View Full Version : Why are you buying LRB?

Even though HMX wanted to gear this towards kids of a younger age, i know plenty of us are just looking to export it and nothing more. I am one of those people that is looking for some cheap DLC and intend to throw the game on ebay as soon as the export is done. So are you buying the game for the export, for the "kid friendly atmosphere" it will put out, or both?
If you like the songs, that goes under export, if you like lego games, that goes under kid friendly, if youre buying it just to have it and play it, both? I also meant to put a "I'm not" option but i accidentally pressed submit without reading what i put down and further revisions, sorry for the confusion and cruddy poll everybody.
The both option is now considered an other option, if you pick it post why.

I'll be the honest one here and say Im gonig to rent it hopeing for a code, and if not then ill play it just to enjoy it. I dont think its worth the buy for me but I do want to play alot of the songs.
So yeah thats just me, i'll be honest and hope I can get the export code

Because it seems to be the only way to get any more hair metal in this game.

Its just a rent for me, since I'm on the Wii and we're not up to exportability yet. My main reason for buying it would simply be the setlist. I'm not a big fan of most of the stuff, but Bon Jovi, Foo Fighters, Ghostbusters, and JIMI HENDRIX are too good to miss out on

I actually see it as expensive DLC considering the limited number of songs that are actually interesting. I'll probably wait and hope for a price drop, or for those songs to start showing up as DLC (you never know).
I have no interest whatsoever in the game itself. It seems pointless to me.

You forgot to add an important choice in the poll: I'm buying it because Lego is awesome.
It's been awesome for decades (and for all ages with imagination). It's one of the greatest and most perfect toys the human race has ever invented. It never gets old. I played with it as a child, I played it with my nieces and nephews, and it has never let us down.
Plus, the Lego Star Wars and Indy games are amazing and hilarious.
Anyone who thinks Lego is just for kids--For crying out loud, go buy some Lego and build something! :)
So, I voted "Both."

I'll do it for the exports. There are a bunch of cool songs in there. I doubt those codes are available for rental. Unless the stores a dumb enough the include the originl booklet witht the rentals.

So you're just buying the game because it is lego, no interest in the songs or anything? I doubt many people that aren't interested in Rock band will pick this game up that aren't doing it for their kids. I didn't seem that as a logical choice.

Where's the "It's ****ing Legos playing instruments to awesome music in a combination of two of the best game series ever... WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?" option?
there's a lot of songs i like but i plan to actually play them through the actual game a lot too . i won't be ditching the game right away after export.

10-29-2009, 10:22 PM
I'm buying it to play with my nephews. They are in love with the idea of rock band but they aren't allowed to play it due to the T rating. I'm really not interested in the import.

10-29-2009, 10:23 PM
Where's the options for "Because there'll be some new gameplay, and I just want to have some fun trying it out"?
I mean, export is cool and all, and being kid-friendly is great. But, building your own rock pad with Lego bricks? Blowing up Lego buildings if you play well? That just sounds like it'll be a really good laugh (even before a drink or two :-) )
ig0tTouReTTes
10-29-2009, 10:26 PM
Ok yes i get it i ****ed up the poll, i wasnt about to put 6 or 7 options!
Jeez who knew grown men and women actually enjoyed legos and specifics these days:rolleyes:

Good point: I forgot to mention that I do really like the track list. But no exporting for me (Wii). If I didn't like most of the songs, I would have passed. The combination of the fun, upbeat music (Crocodile Rock! I Want You Back!) and the goofy, imaginative world of Lego equals a must-buy for me. In the end, the track list is most important.

Both.
It'll be fun for my 7-year old, and the export will be fun with my regular RB platform.

They need a Bionicle patch.... how is that for asking for something before the game even comes out?
I want an all Bionicle Band! er..... for my kid.... yeah... thats it....
Jdurgit
10-29-2009, 10:52 PM
I'm not, I'll use my friend's copy and hope I can export it, too.
Does he plan on exporting it? If he does, your method won't work. The code on the manual can only be used ONCE, then it is permanently invalid. So you won't be able to use it if he does, or if you do it first before telling him, then you're not too nice of a friend. :p :D
I'm getting it for the following reasons:
-Looks cool being able to play songs as Legos, and I loved Legos as a kid.
-While I love RB2, I do need something new and refreshing every now and then and this game looks like it.
-The Final Countdown
-Jimi Hendrix
-Summer of '69
-Two Princes
-Bon Jovi
etc. etc. etc.

