View Full Version : Importing RB: Lego To RB2 Question

Hi all,
I am a hugggggggggge novice when it comes to exporting songs on Xbox 360 as I never have before. I have both RB: Lego and RB2 so my questions are:
-Do I pop in the RB: Lego game and then is there a option that pops up to say import?
-Do I pop in RB2 and is there a option there to import the songs with the RB: Lego manual code?
I am very confused by this process. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

The instructions for what to do should be on the back of the Lego Rock Band Instruction booklet, from what I understand. I haven't gotten my copy yet, so I don't know if that's accurate or not, but that's how this has always worked before. The Export will be run from within the Lego game, not Rock Band 2.

I'll be getting mine in an hour and I'll post on what to do if no one has by then.

I have no desire to play the lego game itself. I want the songs for RB2. This function was promised upon purchase of the game.

You should calm down. They won't answer you. It will be up and running at some point. Just wait, calm down, play the actual game you bought and you'll be able to export your songs within a couple of days I'm sure.
EDIT: Export was promised, but they never said export would be available at 12:01 am. Bottom line, they could wait a week for export to be available and it wouldn't make them a liar.

Actually, the press release made no such "promise" regarding the time frame for exportation. I actually hope that they give it a week so that Ripnreturners and Rentnrippers get burned.

Not quite sure what your concern is. I love Rock Band, and want around 30 of the songs from Lego Rock Band. I bought LRB with the sole intention of importing the songs, and selling the game back to Gamestop to lower the price on MW2. I'll be quite upset if I can't do that. Why would that bother you? Has this violated some sort of ethical code of which I'm not aware?

Also, for what it's worth, you export the songs in the "Music Store" section on the LRB disc. However, when I try that, it says, "Can't retrieve information from Xbox LIVE. Please try again later. Status code:800700e8.
Long story short, I think the Music Store on LRB is how to import songs, but it's not working yet.

Why would you be upset? The game will export eventually. Would it be so terrible if in that time you actually used the opportunity to play a little bit of that game you just dropped $50 on?

You're right -- it wouldn't be so terrible. I'm looking forward to playing for a week. However, I can't see myself playing this often at all over RB2. I will, however, be playing MW2 at times over RB2. Because of this, I'd love to export the songs into RB2 and trade the game in to save some cash on MW2. I don't buy a lot of games, so it would be quite a while until I can trade this in otherwise. Therefore, if HMX (or whomever is in control of this) waits for a significant period of time to allow importing, as you hope they do, I will be upset. I'm not boycotting companies, or threatening legal action, or trying to take away their internets, or anything like that. I'll just be upset.

You can trade games in whenever you want and just have store credit floating around. It doesn't hurt anything. Heck, if you buy DLC you can trade it in for PSN/XBL cards and buy new content/games. Also, some places like TRU and BB are starting to do game trades, so you can go there and get credit for stuff OTHER than games.
Therefore, if HMX (or whomever is in control of this) waits for a significant period of time to allow importing, as you hope they do, I will be upset.
I only said a week or so. Just enough time to give people a chance to play the game before deciding to just rip its contents and toss it aside as just another track pack.

Those are some excellent points. I never would have thought to trade in the game for XBL cards. That's a great call.

Fair enough. I wasn't looking to get into a semantic discussion. I just wanted to express my view that not everyone who is anxious for the importing is looking to get something for nothing.
Also -- you can rent games for a week? Man, it's been a while since I've rented a game. I still remember trying to beat Sega Genesis games in 2 days...

Has this violated some sort of ethical code of which I'm not aware?
It depends on your stance on the issue. Certainly a buy and rip is much better than trying to rent the thing. I personally can't find a lot of fault in a buy and rip philosophy since buying/returning is very typical in the current game culture, you'll have paid $9.99 for the export, and Gamestop will soon be so overloaded with copies of L:RB that do not have an export code that the trade-in price of the game will drop precipitously.
I only hope that Gamestop is smart enough to inform their customers that the code is a one-time code or they'll probably get a lot of really pissed off people coming back to the store.
But then we can talk for days about whether the current buy-back/trade-in model that Gamestop (and even online places like Amazon) uses is ethical and/or good for the industry at all. I just finally bought a Wii the other day and went to Gamestop to load up on some controllers and games. Used controllers without the gel cover that a new one comes with were selling for 34.99 and new ones were selling for $39.99. As a gamer, that saves me $5 (which sounds ok although I'm not getting the full product either), but it costs Nintendo $40, and the sap that traded that controller in probably got less than 50% of what Gamestop is selling them for. Great for Gamestop... bad for the further development and profitability of gaming companies.
I know a lot of hardcore gamers see the trade-in game as the only good way they can easily fund their hobby, and I get that, but the rate at which Gamestop is able to offer used copies to anyone that didn't pre-order is certainly hurting the long-term profitability of games for the companies producing them.
Of course, the other argument can be made that making games more affordable to the non-hardcore results in a bolstering of the video game playing population and eventual pre-order or increased new game sales... I get it.
I just hate to see HMX get shafted when the export thing is a great service for customers and very likely costs them a significantly larger amount of money on the licensing end.

Getting away from the angry topic here...lol...does one need to export all the songs or will it allow you to choose whihc ones (though I do realize ti is 800 pts no matter how many you want, which is fine).
Just definitely some songs I could care less about and trying to maximize the 2G I have left on the Xbox for songs I really want...(getting the 120G for Xmas).

I only hope that Gamestop is smart enough to inform their customers that the code is a one-time code or they'll probably get a lot of really pissed off people coming back to the store.
The card itself makes the "One-Time Use" rule quite clear according to initial feedback. So anybody buying a used copy expecting a functional code is making a poor assumption.
And no, GameStop will not throw out the card if you include it in a used copy. This is because they have no way of knowing if the code is good or not...anything you include in the case when you sell it (as long as its game related) will be sold with the game.
This is how people who buy some 360 games used end up getting free months on XBL, as people often forget to use these before selling back the game.

