Well my PS3 got the YLOD on monday, and I went out and got the new Slim with an extended warranty just in case. My old PS3 lasted me almost 3 years! Anywho, in doing so, I've now lost all my old save data.

The only thing I'm worried about...platinum trophy.

I am 4 away from getting it. Sure, they are a pretty difficult 4 (well, 3 actually) but still. What if I get those three, and no platinum?! I'd be so pissed if I had to go back and redo all the ones I worked so hard at, just to unlock the ingame status of them, to unlock the overall platinum. Anyone have any information on this? I really don't want to kill myself over Pick a Moon Dog again lol.

If you lost your save file, then you have lost your in-game progress. That includes the in-game tracking of any trophies you might have gotten.

In other words, yes, to get your Special (there is no "platinum") icon, you will need to do them all over again.

That's really stupid. All that work, and saved progress on my account, but just because I lose my save file, it's all worthless? That's so dumb. I thought the in-game aspect was a great idea, now I hate it.

Sorry to hear about your Data Loss.

The game is fun enough to give it another run through.

Maybe play a different instrument, or focus on singing and an instrument.

Make it fun, dont let it get you down. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzJ2NKp23WU)

Did you even bother with my post? It's not that its boring, its that the trophies are hard, and I worked at them for so long, only to have that work worthless toward getting the platinum? I only have 100% Helter Skelter, and the double/triple fabs left. There's nothing left to focus on really other than killing myself over getting those awards now.

Its cool, you can vent on me all you like.

I can take it.

When you cool off, try reading my post.

All I said was maybe focussing on different accomplishments will help your rage subside. There is more to do than worry about trophies, especially if losing them has you "killing yourself" to get them back.

If thats all that matters to you then I guess my efforts to help wont make you any more happy but I can still help by letting you vent on me... again... I can take it.

I am The Walrus. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0yNcE8c3j2M)

Look at the bright side, the snow is coming and there are turns to be laid down and parks to ride.

Is it possible to remove the HD from the old PS3 and put it into the new one?

If its a PS3 slim most likely no as I believe that the Harddrives are different sizes.

I guess you're scuppered unless you can resurrect your PS3

The Beatles Rock Band actually is a rhythm game where you can back up the game saves! That's why I take advantage of that constantly,

I actually tried that, and they are the same size and format, but asked me to format it for some reason when I first tried that. I'm afraid to try it again, as I already redownloaded all my RB songs, and that took FOREVER.

Maybe I'll give it a go again.

How exactly is it supposed to know? Your data cant be saved on the disc. There is nothing dumb about it. It makes perfect sense.

Well... You'll still get your Platinum trophy... you just probably won't get the in-game icon... That's far from "all being worthless".

No, he won't. First of all, because, like I already said earlier in this thread, there is no Platinum trophy. There is no platinum icon. It's called "Special", and it's rainbow-colored.

And second, there is no Special/Platinum trophy at all. It's an in-game icon you get once you get all 50 achievements/trophies/accomplishments. It's not a trophy itself.

I could've sworn Platinum trophy was what you get for earning all Trophies in a PS3 game that supports them. It'd be like getting the badge that says you've got all of the achievement points in a game on your profile, in that exists outside of the game.

There is a platinum trophy. It's called Complete Anthology. I believe all he has to do is sync his PS3 up in the trophy section of the XMB and all his trophies that he already has will appear as long as he didn't change the system user name.

Yes, his trophies will appear on his CONSOLE, but not in his GAME. That's the difference. You won't get the Special icon in the GAME unless the GAME knows about your trophies.

And the GAME only knows about your trophies that are stored in your Save Game file. If your Save Game file is gone, the GAME doesn't and won't ever know you got those trophies. You'll have to get them again.

So it all depends on what he really wants then. I say just go for the platinum trophy. Sure you might not get the special/platinum/whatever icon, but you still succeeded.

I am so confused. I'm getting mixed signals regarding if i'll get the platinum or not. I don't care about the in-game award, only I see those. I care about the out-of-game trophies. I'm not concerned about if the award will unlocking in-game, I already know it won't. I'm just concerned that it wont unlock outside of the game because of the in-game feature blocking it out.

I don't know if the PS3 will know "oh look, he unlocked the last few trophies, here's the platinum for 100%!" or if it wont be unlocked until the actual in-game one is unlocked as well. Ergh. Confuzzled.

I would think as long as you sync your trophies to get them back in your XMB, the platinum would unlock after getting your last trophy. I think the platinum trophy unlocks by looking at data from the trophy server and not through the game save. As stated, the in-game trophy progress is dependent on the game save.

That's what I was asking. I dont know why people thought I was asking about the in-game awards. I don't care about those, as stated, no one else can see them but me. So why would that matter? I just didn't know if the platinum trophy in the XMB for getting all Beatles trophies was locked until all in-game awards are unlocked as well. God knows I'll never get 100% Helter Skelter or all Triple Fabs...but someday it might happen.

Maybe I can find someone who is good enough on drums to do that for me. I'm not terrible, but I'm no Ringo. My foot and hand have taken a few years of practice to be able to do things independently. Well, I'll go for those last 3, and I'll keep everyone posted on what happens.

Like I said, I pretty much knew the in-game awards would have to be re-earned. I'm not concerned about those. Its the XMB/Trophies that I was concerned about; mainly the Platinum (Complete Anthology).

I'm starting to think that is indeed the case because I know there's several games that unlock the platinum for it even when you use different game saves, especially games like inFamous, GTAIV, Uncharted, etc. You get different trophies on different saves, but in the end you'll still get the plat.

I assumed from his first post he only cared about the CONSOLE trophies. From his last few post that is indeed what he meant.

Pretty sure thats how it works. Don't quote me for truth on it though as I could be wrong.

Best get all the awards that everyone can see. That way they know you're a bad a**. Proving to yourself that you can get all the on disc achievements and the fun associated with doing so...pshhh who needs self confidence.

I don't know if you're being serious or a sarcastic jerk. I'd assume the latter. And if that is the case, then screw off. I play games for fun, but achievements and trophies just give you more of a sense of accomplishment beyond beating the game once. It adds replayability to games.

I was going to say, see if you got a friend who has a ps3, ask if you can put your old one in, back it up to a usb hard drive, then put your friends hard drive back in, go home, use back up usb hard drive that you did the back up on, and restore to your new ps3, should work.

Let me know. By all means, do not format your old hard drive til you have gotten it over to your new machine, you cant get that info back.

Let me know if this helps ok?

I'd rather not risk it anymore haha. I tried popping my HDD into my new Slim, and it said had to format it. I then popped back in my new HDD (and alread had downloaded all my old RB2 songs and such) and i thought I was going to have to format that. Apparently, with old models, you have to format a drive once you pop it out. At least that's what I read. I don't want to risk losing my friends data as well. Sure, we could back his info up as well, but that's just as much as a hassle if you ask me. I think I'll just suck it up and deal with my losses.