There are many songs that I want that are in this game but Final Countdown/You Give Love A Bad Name/ Summer of 69 are worth the price themselves. We are getting hairmetal and if I have to pay 50 buck to get a few songs, damn it Im gonna do it!!

I actually like almost all of the tracklist (more than any other music game tracklist in the last 2 years - I like pop more than the popular metal subgenres*). I plan on playing it for itself (I own all the Lego games, I find them fun), and for the export of music to RB2.

10-30-2009, 01:03 AM
4 bandmates splitting a 50 dollar game (which one of my friends will get with an employee discount, effectively canceling out the cost of the export) = 15 dollars to get 45 songs. Also, we'll then sell the disc to gamestop or something and get at least 20 of that back.
I have no interest in the game, only the songs.

1. Because I'm a Rock Band whore. XD
2. I LOVE the setlist... I reserved it WAY before exportability was confirmed, and still would have bought it if it WASN'T exportable.
Seriously, though, the fact that it is exportable made it, like, 20 million times more awesome to me. :D

You forgot to add an important choice in the poll: I'm buying it because Lego is awesome.
Anyone who thinks Lego is just for kids--For crying out loud, go buy some Lego and build something! :)
A few weeks ago Toys R Us was having a 15% off sale on LEGO products, so I went and spent $160 on a pirate ship and castle. My girlfriend and I spent about 5-6 hours putting them both together. It was awesome great fun and I tell everyone who comes by "Hey look at this badass pirate ship we built!!"
That said I won't be buying the game because LEGO or not, I don't see the value there. I'd be willing to spend the $16 or so to cover a rental and export, but there's only a handful of songs I actually want to play and $60 is far too steep.

I am buying it for the tunes and the fun, as all my other Lego games are fun and this one should be to. :)
And when done playing with all the novelty fun things i will then proberly export it into RB, but i ca nsee me going back to it later on as well when i want to experiance the fun features of it again

10-30-2009, 06:29 AM
I'll probably pick it up after it's been around a while and seen a price drop (or snag one of the inevitable hundreds of used copies). The setlist is too short to warrant a new purchase when there's so much coming out in the next few months (GoW, Heavy Rain, Bioshock, etc...) My RB budget is best spent on DLC.

10-30-2009, 06:45 AM
The songs look great (especially my hero, Elton John!!) and the Lego-based game sounds like fun. I don't have any kids but it would be nice to have for when friends bring their kids over. I haven't played any other Lego games because as my friends tell me, we don't have an XBox, we have a Rock Band Box. :D

10-30-2009, 07:05 AM
I plan on picking it up and playing thru it to see what it's like, and then when i've played thru all the songs in LRB at least once (and maybe some of the other DLC) I'll be exporting them...

This is a rental for me just like the Beatles. If I can down load the songs then cool, if not I'll wait for a price drop. With the great DLC lately I really don't care about too many of the songs on the disk. There are a few but not $50 worth.

The Export. I will treat Lego Rock Band the same way I treated AC/DC. Export the tracks and probably never touch it again. Don't have any kids.
HeXcoda
10-30-2009, 11:41 AM
Export, but I also want to play the game itself. Sure, it's aimed at kids, but when I was younger I had enough Lego to construct a vast and terrible plastic army capable of knocking over a small third world country. I love Lego. And RB+Lego should be a fun experience on its own. When I finish with that, I'll still have the songs in my main RB2 game, too! Win-win.

