts to go around). In this case I never set one up and have the distinct recollection of almost setting one up but then seeing it was not required and choosing not to enter one.

If you can look at the Xero314 account and see if there is an email address attached (or something like none@ya.biz which I have been known to use) then I have not problem admitting I was wrong and I'll even make a public apology, but since it would be only the second time I have ever been wrong I'm guessing you are not going to find an email associated with that account.

But seriously thanks for looking into it and responding so quickly (if only your support email worked so fast).

For some reason when I tried to link my Xbox live gamertag (windows Live ID) to my account it linked someone named Chris Locke 117 instead of mine.


Edit: I finally got it to link to my own gamertag. I hope it linking to this other persons at first didn't screw theirs up.

With the 'showing up as someone else' bug, I think it's just for display. I was someone else until I clicked around a bit; suddenly I was me again. I had tried logging out (just because I don't want to impersonate anyone) but it wouldn't let me, for what it's worth.

Sorry if this has been addressed in other threads, but I was hoping someone could confirm whether or not we will be able to delete characters/bands that we already deleted on our consoles but for some reason still show up on the server.
Like many people with this problem, I want to be able to use my original band name on xbl but cannot because it says the name is taken even though it shows up under my gamertag on this site (and it is the band I already deleted).

It looks like the server is caching the main page, so whoever is the lucky one who makes a request for the front page is showing up as our username. As you noticed, clicking around further, the other pages aren't cached, so they appear correctly.

That's what it looks like to me, anyways.

I don't plan on deleting a bunch of rockers but it'd be nice if the ones I got rid of or had to remake didn't all show up. Not something serious but thought i'd point it out.

For me, the only problem I had is the aforementioned deleted characters still showing, along with the band I deleted as well. I thought maybe it just takes a while to process it, but I also renamed my existing characters, and their names have shown up as different on the site, yet the other characters are still there. I'm assuming it just takes longer to remove those characters from memory though.

The only other problem is, I deleted the band I was that the site pegged my name to because I wanted the band that I actually did all the BWT stuff in to be up there instead...yet it still doesn't show. Is that a 'you guys' thing, or is there something I can do to fix that?

If someone else who used the computer earlier that day logged into their hotmail account or something like that that is tied to a Windows Live ID then that is what it already thinks you are logged in as.

I tried that, and once I put my Windows live ID, It still says I don't have any rock band memory associated with my GT.

Yes, it's very weird, and lots of us are having this same problem. Doesn't matter if you clear cache, cookies, or use another machine, it's almost like the Gamertag doesn't have Rock Band data associated with it. But, we appear fine on the Rock Band Leaderboards correctly and the Gamertag email is what we're signing up with.

I just played Rock Band solo tour for a while as well as a few quick match score games online. When I try to link my account I get this message:

I cleared all my private data in FireFox and tried again and no matter what I get the same issue.

I double checked on my Xbox under My Account to make sure I had the right email address (Live ID). It's the same one I use to login to www.xbox.com as well.

Is there any plans to include career and individual song scores and rankings in the player profile pages? Because that's basically the only thing I was looking for in my profile.

Everything else (and you guys did put a lot of it) is, I'm sad to say, just useless fluff to me... very nice fluff but it's just not my thing.

Also, if it's technically possible, I would have liked to see % hit and note streaks along with the leaderboard scores.

i finally got 'my' band started to jam today and changed its members (apart from me as the leader of course), but the site has not 'refreshed' its info on it (band name is 'See Life Manifest'), it lists (my) band as not played any songs, and has the 'old' band roster, and no score or fans. When does the site (if ever) gets its info from the game.. and refresh this info?

Except for the ability to compare your scores to other people's. I agree some kind of creation of online bands would be cool, I don't know how possible it is though. And especially without a band world tour online feature, it doesn't seem very relevant to me.

You are probably trying to look at forum profiles? That won't work.

The integration between the forums and the rest of the community site is really very weak. Click the links in my signature and see if those work for you. One of them is my rocker profile, and another is the profile for one of my bands.

How about the forum issues?

I'm using firefox and for some reason I have to constantly click links twice to get them to register. The quick reply dosent work. it's just a useless windo at the bottom of the screen that tells me to click reply to use quick reply and all that does is open the full reply. The log in screen requires me to tap the mouse on the login button in order to frame-advance the animating logo before it will actually allow me to login.

The site does not update properly, stats are out of date, and leaderboards don't work. The band pages do not update stats or band information. I changed band members, added a logo, and changed the motto and none of it changed. Also, Fan # has not changed. The site is basically a dud. This needs to be fixed, now.

