One would think that once bands catch on to the popularity of RockBand and the Downloadable Content System that we will start seeing better releases.

Today, bands make a majority of the revenue on merchandise and tours. CD/DVD revenue must be very poor due to Piracy.

Now with the DLC and RockBand I'm sure people have spent more money in one evening on music then they have spent over the last 10 years music CDs.

Once this "new generation" of interactive music starts catching on Im sure (and Hoping) Bands will be lining up to get a track or two into RB.

Thats not really true. Bands have typically always made more money on merch & touring since THEY make the money directly unlike CDs where the record label makes a large majority of the money. Most bands only make a fraction of the cost off of each CD.

But I don't disagree that I think bands will see this as a new source of revenue and hopefully we'll see more and more DLC coming in.

don't you think this statement is just a little overboard? even if you bought everything so far, it's only like $25 of DLC. so you're saying most people have not bought 2 CD's in the past ten years?

personally, i still buy about 10-15 CD's a year.

This point makes alot of sense. There's alot of money to be made by bands going this route.

Not to mention it's a great way to reach a large diverse audience.

No I dont think so. I personal have only bought one CD over the last 10 years "St anger" - by metallica, and as much of a fan of this group I am, I was disgusted that they would have actually marketed this and allow people to buy it.

Im assuming you havent heared of things like Bittorent and other Free Peer to Peer applications. LOL. I find this day and age bands are too rushed to release garbage where only 1 to 2 tracks are actually quality material and the remaining 10-15 are filler. So why pay $20 for 2 tracks you actually want on the disc?