10-30-2009, 11:53 AM
I'm buying it for my birthday. (I'll hand it to my spouse..as a give-this-to-me present.) Maybe my kids will be more interested in shredding with me; seeing as how they DO enjoy playing the indiana jones lego game on the wii...
whalercanes
10-30-2009, 11:54 AM
I'm getting this because it's gonna be awesome. I'll probably wind up playing this more than RB2 depending on how much DLC is approved. Me and my son love playing all the lego games.
And we can't wait for Indy 2 in a couple weeks!
T-Hybrid
10-30-2009, 12:13 PM
I have reasons not on the poll.
1) Wanting to see my band Tiger Uppercut in LEGO form.
2) Fun setlist.
3) Ability to play some of my harder songs on Expert without worrying about failing. ;)
4) Moar Achievements.
Zidane
10-30-2009, 12:20 PM
If there was a Queen option I would pick that.
White_PawZ
10-30-2009, 12:22 PM
for me, its the setlist....
More Tom Petty, David Bowie, and Queen, the RB debut of Elton John, Europe, and Jimi Hendrix sell the game for me. Plus more Bon Jovi!
On top of that, there are a bunch of songs that you don't realize you actually know until you start singing them, like "In Too Deep," "Accidently In Love," and "Two Princes."
Then there's "Kung Fu Fighting" and "Ghostbusters."
So I'll probably play the actual LEGO game a bit, then export. I think I'll also play a 12 song concert using LEGO Queen.
KBelanger
10-30-2009, 12:25 PM
There are enough good songs in the setlist to justify a buy and export for me.
Ospero
10-30-2009, 12:25 PM
I picked Both. I like the setlist, and am looking forward to adding this to my RB library, but from what I've heard about the game itself, it might actually be fun to play as well. I've heard so many good things about the other Lego tie-in titles (Star Wars, Indy) that I'm willing to suspend my disbelief here, as it were.
And by the way, Walking on Sunshine for the win. Now we just need Love Shine a Light to make the Katrina and the Waves - All the Hits pack. :D

I have no interest whatsoever in the game itself. It seems pointless to me.
I somewhat fall into this camp. I do love a lot of the setlist (way better than the DLC of the last 6 months for me, excluding Queen), but I don't NEED it right now. If the songs were launch day DLC, then maybe I'd start picking up my favorites.
As it stands, I have Forza 3, my existing RB library (which is still awesome!), and ODST Firefights and NCAA Football 10 online dynasties with friends to keep me occupied through the holidays...then it really gets deep. Mass Effect 2 and Bioshock 2 hit in Q1 2010, wow! It's a good time to be a gamer.
LRB - it's a fine product/concept, but it's not on that same level for me personally. If I had kids around to indoctrinate into RB, then perhaps it would be a release day purchase. :)

My main interest was for the export. After seeing the setlist, I was back on the fence, as a good portion of it is stuff I actively hate (although the 20ish songs I like are songs I'm dying to play in RB). But, after further review, the kid friendly nature combined with the DLC compatibility and RB export made this a no brainer. Plus, who can resist Lego Queen?

I get bored of Rock Band 2 really easy these days... i cant wait to play Lego Rock Band as its the same awesome party friendly gameplay but with cosmetic make over and different in enough subtle ways to justify me actually wanting to get the game for the game itself - the export is a bonus which will be used once ive had my fill of the game.
This to me is more of a Rock Band Britian Track Pack given how many songs are from our shores and weve been long overdue something of a evening the odds against hundreds and hundreds of American bands already on the platform.
I now just wish i knew what the definitave release date for Scotland is... ive seen a couple of different ones so ill guess i shall just have to wait and see (and pray it doesnt come out the same week as Left 4 Dead 2 does)

That would be very cool. My current wallpaper is a RB2 pic of my band, I'd love to have a Lego version too. ^_^

I voted "the export", but in actuality I'm only interested in half the songs at most. But of course the songs I do want can never be DLC now, so I'll be eternally stuck with "Suddenly I See", "Girls & Boys", "Walking On Sunshine", the Rascal Flats version of "Life is a Highway" (they couldn't get the far superior Tom Cochrane version why?), etc. or no "We Will Rock You", "We Are The Champions", "Free Fallin'", "Fire", "You Give Love a Bad Name", or "The Final Countdown" (and a couple others I know I'm forgetting).

Incubus and The Coral making their RB debut sold me on the game... but I enjoy the majority of the songs outside of 4 or 5. Most of the songs will be really good for parties.