It probably works the same as RB1 export: it exports everything, but you can delete individual songs afterwards.

update: this game is not really fun. it has NO ONLINE WHATSOEVER. that's so idiotic i don't even have the right words for it. watching the little lego people was a bit amusing for the first song or so but they kind of make me sick now. i thought the lego bricks as notes was a clever idea but it's really not practical and i have trouble distinguishing the number of notes to hit in drum fills. anyway, track list is phenomenal and i can't wait to export it since that's the only reason this game appealed to me at all. unfortunately, i rented this and got screwed cuz there was no insert that had the code. the instruction manual was there but no export code. now i have to drop $50 on this :( it is cheaper though than if they had released it as a giant track pack for rock band but still it's frustrating that they won't be doing that.

Well, I bought it for ~42 bucks after a price match at Walmart with a local Fry's ad (Fry's has the game for 37.88 today iirc)
Enjoying it so far, although the DLC being allowed is weird. Feels Like the First Time is a yes but Smokin' is a no?
Was it worth the 40 bucks? We'll see, I've only done 2 songs and mucked around with my DLC in freeplay. I kind of wish I could take the filter off and export RB2 though, the interface on L:RB is so much better than RB2.

The game is fun. It sounds like you only played it a few songs, (and only because you couldn't rent n' rip mind you) So with your negative attitude in mind, i think that effected your "review" of the game.
We already knew there was no online play. No Lego game has ever had it. Why? Because it's a KIDS GAME, do you know what kid of people hang out online? ADULTS, sometimes with foul mouths. I really hope I don't need to spell the rest out to you.
The lego notes are fine, just a lil different shape.

I think T-Hybrid is literally on the floor in laughter pain right now, if he's read the last few posts. :p
I knew SOMETHING was going to be different about the "code" needed for export. That's why I just bought my own copy of the game, instead of renting (a few weeks of fun, at the VERY least, and 45 new RB songs for RB2). Whoever thought of just using a seperate slip of paper for the export code is a genius. :)
I have a feeling that Ebay will have a few auctions JUST for the export code soon. So I don't think people in the "only for the export" category will have TOO much trouble getting those 45 Lego songs...for what it's worth. And if some of them are patient, like you said, the game will probably be on sale for about $30 sometime next year. We'll see.
On a side note, it's kind of neat that when I loaded up Under Pressure, Queen came on as the LEGO avatars. Take note Activision - that's how it should be done!
Oh, REALLY? That sounds VERY nice. :)
I'll have to check that out later today, once I get through the tour a little.

Well screw it, I'm returning my copy and putting the money towards MW2 if HMX is gonna play this game at the expense of purchasers. This actually saved me money in the end, so I guess I'm thankful lol. It will most likely have a price cut by the time they release the export feature. That's what's funny; this will end up costing them more money in the end. People will wait to purchase at a discounted price because the export will finally be up, and those "nefarious" rip'n'returners will still do just that, only at a later date. Those codes are still the same and they'll still work later; now they just have to rent the game again. Blockbuster just made a few more rentals. So in quite a humorous twist, in their futile attempt to scorn unsavory fans, HMX has essentially lost some profit and boosted Blockbuster's in the process.

Anyway, why delay export and frustrate everyone? Why not just exclude the slip with the export code from rental copies? I thought that was why they did that instead of putting it on the manual.

Agreed. Not only are you screwing over the devs, you're screwing over the person who will actually buy the copy you lifted the code out of. I bought my copy knowing I would resell it on E-Bay (much as others) to recover some costs. All I wanted is the export.
Am I sad the export's not up yet? Yeah. Will I return the game and cry because of it? No. Will I go do something constructive with my day like the dishes before my fiancee comes home and kills me for not doing them? Sounds like a plan.

Actually there are alot of features in the interface that I wish were in RB2.

i really don't see it this way at all. they have ample opportunities (every tuesday) to allow people a legitimate means of obtaining these songs without the displeasure of playing lego: rock band. seriously, i don't like the game. i never liked the concept or anything about it. it's not a game that is targeted at me and i completely accept and understand that. however, the only shining moment this game had was when i heard the track list was exportable. it's really a well done track list and if they announced that it would be available as dlc in rock band i would be satisfied. however, this is the only way to obtain these songs and since i don't want to play the game i have to find some other means of obtaining the songs which made renting such an appealing option. i'm sick of them releasing exclusive and timed exclusive things. seriously HMX just let your biggest fanbase (the rock band 2 crowd) have access to everything since most of us don't care about lego rock band (or the beatles rock band for that matter).

Here's an idea...play the game in the meantime. There's more than enough content here to last you until the export is up. LRB is not a trackpack, even if you view it as such. There's no rush in getting the export up as it is a supplemental feature to the game, and its not like you have paid for the export yet, so HMX owes you nothing as far as a timeframe for getting it up.

I really can understand why some people are very frustrated with this. I can understand hating on people who wanted to rent / steal the thing for the export, but I don't think it's quite nice to tell the people who legally purchased the game and can do what they please with it that they're doing the wrong thing by wanting to export it and toss the disc aside.
We can argue "I know corporate this and that" all we please, but it's certainly something everyone expected would be there from day one - considering that the option to export the songs is already present on the music store screen. Frankly, I'm on the side of the people saying this ought to have been up today, and I was planning on exporting it after I'd beaten the whole thing.