Also tool would probably be some good dlc since they are all pretty damn good at their instruments, especially the drums. Any updates on the state of the community site? I've been looking forward to the photo-creator and merchandising options (figurines of your characters, band merch, etc). for a while now. I know that these things weren't available at the new site's launch, but I'm wondering if anyone knows about the status of these features. As much as I appreciate Harmonix and their hard work on this site, I'm really waiting for the whole thing to reach its full potential. I know alot of people are more wrapped up in the whole PS3 cotroller debate, but I'd love the community to start making a bit more noise about this as well. (Then again, I own an X-Box, so I don't have much room to talk about that).

A few suggestions for the community site:

-Instead of showing Cash on the profile page, show career overall rank, or both.
-Be able to access ranks by song as well.
-Ability to do a "head to head" comparison (like warhawk.com's stat page) with any player, and hopefully we can compare both the career overall & song by song.

-Right now the overall career leaderboard isn't fair because some people buy all the DLCs and play all of them. They don't have to be good to be the top of the board. I suggest using the average score per song to determine who really is the king/queen.

I've been trying to log in since before Christmas, and it doesn't recognize my password (even though I know it's correct.) I try to use the password retrieval system, yet I never receive any e-mail from you guys at all (no, not even in my spam filter box.)

The e-mail address is correct, because when I tried to create this account just to post, it already told me my address was already registers (which is why I had to make this new one.)

I know you guys have made some funky changes on your site recently, maybe that screwed up my password? When should the retrieval be fixed? :(

I'm having the same problems as MistressMissy. Clicking on your links didn't work for me.

When I'm in the forum it says I'm logged in as army_of_me, and of course I can post and all that, but if I try to view another person's forum profile it says I "don't have permission". It's been like that ever since the changeover.

Is everyone not having this same problem? Is your Rocker profile the same as the Forum profile?

Is there a place to put suggestions for the RB website? Anyways, I'm going to put a suggestion right here, and you can tell me what you think.

I think it would be cool if your Band profile showed a list of all the people you played against online, and what the scores were and who won and all that. It would be a great way for people to start meeting and talking to other bands on the website.

Ooh, you could add that to personal band pages and to the Leaderboards. Show which person is the best in terms of win/lose ratios. It could show how many online songs they've played, how many they won, how many they lost, and the average and/or percentage of whatever their win/lose scores are. And it could also show what their scores and stars were of each individual song, and their rank could possibly incorporate how much they won or lost into it. So that if you lost to someone, but just barely, it won't hurt your rating as bad, but if you really got stomped by that person, it'll hurt your rating more. Oh, and what if your rating falls faster if you got beat by a person with a lower win rating than you, and vice versa? If you guys incorporate all that stuff into the website, you should also make it so that you can see the person's rating in the game before you duel them.

I know I have a lot of ideas in one post, but they just kept coming, and I really think these are good ideas. I hope to see something like it in the near-future.

And I hope someone tells me what they think of my ideas, hopefully a developer, but anyone's opinions would be cool

My issue doesn't happen on every visit, but most of the time it does.

my account is linked, no problem there. the problem is logging in and staying logged in long enough to view the forums. most of the time it takes 10-15 minutes to load the forum and by then i am logged out. If i click the log in button it sends me out to my "community" page and i hit submit. i then get sent to the main home page and it loads the flash( the original website from before the games release). If hitting submit doesn't do that then it just reloads that same page over and over again.
If i manage to see the forums and still remain logged in i lose it when i click a thread.

I have actually clicked the forums got up and got dressed, went out to the store and gassed up my car and picked up a few things maybe a 15 minute trip out. get home and the forums haven't loaded.

i am on high speed cable and no other forums or sites show any of these problems. i have multiple spyware and virus scanners that run daily.

So when will the new features appear in the Band profile? (if there are new features) I thought there were going to be pictures of band members. Hopefully, each band member will have a picture instead of being represented by an instrument icon.

Hello there! I have never had the problem with getting logged in like others, old forum or new. Just one issue.

Obviously, the linking went smoothly too (everytime I try redo it anyway), only I'd end up with this message:-

"This gamertag does not have any Rock Band data associated with it. Please try again. If you continue to have problems, please read the detailed instructions on the Link to Game page."

Well, I am using the same gamertag 'sadenshi' as my username at this forum, though the gamertag was Sthise before. Hopefully someone will figure this out for me real soon!

What I want to know (since no one has answered my question yet) is what features will be coming to this "new site". We have a "Rockers" page and a "Bands" page, but both leave a lot to be desired. Under my band profile, none of my bandmates links work. (just directs me to my own personal rocker profile) I reeeeeally want pictures of my band. (I really dont want to take pictures of my TV set just to get a picture of my bandmates) The more info the band profile reflects the bands stats/progress in the game, the better.

I took pictures of my guys to put it on my page. I agree with you though. It should happen in game.

Also, why does it say how much money my various characters have? I just bought those ridiculous rings that cost 25k. My character's "score" just went from ~25k to 50. Did my character become awful overnight? It should be total points and not money.