OK, new reason for me:
To play the Ghostbusters rock challenge. OVER AND OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.
This is now everyone's reason.

To be honest, it's a real shame that this game comes out after Haloween.

To be honest, it's a real shame that this game isn't out yet.
Fix'd.
Both, for me.
A bunch of great new songs for my main RB2 library. And a kid-friendly version of Rock Band I can throw into the tray when the nieces come over to play.
Win-win.
Also, I'll play it just to experience all the new stuff it has to offer. It'll be a blast.

im buying it cuz it looks insane. Good setlist imo, all the songs are at least recognisable if not good. The game looks really well done and not like a simple cash in *cough* band hero *cough*. Lots of work looks to have been put into it to make it great.
Also export is nice but thats just a bonus really.
Im buying the game for the game and not just for the export

Exports, easy achievements, and seeing a Lego Iggy Pop.

#1) I love RB
#2) I love LEGO
#3) Music selection (running towards the pop-rock side)
#4) Compatibility with select DLC and select RB1 songs
#5) Export into RB2 (but only to take the songs on-line)
#6) The "Ghostbusters" challenge
#7) The cutscenes have the LEGO humor of previous LEGO games
#8) Freddie Mercury in a spaceship (He's not dead. He just went home.)
#9) The Cow (if you saw any of the cutscenes, you'll know what I'm talking about) :D

If I we're to get it, I'd get it for the songs and cute Lego stuff since Wii has no export. Still undecided.

I have to get the Wii version too. When someone mentioned the Wii version has no music store I was so disappointed I nearly canceled my LRB preorder (this is a much bigger deal to me than the Abbey Road medley issue). Still, the songlist and the fact that it's Lego kept me on board. The recent gameplay streams and youtubes have gotten me fully onboard again: Can't wait. Now I'm just hoping the Wii's visuals can still capture the humor of what I've seen. The Lego Star Wars and Indy games looked great on Wii...Here's hoping!

Is this really confirmed? No DLC for wii LRB?

I can't export (Wii), & it's not because it's kid-friendly. I'm renting it because it has some great songs (Fire, You Give Love A Bad Name, Ghostbusters, I Want You Back, etc.).

I only heard it mentioned on the Beatles forum in a conversation about the AR medley. I can't confirm it: I just did multiple searches and could only find another couple of regular forum postings. There's no official word, so I guess there's still hope. I'm prepared for the worst in that regard: The game looks entertaining enough as a stand-alone. If the Wii version does, in fact, have a music store, I'll be ecstatic...I really want to see my Lego guys singing "Under Pressure"! Wii's my one and only console right now, 'cause I love what Nintendo's doing with it, but if there's no music store, LRB could be the game that makes me start settin' aside some cash for a 360.

So there is still hope for LRB DLC on wii... Anyway...that's where I am too... my recent annoyance with wii is that wii tb:rb doesn't allow you to slow down the track in practice mode... (works fine on ps3 and xbox)... I'm *never* going to be able to get that guitar solo in taxman. Sigh.

As TB:RB proved, playing through fresh tours/stories/challenges is quite fun and a rarity these days (due mainly in part to the whole HMX integrity thing and not releasing a new stand-alone every 6 months).
Although I have no kids (that I know of), I have no problem with the kid-friendly theme or it's associated setlist. In fact, like many others who have admitted on these forums, this game is chocked full of guilty pleasures. I'm looking at you, Pink. :D
All that being said, once I've run through the tour my intention is to export and shelve. In case of hard drive crash.

And that sums it up. You don't need any other reason than that. :D

I'll get it... but not for a long time, or until I can find it really cheap with an export code.

Everytime I see vids I keep remembering "No export and DLC" and it just crushes me everytime. I understand no export but cmon, no DLC? That's just crazy:(

Honestly? I'll just rent it for Ghostbusters, I don't have a game to import the songs to, and the Wii version apparantly won't have DLC.
But seriously, Ghostbusters. Come on man, that is all sorts of rad.

How does licensing on that song work? Do Ray Parker Jr. and Huey Lewis get a cut or does it just all go to Huey Lewis?