#1 - you obviously know nothing about retail sales.
#2 - your voice most likely hasn't cracked yet.
#3 - rentals don't include the export code paper (as discovered by all the other thieves out there who have come to this board to cry a river).
#4 - you will not be able to steal this game. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!!!!
#5 - you're an admitted thief and it would be awesome to see you get used by the software companies as an example of what they do to intellectual property thieves. :pgood one! :D
seriously, how depraved is this community that everyone is assumed to be a criminal mastermind?

i really don't see it this way at all. they have ample opportunities (every tuesday) to allow people a legitimate means of obtaining these songs without the displeasure of playing lego: rock band. seriously, i don't like the game. i never liked the concept or anything about it. it's not a game that is targeted at me and i completely accept and understand that. however, the only shining moment this game had was when i heard the track list was exportable. it's really a well done track list and if they announced that it would be available as dlc in rock band i would be satisfied. however, this is the only way to obtain these songs and since i don't want to play the game i have to find some other means of obtaining the songs which made renting such an appealing option. i'm sick of them releasing exclusive and timed exclusive things. seriously HMX just let your biggest fanbase (the rock band 2 crowd) have access to everything since most of us don't care about lego rock band (or the beatles rock band for that matter).
So buy the game pay the export fee and get 45 new songs for 1.33 a piece. Cheaper than regular DLC anyway.
Stop trying to make excuses for your thievery. I laughed pretty hard when I saw the code was on another piece of paper it stops thieves like yourself.
You might want to look around more it seems like most of us like this game and your in the minority.

Same here. I could have cared less if the export wasn't up for another week if that was the case for both consoles. This just proves that HMX spits on PS3 users and that our version of the game is just a cheap port of the X-Box 360 exclusive that they support.

I'd bet money you're STILL going to buy Lego Rock Band within this month :)

I love this game, I really feel sorry for those that want to treat it like a track pack, because you are really missing out on a lot of fun.
I am a bit disappointed that the export is actually downloading the songs in one big 1.2gb file from a server and not just transfering the songs from the disc like what was done with Rock Band 1. Because of this I will have all the Lego RB songs imported into my RB2 setlist, I was hoping to keep the songs I wanted and delete the songs I didn't want. Oh well I can live with a few extra songs in my RB2 library.
On another note...I really hope that HMX incorperates some of the Lego:RB stuff into RB 3 such as the room you decorate, and how by rotating around the room you have access to practice, free play, etc.

Apparently if you want to play those songs on a different game, then the people who developed the game that allows for exporting the songs do deserve your money. Whether or not you'll admit it to yourself, you do care about the game for its exporting functionality.
Why exactly do they not "deserve" your money? If you seriously think the value of 45 Rock Band songs is not included in the price of LEGO: RB, you're mistaken. Your assumption that shelling out $10 covers the cost of all the work that went into 45 songs is naive. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

If it was the first time that the PS3 users got the short end of the stick, then it's no big deal. But after the initial release of RB2 was delayed, the exclusivity of All You Need Is Love for TB:RB, and the patch being non-existant for PS3 users, this is like that final straw. On it's own, not a big deal. But with all the other "you PS3 people suck" incidents, it's just starting to be too much. Especially when there was absolutely no mention of this delay at any time.

But with the Wii I would at least know I'm being shafted as the 'shafting' is announced well in advance. On the PS3, they always claim that they treat the console just like they do the 360, then when a release date comes out they don't even tell us that they're shafting us. We have to wait and see that our game is missing something that the 360 has. Something that we thought we'd have available to us.

Well, I feel bad for everyone that's just treating this one like an overpriced track pack, cause the game is actually pretty good. If you're a fan of the Lego games, you'll like it. My kid (he's 4) loves the Lego Star Wars and Batman games, so he's into it. The "super easy" mode is great for him, and he can even play drums and feel like he's doing something. This may be a shock to a lot of you guys, but the game was DESIGNED FOR THAT. It wasn't designed to boost your RB2 library, that's an added bonus. No online play sorta makes sense. Why? You don't have parents having to watch their kids when they go online to play and get paired up with the 8 year old down the street practicing his new "vocabulary" because he thinks it makes him sound cool. Step outside, find three other people and invite 'em over to play the game.
I also have to smirk a bit at the people getting tweaked over the game not export RIGHT FRIGGIN NOW!!!! If you're getting this tweaked over a game not exporting for anywhere from two hours to eleven days, life is gonna suck REALLY REALLY hard for you at some point. If you get bent out of shape over something like that, losing your job or having your car stolen is gonna be like a nuclear event.

Progress so far:
1) Entered code from insert on website
2) Downloaded tiny license key on XBox Live
3) Downloaded 1.28GB pack from LRB Music Store
At no point during this was I given an opportunity to pay the $10. Not surprisingly, the songs are not showing up in Rock Band 2.
Have I missed something?

Holy poo poo the pack is huge a whopping total of 1.28GB.... I think Rock Band 2's Export will be even longer....
Oh to Mr Kellwolf I kinda agree. I wouldn't mind playing the game sometime to get achivments.

If you downloaded the license, you should be able to play them.

The plot thickens...
The songs ARE in my RB2 song list...I was looking for a Lego Rock Band sorting option and when I didn't see it, I assumed they weren't there. They're just mixed in with all the other DLC.
I'd still love to know why I didn't have to pay, and if there's anything I can do to rectify that.

You did have to pay. You know that part where you had to pay 800 MSP to download the 1.2GB pack? That was the "paying" part. :)

The ridiculous thing is that I at no point saw the usual payment screen, but am in fact 800 points poorer. Huh. So I leave the night feeling confused, but glad that everything worked out the way it was meant to.

Um, if you bought the pack you would've seen this.
1) Go to LEGO Rock Band Music Store.
2) Select "Export"
3) Select "Purchase"
4) Confirmation screen pops up showing required points and total points.
At this point, you can't get the pack unless you select "Confirm Download", which deducts the points and drops the download into your queue.