Finally, I had people come over to play with my sister and they made some stupid characters. I deleted them but they are still there on my band list. If it updates whenever I beat a song it should get rid of characters that aren't on my system anymore.

Sorry if this has been addressed in other threads, but I was hoping someone could confirm whether or not we will be able to delete characters/bands that we already deleted on our consoles but for some reason still show up on the server.
Like many people with this problem, I want to be able to use my original band name on xbl but cannot because it says the name is taken even though it shows up under my gamertag on this site (and it is the band I already deleted).

I don't know if I'm posting this in the right thread... But I'm having issues with the Rockband site. I think it might have something to do with the top animated header. I'm using Firefox, latest version and whenever I'm on this website, it sucks up my CPU (it takes about 80% of my CPU). And when I turn down the quality of the flash banner, it goes down to about 30.

Would it be in any way possible to give the option to turn off the animation? Honestly, I think it's very pretty and all, but I hate it when I surf this site and my computer is acting slow :(

The new site setup is GREAT! but....
The leaderboard on the right hand side shows the bands by total score. Thats just a stat that shows who plays the game more.
I would like to see top bands by the number of fans they have. I wont be on the list any time soon but it seems like a better way to compare bands to me.

Better yet if you could show both kinds of top scores (to boxes; by number of fans and the other by total score) that would be amazing.

Anyway... Great work on the site and keep it up.

No offense JR, but are you friggin' serious? Or at least joking, right? Total fans obviously means you play more/have the time to hit up gig after gig. Total score means your band is the best of the best, when it comes to acing songs. This may require you to "play more" in the long run, but it's far more impressive than fans. I like the leaderboards the way they are; they sum up which bands have more skill than others... not which bands get more DVD offers, in-game, and have the time to play every gig.

Thought about it, and I guess you have somewhat of a point, JR. It's pretty dumb that a 02-man band [let's say, guitar and bass] can dual-FC Green Grass & High Tides, yet not even show up on the leaderboards if a 04-man band fumbles through it. There should be a section for score and fans, definitely. Or separate boards for 02 person bands, 03 persons bands, etc.

For the Hamonix Team (or anybody who have the answer):
Back when you announced the community, there were speakings of a fuction where you could download a character of the game to make images files and products using theses images on the RockBand Forum and the RockBand Store. Is this fuctions is still work in progress or it's cancelled or simply never existed and that I'm turning crazy? Also, maybe the Interview has been mistranslated because I remembered reading it in French.

Is anyone else getting Gateway timeout errors when uploading pictures? I tried to upload an avatar (36k) and a picture to the rocker profile and both times got Gateway errors. Now, instead of the default pic, there's a X where the image cannot be displayed.

The scores on the website haven't updated in a long time, my score on here is like 2,000,000 points behind where I actually stand right now. The scores retrieved from the server onto my PS3 though was working quite well and smoothly until yesterday night. Hasn't updated since, it's really beginning to annoy me. All hail to the Mozilla users ! I got fired (partially) from a tech job for installing Mozilla on client's computers :p
I thought maybe that things were hella-slow due to the heavy traffic coming to the site on a minute by minute basis, but if you guys are aware of the probs, cool :D

To detract from the slowness of the pages, I just wheel click (in Mozilla) all the threads I want to read and open them all up in tabs, then by the time I am done with one thread, all the others have loaded.

Try clearing your cookies. There's a known bug where the main page will display the same error message over and over again even if it's not the same error (or even if an error hasn't even occurred).

If you want this, check out rockband.scorehero.com, me and my brother are the only good rock band players where we live, so even though we are around top 20 in fans, our scores according to rock band leaderboards are horrible, but scorehero has all the options you would want for score tracking.

You know how people buy expensive homes in a subdivision where the developer says, "and over there will be the clubhouse/gym/inground pool...", yet when the homes are sold they just take their profits and move on to the next one?

Well, its beginning to feel that way concerning this website. It has easily been 3 WEEKS since the latest leaderboard update, and there really is NO excuse for that.

The webmasters should be drawn and quartered. Then fired.

It is somewhat comforting that the ingame leaderboards keep the updated scores...I have seen this issue raised many times on these boards, and yet no tech person has yet to comment, or apologize for the delays that I can see.
I am connected online for many hours a day so the system has had LOTS of time to update, and up until about 3 weeks ago the boards refreshed without incident...so, what has changed?
Maybe we should try to take a count of how many players are having this issue?
I'll start and just add the next number to your name and maybe we'll get someones attention...

I wanted to comment on the readability of the thread pages. It's not so good. Having a long list of thread titles in bold isn't easy on the eyes. I think it would be a better idea to have the unread threads in regular text and maybe the ones that the user has already viewed in bold.

