View Full Version : The Peer Review Process - Question

Okay, I didn't see this addressed anywhere so I am asking. I understand song approval into the RB Music Store will be based upon the peer review process. At what member percentage does that require? Is it 100% of the members have to agree on your song? I mean if there are 3000 members and 1 member doesn't agree to release your song to the world, does that prevent your song from acceptance?

No, it doesn't work like that. Each song requires a certain number of positive reviews. The exact number varies, because different parts of the song have different requirements.

For example, if you have a song with English and Spanish lyrics, each language requires a set number of reviewers. So you might have 200 people give it positive reviews in English, but you would still be stuck at 98% until you got the Spanish reviewers to approve.

Similarly, someone marking the song as having Nazi propaganda in it will give it a big negative vote, whereas someone who disagrees with your difficulty rating by 1 dot will only give it a very small negative vote.

As the song moves through Peer Review, there is a percentage complete that we display for each song to keep people informed about it's progress.

I like the sound of that. Is there any news on when the open beta will start? I know "it's ready when it's ready", but is that any time soon?

okay, sounds good. I'd just hate to see where one person might have the almighty power to prevent a song from passing the process. I think if the members all treat others with respect and simply evaluate material based upon playability and its value to the community, it will be fair. I mean, there is material on RB that I don't particularly care for, but I realize many people like many different genres, and that's what it should be about. So, let's all, in the spirit of fairness, respect each other and HELP each other get the most out of this network. It's a great idea.

I have this wholly unfounded fear that one reviewer will think it's a 3 star guitar part, and another reviewer will think it's a 2 star guitar part, and no matter where I put it, one party (and his horde of followers) will be unhappy and his negative vote will keep my song out. That is the sort of crap my poor mind comes up with :)

yes, we have been told it's soon. HMX must be feeling the pressure somewhere because their publicly announced date of the store being available (November) does fast approach. I have reached a very peaceful zen feeling regarding the open beta. I highly recommend it.

How are the "peers" chosen?

I wonder simply because I would love to hear even more diversity in the music in the game. I'm the type to play Lesley Roy and Children of Bodom in the same set list. so, I wonder who makes up the peer review group and can a song lose out on being a part of RBN just because of genre bias.

Anyone who is a member of the Creators Club (and has therefore paid their XNA and XBL dues). And no, if people start failing songs for wrong reasons, they will end up very sorry for doing that.

Because of me. Remember me? I'm the one with the ban hammer.

Looks like I'm going to have to rededicate my prayer shrine and book a weekly slot on the street corner.

That, or just be a model member of the peer community. I haven't decided yet.