*sigh* All these people that just think that everyone that complains is a pirate. Good lord!
1. Regardless, this should have been working day one, no questions asked. When you have a game that you know is going to be released at a certain time and date, then you should have everything that you promised consumers would be working when you release the game. PERIOD! There's no "well, they didn't say WHEN! They didn't make a promise WHEN!" Umm...then they should TELL US WHEN, and why they didn't include it on day one. With all these rushed games to meet deadlines only to be as buggy as s### (see COD:MW2 and the Javelin glitch that MS was so ready to cover Acti's asses on. Thank God Sony was like "we're not banning anyone for using it. It was your fault, not ours. YOU fix it." Would've never gotten a patch even considered for THAT if they didn't), we need to be aware of these things. You promise the features, you make them available when you intend on releasing the game. If they are not going to be ready on day one, then they have the responsibility to tell us when it will be available. The fact that we didn't get so much as a peep that it wouldn't be available day one or WHEN it would be is disheartening, and the fact that we have fanboys ready to defend this sort of thing to the death is even moreso.
2. And now we get to this whole "rent-export-return" thing. For this, I'm just going to tell you about what I had to do in order to restore my PS3 DLC stuff when I went to replace my hard drive to a 500GB drive (something that 360 owners can't do as much of now because MS is being so draconian about how you use your 360 anymore. Can't even BREATHE on it without them thinking you're modding it to pirate games). To do this, I had to move some things to a USB flash drive. Okay, no problem. Only one thing: it's only 4 gigs on the USB drive, and I got a LOT of stuff on my drive, including DLC from RB (I buy a LOT of it), not to mention the whole copy protection HMX insists needs to be on all the RB saves. So I go through the process of getting what I can (knowing I'll have to start over on some of these games because those that CP the saves don't think this part through...nor do they seem to CARE), and then replace the HD. When I redownload the DLC, I notice that would need the RB1 disc to get back the songs to play on RB2. Thankfully, I didn't have to actually buy RB1 again, since as long as I had the export key, I could just Gamefly the RB1 game and get the songs back that way (and thanks to that, I was introduced to how good GF can be). Keep in mind that before that, I had bought RB1 six months or so before RB2 came out (the special edition, which meant I bought the instruments with it, $180), so before any of you people try to say that I was "stealing" the songs (more on that in a sec), I DID buy the game outright (loved the songs they offered). However, I didn't think I should be punished for just wanting to replace my HD.
Where am I getting at here? It's that people DO replace HDs, have problems with their games, will play through these games, then export and trade in, etc. (read the Red Ring of Death for the 360 or my adventure with replacing the PS3 hard drive...which the latter is explained how to do with a normal SATA notebook hard drive IN THE PS3 MANUAL! Have to make that clear because of SOME people in here ready to assume the worst out of people, so making sure people know Sony ALLOWS that sort of thing to be done). If something, God forbid, SHOULD happen to which you would need to restore your saves (or have to back them up somehow), the whole thing of renting the game to get your songs that you DID pay 70 dollars to export before (60 plus the 10 for the export thing, and don't think that the price of the game will drop right away. There are games that have been out for a year or so now that are STILL 60) is not as certain to work now. Sure, you would need the disc to do this (as you needed the RB1 disc to get the songs back), but would the "one-time" export key would need to be reentered. If you even had the disc, what would happen? Is it a one time download and then you can never download it again? When you had it on the PSN store, it would be for 3-5 downloads (and I needed to redownload the export key to do this for RB1, and the 20 bonus songs that I got by getting RB2 were available via the PSN Store interface, which made it the same limitations as any other PSN Store download). Since this has to be done through the store that should've been up since day one, HMX can have full control over how often you can redownload the songs, and if you need ANOTHER manual key to do so (which means, ANOTHER 60 bucks should something happen). Oh, and the most interesting scenario: what if you buy a new retail copy of the game only to find that the slip of paper that has the code on it not even IN THE DAMN BOX? Will HMX just assume you stole the game? There IS a thread on this board that has someone jumping through hoops because his brand new code doesn't work, and HMX seems in no hurry to fix the issue.
Now, granted, I haven't got this game yet because of me only wanting the songs off of it. I KNEW they would pull this stunt and I KNEW people would defend it to the death. Seems people here are like "how dare you rent games instead of buying them". You guys DO realize I pay $24 a month for Gamefly, right? Do you CARE? It's not like we're renting games for free here. And Gamefly DOES have a "keep" option if we like the game enough, which brings a whole HOST of other questions to this equation, since we would then have to pay an additional "keep" price, and so far, there's no report of if Gamefly's copies WILL have these cards in the boxes. There's nothing from them saying they will or won't (they do have a notice about the God of War Collection about the GoW3 demo code not being usable or something like that with their copies, so I assume they would say something similar if there was an issue about the keys for LRB if there was something that had to be stated about them). I was thinking about getting the game yesterday, but got Dragon Age: Origins instead.
What I'm saying is for people to think things through, for one, before pointing the finger in our faces and screaming "you're a pirate" or "you're a thief" or "how dare you rent instead of buy" (why is renting games so awful and non-dev friendly now? Please enlighten me on how this has become so bad that we have to denounce THAT as stealing, too). Understand what OUR situations are before blasting us.
And stop being fanboys. Just because you like the game doesn't mean devs always do things right. They needed to be more responsible about the store. This is Harmonix we're talking about, not Valve. HMX isn't one to be expected to be lazy, so this whole thing with the store not being up right away without a peep as to WHY it wasn't is surprising. They're not the RIAA or MPAA, either. We didn't expect them to suddenly get all capitalist on us and punish honest consumers like they seem to be trying to here...we didn't expect them to be Activision and think of the PS3 as an afterthought, either (saying it like this since we're assuming that HMX isn't the promising type).
And I didn't expect to type as much, either. Forgive me.

The fact that you think you should dictate a companys actions is disheartening. The fact that you think there was an export delay is half false. It was up for the xbox on the first day. A week later for the PS3. I cant remember the reason why. And I really dont care. It was a week. Could have been sonys fault for all I know. And incase you dont know, this was MONTHS ago. Ummmm what? You only enter the one-time code ONCE. Once you have the liscense you can redownload the songs as many times as you please. Without a disc. I prefer it that way. I really cant see a point in the rest of your rambling.