Also, there could be more contrast between the yellowish text and the maroon background. I think you could darken that background some or lighten the text, maybe both, and that would help. Right now the site strains my eyes after viewing it for too long.

Go to http://www.mozilla.com (which is also in your Bookmarks under "Firefox and Mozilla Links") and click "Add-ons" in the navigation pane on the top of the page. Now click "Extensions" in the navigation pane to the left of the page. Now that you are on the Extensions page you can use the Search bar at the top of the page to search for IE Tab. In the results of the search the particular Extension I am talking about is the second choice on the list: Name - IE Tab, Authors - PCMan (Hong Jen Yee), yuoo2k.

Click this Extension and then click the "Install Now" button. After you restart Firefox the new Extension will be enabled. If you need more detailed instructions on how to use it than I have already provided visit the authors' website: http://ietab.mozdev.org.

Hopefully that helps.

Hi there, I have a little problem. I own Rock Band for the PS3 and I've been trying to link my account here but I keep getting this error:

* One or both of the required fields contains incorrect information.
* You must enter a valid PlayStation® Network ID and Website Code to link your to PlayStation® 3.

Ive already checked both and I'm pretty positive they are correct. I've also tried it in both Firefox and Internet Explorer and have cleared my cookies. I remember I had the same problem with Resistance Fall of Man and it eventually worked. (I think I cleared my cookies)

When I'm playing Rock Band I am logged in most of the time so I don't think its that either. Has anyone had this problem before?

same thing here, I've had the game for over a week and have not been able to link my account. as far as I can tell it's a server problem. The same thing happened on GH3 when it first came out but that was due to the severs getting dumped on and not being able to handle the load, but this is different this game has been out for a while so that should not be an issue. I have talked to a couple of people who have had the game for a while and they have not been able to update their scores so it must be a system wide thing for PS3 users.
I'll tell you with the guitar compatibility issues and now this I'm beginning to think Harmonix doesn't give a crap about PS3 owners.

The flash animation at the top of the page is a bit of a bandwidth hog. A lot of us will open up threads or paged in multiple tabs, and when each is running the flash animation, it bogs down the browser. I say axe it entirely, and the site will run and load faster for us.

Might I make a suggestion.

How about we split the forum "Rock band" in two.

We leave it called "Rock band" and there would be "The place to talk about the game"

And in another forum we could call whatever you want maybe "Game features" that would be the place to talk about "features for the game." And it would be a DLC free place.

I think it's necessary, I personally think some of the DLC talks are good and intelligent. But they are abundant and features rarely even have the chance to be discussed because there are so many posts about DLC and other of the like that it gets deluded and lost in the mix of things.

Might I make a suggestion.

How about we split the forum "Rock band" in two.

We leave it called "Rock band" and there would be "The place to talk about the game"

And in another forum we could call whatever you want maybe "Game features" that would be the place to talk about "features for the game." And it would be a DLC free place.

I think it's necessary, I personally think some of the DLC talks are good and intelligent. But they are abundant and features rarely even have the chance to be discussed because there are so many posts about DLC and other of the like that it gets deluded and lost in the mix of things.

I think it would just be a better idea than mixing the two together.

The PS3 leaderboards (not in-game, the ones on the website) have been broken for some time. They would just give plain database errors for awhile, and now they're stuck on showing scores a couple of weeks old.

well seeing how its a high rated game, really popular and they have already made tones of money off this game... by getting big band names like the ones ive mentioned... will probably even attract more players/fans to buying the game and seeing how u have to pay to get those songs onto your game, they will make money when people buy the songs.... 2.99 a song x 500,000 gamers??? ... or even more, how ever many people got this game.. u do the math. my point is... would u buy those songs??

That's because whenever I try to save changes to it I get the "200 character max" error and get booted back to the edit screen.

You're probably getting the "200 character max" error because you have nearly 400 characters in your signature!!!

T-hybrid currently has an big signature (440+ characters) that was created before the limit was introduced. He/she is now attempting to edit it, saving one that is well under 200. Even though the new signature is less than 200, he/she gets an error and is unable to save it. That is why you still see the old, large signature.

Sounds like a pretty accurate description to me. And when one poster pointed out my original sig size, I recognized the lack of clarity and did so.

I'm guessing you only saw the second post, and rather than look back a few to get context you just jumped at the chance to tear into somebody.

Thankfully whoever runs the boards actually read the rest of the discussion and resolved the issue (as you can see by my new signature which must fit below the limit...even though I didn't actually confirm the count)

Comming from a Web/Graphic Designer stand point. I think the site could use a better nave. Having a static one on the left is kina dull comming from playing the game. The interface of the game looks better then the site honestly. I thought that at least some motion elemts from the game interface would be used. It's still not a bad site though. Just a thought I have had for a while.
