View Full Version : Beatles guitars - hard to find?

Went shopping for the Rickenbacker yesterday (I've read that the Gretch might be a bit better, but I had a Rick at one time, so nostalgia wins).
I was looking for the Wii versions. Tried one Best Buy, 3 Wally worlds and one Target. BB had none, Target had a couple of Gretches and 1 Rick but only for the Xbox. Wal-Mart had one of 2 Gretches for each system, but no Ricks. Finally found one at Gamestop, they had one more Wii and 1 PS3 version left in stock. They also still had i or 2 of the Gretch guitars for all systems in stock.
Glad I found the Rick, but am definitely going to prioritize getting a Gretch, before they get short in supply as well. Guess some motorcyle items on my list will have to wait a bit longer :D
Anyone else notice them getting harder to find?

Yeah they are getting much harder to find. I'm in Canada and I'm lucky I got my PS3 Rickenbacker last week from Best Buy's online sale where it was $69.95 instead of $99.99. Sold out pretty quickly though, especially the Gretsch.

69 bucks!
Thats a great buy man, congrats.
They are certainly in limited supply at most places.
Frys Electronics seems to have quite a stockpile of the Ricks as well as the LE bundles. Well in So Cal at least.
I suspect we will see a huge refreshing on inventory for Christmas sales.
I also suspect we may even see the Hofner as a stand alone soon.
Thats just a WAG based on nothing but a gut feeling.

That's my guess, also. The cost of tooling for plastic items is expensive, can't see them not making more of the Hofner and offering the it by itself. Same, most likely, for the other 2, as well.
My original post was regarding not seeing too many of the LE sets and the 2 guitars right now. I guess I thought they wouldn't start getting scarce until into Nov., at least.

I gave up looking after days and days of visiting different stores (in Canada) that had lots of xbox and wii guitars but no ps3 ones (at least no Gretsch).
So I ordered one on Amazon and got it in 4-5 days.

In Ottawa, it's really not in shortage. Every video game store, there's the Beatles Rockband. The guitars, the game itself, and the limited edition.

yea well we wont be seeing very many i read somewhere that Harmonix has stopped producing the Beatles stuff. at least for the limited edition set but they might of stopped producing the guitars as well. so prices will incline as the supply gets shorter

Over here in Holland we have a website called www.bol.com
I don't know if they ship overseas but they've got a lot off guitars!

Yeah, I'd love to have the Gretsch for my PS3, but since I rarely have anyone over to play, I can't justify $100. Craigslist has plenty of people selling Rock Band 2, but not just the guitar controller alone.

I didn't buy a system but I was leaning toward the Wii. I know the medley drawback but overall I like the interactive games of the Wii and it's not like they don't have all the songs on Abbey Road or something. But that's my problem. I still need the game system. I spent my money on the remastered CDs and the Wii bundle along with a Gretsch guitar holding off on going crazy and buying the Rickenbacher as well. I figure to pick that up early in the holiday shopping season somewhere. Since I liked the look of the Gretsch better I went with that and the Hofner was already in the bundle I bought. I then looked on-line and figured out (duh!) you can only use two guitars at once anyway so I am set to go as soon as I buy and connect a Wii to my TV. LOL But I do want the Rickenbacher just because it's fun and I want to save the Hofner from rough hands as much as possible. I may even buy a Fender Strat for RB2 and paint it to look like George's Magical Mystery Tour Guitar. That would be great if they made either a fender strat like that or a skin to place onto your fender strat.

The OCD in me made me post here because the guy above me's name is too long and it screwed up the Beatles page.

This afternoon my local Best Buy in suburban Philly had LE sets and a handful of both guitars for XBox and Wii, nothing but a couple of Gretsch's for PS on display.