If you rent the game and steal the code you are infact a thief. There is no possible way to justify it. This is a different beast than the RB1 export. And what is your situation? That you are cheap and you dont want to support a company that worked hard on a game. Im glad im not in that situation.

Clearly. You have no clue what you are talking about.
Yet I was the one that was paying attention to what was being said in the thread. If those other people were incorrect, why didn't you correct any of them? Why just pick NOW to bring that up?

How do you "steal" the code from a rental copy? I'm not sure what the logic is on how you're assuming people CAN do that when the code is one-use-only, anyway.
And you obviously don't know how these rental companies work, or you wouldn't even be bringing this up as an argument. I'm a Gamefly subscriber, so let me explain this to you in case you don't know how this works, and read this carefully (got to say that because you obviously don't bother to read anything that's more than a paragraph long):
You sign up for Gamefly (obviously), and choose the plan you want (the more games you want out at once, up to 4 at a time, the more money per month you shell out).
Depending on what game is available for you at the time, you are sent the game you choose (in your "GameQ") in an envelope.
You play it for as long as you desire (until you tire of it or exhaust all its replay value), then you send it back and they then send out the next game on your Q that's available.
IF you decide to keep the game, you go to the game's page, click "keep", and then confirm (it's a reduced price depending on things such as how long you've been a GF subscriber), you pay the "keep" price.
Only when you "keep" or buy the game from them are you even given the BOX, let alone the manual or whatever would be included IN the box, such as codes and that.
So, even if I were to want to rent the game to get the code, I wouldn't be given it unless I wanted to keep it, anyway, and even then there is no guarantee about the code even being in there when I pay the difference to keep the game. I'm not even sure what your basis is that you assume we even CAN rent the code. And, like I said, people have been having problems getting the codes to work even when they've paid, and having issues with HMX to get some support about it. Not sure what you're basing it off of.
And again, you're assuming that we're thieves if we rent games, and you're assuming that I'm cheap. Keep in mind that not all of us make a million dollars a year like you apparently do, and we don't have the patience and money to blow 60 bucks on a game that might be crap. We want to make sure that the people who made the game DESERVE our money before we give it to them. I mentioned I bought DA:O over L:RB? I wish I had rented it before (DID have it in my GameQ). I'm seeing random buggy flickers like it was trying to give me a seizure, and people are having freezing issues and save corruption issues from it. I'm glad you apparently have bucketloads of money to just put 60 bucks down on every single game that comes out (I'm just assuming you do because you're slamming everyone that dares to rent before buying), but don't expect everyone to be as rich as you are if you do (or as trusting of devs to make a good, bug-free game than we are).
And...what IS my "situation"? You seem to know more about my situation than I do, so please inform me on how I should live my life and what my situation is. Is yours any better? I mean, I assumed because you seem to make yourself be better than us because you BUY all YOUR games rather than use Gamefly or whatever to try it beforehand, but should I be wrong, maybe you might not have as much of room to talk.
Stop blowing people off as fanboys because you dont agree with them.
I called them fanboys because they went "OMG, you're criticizing HMX! How dare you." without adding anything to the conversation (please learn the difference between the two), and doing exactly what you just did to me. Hell, I'm surprised you didn't begin the whole "SDF" thing that a lot of people who hate anyone that says good things about the PS3 do the way you went (I guess you didn't see any of my slamming MS for the XBL mod bannings or banning for the MW2 Javi glitch because you were too busy thinking of how to try to say how I was rambling and cherry picking the things that fitted your argument and telling me what my "situation" was).

You dictated when you told HMX how to run thier company. The DID inform of us of the PS3 delay. Once again you dont know what you are talking about.
Umm...other people are saying you need to be in the RB store to do the export, which means you DO need the disc, from what I can understand. Did you even pay any attention to the rest of the thread, or are you just cherry picking what fits your argument?
You need it to export the FIRST TIME. After that you can simply redownload it from your download history. Once again, dont know what you are talking about.
Yet I was the one that was paying attention to what was being said in the thread. If those other people were incorrect, why didn't you correct any of them? Why just pick NOW to bring that up?
Maybe you should try reading the thread again. Because its clear you are not reading what the rest of us are.
How do you "steal" the code from a rental copy??
You rent the game and steal the code. Its on a slip of paper. Its not on the disc. This ISNT a RB1 export. Its 100% different.
So, even if I were to want to rent the game to get the code, I wouldn't be given it unless I wanted to keep it,
At which point it wouldnt you stealing because you bought the game. Moot point.
And again, you're assuming that we're thieves if we rent games,
Im not assuming anything. If I went to blockbuster and rented the game and stole the code I am stealing: FACT.

The game if 50 dollars. Once again......
I'm glad you apparently have bucketloads of money to just put 60 bucks down on every single game that comes out (I'm just assuming you do because you're slamming everyone that dares to rent before buying),
Oh my freaking god. Now I understand. You think we are accusing people of just renting the game as thieves. Hahahahahahahahahaaa. Wow.
Let me make this clear: The game comes with a one time code. If you rent the game and STEAL THE CODE, you are stealing. Get it? NOBODY is saying that renting a game is stealing. Cheese and rice talk about the biggest rant over a nothing.
I called them fanboys because they went "OMG, you're criticizing HMX! How dare you." without adding anything to the conversation )

