Looking at the prices at GameStop, I can't seeing me affording all of the controllers. So in Rock Band, do you need all of the controllers to unlock all the songs, venues, characters, and extras? That would suck if I see my favorite song on the drum set list but I only had a guitar controller

I have 5 guitars, 2 basses, one acoustic drum kit, one electric drum kit, 2 PAs, 3 amps, and a gigantic multi effects pedal. Combining music and video games for me - they deserve my $200-$300 for their plastic toy guitars

Most likely, what will happen is that if you don't have the correct controller you can use a PS3 controller to do different instruments. Guitar Hero allowed for this.

If it is a forced deal to get all the instruments and is over 200$ the game will flop, no matter how amazingly awesome it is.

However, I don't think they will do that *cough cough*, as long as it's hopefully within the range of 140 max, and there's options (which instrument you want) it should be fine. I'm sure they are thinking smartly about this and everything will be cool

but please, no 40$ charge for a freaking mic, unless its the most godly microphone ever. most ps3 and especially 360 owners already have them, please, PLEASE do not make it a necessity to buy a specific one. that will piss a lot of people off and add what would be an unnecessary charge on top of an already expensive (most likely) game

My plan is to make my Sister buy the mic and my brother buy the drums. All i'll need is the game and guitar... and a ps3 :-S
the GS prices have allready been debunked by sean.
No exact pricing structure has been announced yet. Although I have the feeling it will nt be cheap. I think you do are not aquired to get all instruments. You pick what you *prefer to play. and then go online *( or invite *in yout home) other people and play 2gether.

While I agree that any total package above $200 will have a very hard time being vastly popular (after all, most guitar hero fans complained about paying $70-$80 for a game [I'm saying MOST - that probably does not apply to the people who are in this forum as we are all discussing a game that has JUST been announced, I don't believe we represent the general gaming populace])

The flip side though is that i don't see how they can release decent quality controllers for under 200 while still covering all the licensing fees and the cost of the software...

Quite the conundrum.

Absolutely terrible. If I'm going to be using a mic (potentially uploading the resulting jam session to the server for others to view, assuming that they include that feature), I want my voice to sound like my voice, not the cheap, through-the-speaker sound that the headset produces.

Definitely, though, price is a big deal. Maybe $20 tops for microphone. Seriously.

To clarify and provide some facts:
* You can't just use a regular game controller instead of a guitar or drum set. Guitar Hero does that; Rock Band does not.
* Just about any USB microphone will work for vocals, but I've tested a few on the 360 that didn't work, so YMMV.
* For the 360, a Guitar Hero 2 (not 3) xplorer works fine.
* You don't need all the controllers to unlock things. ONE tour through solo mode in Medium on any of the three instruments will do it.

Well, I'd say it's depending on the number of people playing and the mode you want to play.
Every song is available for every instrument, but if you have more than one person playing for something like the Band World Tour in Multiplayer, then you will need more instruments.