You dictated when you told HMX how to run thier company. The DID inform of us of the PS3 delay. Once again you dont know what you are talking about.
Apparently none of us got the memo, then. When did they inform us on any delay. If you go back to the beginning of this thread, people were arguing that the store was not up (which was the entire basis of this thread). You're changing what the original question was.
You need it to export the FIRST TIME. After that you can simply redownload it from your download history. Once again, dont know what you are talking about.
WHAT download history? That's the whole point. People IN THIS THREAD are saying you need the DISC to export the songs, and if you would READ that, you would SEE that that is part of the issue in question here. Tell THEM they don't know what they're talking about, NOT ME! I'm telling you what THEY told you AND me. I'm telling YOU because apparently YOU'RE not listening to ANY of them. You're acting like I'm the first one in this thread that has ever thought that.
Maybe you should try reading the thread again. Because its clear you are not reading what the rest of us are.
Yet I'm so far not telling you anything DIFFERENT than what anyone else in this thread is telling you, yet you accuse ME of not reading it.
You rent the game and steal the code. Its on a slip of paper. Its not on the disc. This ISNT a RB1 export. Its 100% different.
How is this any different? I'm failing to see that. You say it's different than RB1, yet you buy the game, buy the export key, then export. The only thing that IS different is that now you need an additional code to buy the export key. Other than that, it's the same (you need the disc on both points to get the songs off of there).
I would tell you about the rental thing, but you continue on that point...
At which point it wouldnt you stealing because you bought the game. Moot point.
"It wouldn't you stealing"? Do you mean "you wouldn't be stealing"?
And that exactly what I DID say.
Then comes a discreet revelation:
Im not assuming anything. If I went to blockbuster and rented the game and stole the code I am stealing: FACT.
*facepalm*
Here's where I KNOW that you didn't read a single damn word I wrote. For the last goddamned time:
THEY NEVER GIVE YOU ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE EFFIN GAME WHEN YOU RENT SOMETHING!
No manual, no codes, no BOX! Just the game and whatever storage mechanism they decide to put it in to make you know that it is THEIRS! How can you use something you don't even HAVE? How can you steal something that isn't even THERE? You have no clue on how rental stuff works, or you would comprehend this point (and you've obviously have never went into a Blockbuster, or signed up for an online rental thing before. Do you even know what Netflix is?).
This made me laugh because I even outlined for you what Gamefly is, and that they don't give you a box. They put the disc into a paper sleeve, then put it into a cardboard sleeve (you know, so the disc doesn't get damaged), then put THAT into an envelope and send it to you. Where in all of that do they even have ROOM to put any card into this envelope? I'm still lost on how you're thinking that they even would GIVE this to you if you're not buying the game.
You're giving rental places way TOO much credit here, and you're insisting that they would even give this code to you. It would be a waste of time anyway since they are one use only.
The game if 50 dollars. Once again......
Obviously you've never went into the PS3 section of your local Wal Mart before. I mean, I keep saying PS3 this and PS3 that, and now you're thinking I'm talking about the 360 version.
And in what stores are you checking at? Amazon usually marks down games (S&H plays a factor in their prices sometimes, though). I might actually be wrong at least on THIS point (about the price). But, normally, 60 is the price for new PS3 games.
Oh my freaking god. Now I understand. You think we are accusing people of just renting the game as thieves. Hahahahahahahahahaaa. Wow.
But isn't that what you're doing? You're claiming that we're not supporting the devs by renting games, and you clearly have no clue about what they give you when you rent this game (unless there is a rental place I've never heard of in my LIFE that WILL give you the actual game box. Blockbuster never HAS done such a thing, though).
Let me make this clear: The game comes with a one time code.
No sh#t!
If you rent the game and STEAL THE CODE, you are stealing. Get it?
If you rent the game, you DON'T get any code to steal unless you're going behind the counter or to where customers don't have access to to begin with. Once more, when during this whole rental process are you even GIVEN the code TO steal? I'm still lost about when you're given the code. I don't see how clearer I can make that question, and it seems like you know for a FACT that they are giving renters these cards.
And if they ARE, then that isn't the renters' fault, but the person giving them out TO the people (which, by your example, would be Blockbuster). How is it stealing when THEY are the ones giving them to you? If a merchant gives something for free, and someone decides to take advantage of it, then someone like you comes along and says "hey, you stole that because you didn't pay for it", who's fault is THAT? The person who got it for free, or the person who decided to give it away? That's what this sounds like: you're blaming the consumer for something that would be Blockbuster's fault (they shouldn't be putting those codes in there, which they don't, but since you insist they are...). By YOUR logic, the consumer is at fault for stealing something that is GIVEN to them by the merchant without a price tag. That would then be called a bait-and-switch, which would then get them into legal trouble.
NOBODY is saying that renting a game is stealing. Cheese and rice talk about the biggest rant over a nothing.
Yet you responded to it. And read my "rant" above about that first point...oh, wait, I forgot: you can't be bothered to do THAT, either, since you've failed to read much of anything I've posted yet, obviously.
Please read the thread because that didnt happen.
You mean the thread that you refuse to remember what the points of the argument were? Sure, I'll get right on that...though it'll be the same results after.
I have no clue what you are talking about. Talk about paranoid.

Does THAT ring a bell?
Next time you decide to post a huge rant, I suggest you get all the facts.

Apparently none of us got the memo, then. When did they inform us on any delay. If you go back to the beginning of this thread, people were arguing that the store was not up (which was the entire basis of this thread). You're changing what the original question was.
Its in a different thread. Im not wasting my time finding info about a non-issue.
You're acting like I'm the first one in this thread that has ever thought that..
Your xbox or PSN download history. Since you have no clue what you are talking about let me help you out. You dont RIP from the disk. You DOWNLOAD from live or PSN. The only way to access the download is throught the Lego Rock Band store. If you actually read the thread you would know this. You need the disc ONE TIME. This is not a RB1 export.
Im skipping your next few paragraphs because they dont make sense because you dont know what you are talking about.
How is this any different? I'm failing to see that. You say it's different than RB1, yet you buy the game, buy the export key, then export. The only thing that IS different is that now you need an additional code to buy the export key. Other than that, it's the same (you need the disc on both points to get the songs off of there).
Its different for two huge reasons. You need a one-time code and you dont rip the songs. You download them. There is no issue with RB1 because HMX already made money on the game. If you are going to rip RB1 you need RB2 to own it. So they make 5 bucks and a sale of RB2.
THEY NEVER GIVE YOU ANYTHING OTHER THAN THE EFFIN GAME WHEN YOU RENT SOMETHING!
*facepalm*. Maybe you should take a trip to Blockbuster, Hollywood Video and other local shops where they give you everything. Maybe you should try to contact the people who admitted they stole the slips from those places and got rightly banned from this forum. You have no clue.
Obviously you've never went into the PS3 section of your local Wal Mart before. I mean, I keep saying PS3 this and PS3 that, and now you're thinking I'm talking about the 360 version.
Obviously you didnt read the press release. The game is 50 dollars. 10 dollars cheaper. So if you pay for the export you are paying for a full price game. Again you have NO CLUE.
But isn't that what you're doing? .
At this point my brain is ready to explode. I feel like im talking to a wall. NO im not saying that. Let me say it again for the umptenth time: If you rent and USE THE CODE, you are stealing. Thats it. NOBODY has said if you just simply rent you are stealing. Where you got that from, I dont know.
You're claiming that we're not supporting the devs by renting games,
I never said that. Dont put words in my mouth. I said if you rent and steal the slip you are not suppporting the devs.
And if they ARE, then that isn't the renters' fault,
If I left my car unlocked and running and somebody stole it, is it my fault? Yep. But its still stealing. Now if you rented the game with the slip and returned the slip, its not stealing at all. Blockbuster owns the right to use the slip, not you.

Keep in mind that not all of us make a million dollars a year like you apparently do, and we don't have the patience and money to blow 60 bucks on a game that might be crap.
GO WITHOUT. Or rent the game, enjoy the game, enjoy the songs, and when you return the game, you'll have to part with the songs. Just like if you were to rent Guitar Hero 1. Or, for that matter, ANY OTHER GAME.
Also, some people have "export" confused with "45-pack of songs from major artists for only $10."
EDIT: Also, Lego Rock Band has an MSRP of $50, which I'm well aware is less than most current-generation games.

Its in a different thread. Im not wasting my time finding info about a non-issue.
And again, if this is a non-issue, then why are you so defensive about it?
Your xbox or PSN download history. Since you have no clue what you are talking about let me help you out. You dont RIP from the disk. You DOWNLOAD from live or PSN. The only way to access the download is throught the Lego Rock Band store. If you actually read the thread you would know this. You need the disc ONE TIME. This is not a RB1 export.
I did read the thread, and I saw you needed the disc, but nothing about the one and done thing.
Im skipping your next few paragraphs because they dont make sense because you dont know what you are talking about.
Or maybe it's something you can't refute or have a smart-ass answer to.
Its different for two huge reasons. You need a one-time code and you dont rip the songs. You download them. There is no issue with RB1 because HMX already made money on the game. If you are going to rip RB1 you need RB2 to own it. So they make 5 bucks and a sale of RB2.
One, no sh!t about the not ripping thing. Someone already pointed that out. That's not even a part of my argument. As for if HMX makes money off of RB1...they probably still are, and that, again, wasn't a part of my argument, either. Maybe if you were actually THINKING about the points I made instead of trying to come up with smart-ass answers, then maybe you would KNOW that.
*facepalm*. Maybe you should take a trip to Blockbuster, Hollywood Video and other local shops where they give you everything. Maybe you should try to contact the people who admitted they stole the slips from those places and got rightly banned from this forum. You have no clue.
Hollywood and Blockbuster are locally-owned franchises? When did THAT happen?
Oh, and yes. I HAVE rented from these places before, and no, they do not. I'm not sure where and when you got your info (may be different in other places), but where I have lived, they never did that. And if they are really going and stealing the slips from the display boxes...then they should at the very least know better than to ADMIT that. That, to me, would be really useless and really risky. But the only time when I ever got anything special to a game was when I rented Earthbound a LONG time ago and they gave me that guide that Nintendo packed in with the game. But that was so long ago, and that was the absolute only thing they ever gave me extra (they even print instructions on the back of their boxes many times),
Obviously you didnt read the press release. The game is 50 dollars. 10 dollars cheaper. So if you pay for the export you are paying for a full price game. Again you have NO CLUE.
You know, I wasn't sure on this, like I admitted on the LAST POST! I stand corrected on this point, then.
And AGAIN (don't know how many times I have to say THIS) that I've yet to see anyone GET these codes from BB or anyplace else. Why can't you get that? Maybe you HAVE seen them do that, and again, if they are, then that is BB's fault, not the consumer, and if they give it out, then the consumer then has every right to use it because that's what's been given to them. Don't blame the consumer for something that BB shouldn't be doing. HMX should go after BB, NOT the consumer.
Let me see if I got this right, and you can say, for the UMPTEENTH TIME, that I have "no clue" (which has become your usual answer when you have nothing else to say against it). According to you:
1. You rent the game from BB. They give you the box and manual...AND THE CODE!
2. Consumer goes home, uses the code that is GIVEN to them by BB (even though they shouldn't be), exports the songs, then gives the game back without a second thought.
3. They suddenly get shafted by you and whoever else wants to claim moral victory because it's against the law to use things that are given to them by the actual people giving the code out, whether they should or shouldn't.
Please tell me how that makes sense. Makes no sense to give something that you can use only once out, but what YOU'RE doing makes LESS sense: blaming the customer over something you should be talking to BB about. That's what I'M saying. If a particular location is doing something that they shouldn't be doing, then you can't fault the customer for taking advantage of it. They probably either don't know any better, or thinking the same thing: that it's THEIR fault for giving that to them. Go ***** to BB! I'm sure they would love to hear how this whole thing seems SO wrong to you and how this is somehow THEIR fault...provided they are giving these out to people in the first place.
I never said that. Dont put words in my mouth. I said if you rent and steal the slip you are not suppporting the devs.
And again, how is being given something stealing it...oh wait:
If I left my car unlocked and running and somebody stole it, is it my fault? Yep. But its still stealing. Now if you rented the game with the slip and returned the slip, its not stealing at all. Blockbuster owns the right to use the slip, not you.
But you just said up above that if you use the slip that they gave you, then you're stealing? You....never mind! It's MY head that's about to explode because you're arguing with someone as if your life depended on it over something that I'm sure you're not so innocent about doing.
Oh, and I'm VERY sorry about your car being stolen! It wasn't me, I SWEAR!
Ive never seen that article and I dont care about it.
Yeah, because, after all, YOU'RE the one that said...oh, never mind.
GO WITHOUT. Or rent the game, enjoy the game, enjoy the songs, and when you return the game, you'll have to part with the songs. Just like if you were to rent Guitar Hero 1. Or, for that matter, ANY OTHER GAME.
Actually, the rental thing in of itself isn't being argued, I guess. Apparently, he's not saying (as I pointed out) that he's condemning everyone that renting ANY game is not supporting the devs. The issue is with something else I'm having trouble trying to see how he's coming to the conclusion he's getting to, and every time I'm answering him, he goes back and repeats the exact same thing and saying I don't have a clue and didn't read the thread. All while saying that this is a "non-issue" (why is he so defensive if this is a "non-issue?).
Also, some people have "export" confused with "45-pack of songs from major artists for only $10."
Actually, I don't think many DO have that confused.
EDIT: Also, Lego Rock Band has an MSRP of $50, which I'm well aware is less than most current-generation games.
Yeah, I saw that on Amazon.com. I could've sworn I saw 59 at the Wal Mart I was at yesterday when I bought DA:O. Maybe I misread it (or maybe it was a price tag for a different game).
Now, if I were to get this (which I probably will, anyway. The only RB game I didn't get besides the track packs is Beatles, and that's because there isn't even an option to export THOSE, which is a reason why I HAVEN'T bought it yet, and that feeling is somewhat mutual across the RB community), I would keep it long enough to get the Platinum Trophy, anyway (I AM a trophy whore, after all. I'm at level 11 right now, HAHA!).

Let me go over you first post again so you will finallly shut up:
#1 The export was ready on day 1 for the xbox. There was a delay on the PSN side of the export. Which was addressed on the day it came out by HMX. One week later the export was ready to download.
#2. Nobody accused people of renting LRB and playing it to be thieves. Only ones who stole the slips.

Let me go over you first post again so you will finallly shut up:
So you're going to tell a fellow gamer that he should "shut up" (which you're going to have a hard time doing)? I don't see why you're so offended at me debating you over this stuff. What's in it for you to act like a complete douchebag about this? And yes, you ARE being a complete douchebag.
#1 The export was ready on day 1 for the xbox. There was a delay on the PSN side of the export. Which was addressed on the day it came out by HMX. One week later the export was ready to download.
And besides the forum post you mentioned, there was no news, nothing coming up on N4G, nothing about it. Maybe you need to stop seeing the forest from the trees. Maybe I missed that, I don't know. Again, don't see where you're getting the offense from. Maybe it's point two and you needed to be *****y today.
#2. Nobody accused people of renting LRB and playing it to be thieves. Only ones who stole the slips.
And you think there is some way TO steal the slips. This is where you're not seeing where I'm coming from here. You're saying that people are stealing the slips, I'm asking how CAN they when there are no slips TO steal (besides what we assume are certain BB stores handing these things out with the games when people rent them, which is no fault of the actual consumers unless they are being held at gunpoint for them or something), and you have yet to answer that but continue to insist that people are doing so and accusing me of not knowing what I'm talking about when I am simply asking the reasoning behind your accusation that someone can "steal" such slips. Are they going behind desks or something? Are they ripping the boxes open from the aisles? What exactly are you believing they do in order to steal these slips from wherever they are supposed to be? You keep answering these questions with the exact same answer when we KNOW you believe that people rent the game and then "steal" these slips. I GOT that, we ALL do! You won't stop shoving that accusation down our throats. I'm asking for the explanation as to HOW they could possibly steal something that wouldn't be there unless someone either bought the game or being given it by who they're renting it from or doing some crazed stunt, and you won't give us a straight answer, but repeat, for the hundredth time, what you accuse people of doing. Then you go and act like a fool towards me FOR asking it.
In my mind, you really DON'T have any real explanation as to how people "steal" these things, so you repeat the same answer for all the questions I ask about it. Then again, I don't really expect any real answer out of you now because you seem intent on just repeating the same thing without any basis or reasoning.

So you admit that HMX addressed the issue.
And you think there is some way TO steal the slips.
I dont think, I know. And so do you:
besides what we assume are certain BB stores handing these things out with the games when people rent them.
I am simply asking the reasoning behind your accusation that someone can "steal" such slips.
Heres the reasoning: When you steal something, thats stealing. That take the slip from the box.
I dont care it you believe it or not, but there are plenty of rental places that leave everything in the box. Theres your reasoning. All your issues are now resolved. Move along.

Gamefly does NOT send manual or code inserts with rentals. But if/when you "keep it" they send them with the game box.

The Xbox 360 export was ready on day one, and a date when the PlayStation 3 would be ready was announced at the same place at the same time. A week later, at which point this became a moot point. Nearly two months ago.
Also, anybody expecting to keep the songs after returning the game is completely missing the point of these exports.

*snip*
It's probably not a good idea to use that much profanity in a forum for a game rated E (or was it E10+).
People who rent RB1 and perform the export aren't stealing anything, since the export is contained within the disc that they paid for the right to use within X-period of time.
The LEGO Export, however, was not contained on the disc. And required a seperate piece of documentation to actually work. Most rental shops I go to do NOT include documentation with their games at rental time. If they do where you go, good for you. If the code works they just handed you a cookie.
But if you walk into a rental shop, take the code, and walk out....that's theft. It's no different than if you had taken the slip out and left with it.

Sorry, pet peeve here:
Maybe you need to stop seeing the forest from the trees.
First off, it's "see the forest for the trees". As in, you see the big picture.
Second, it's "can't see the forest for the trees". As in, you can't step back from the details and see the big picture.
