I suppose Yogi Berra's 'It ain't over until it's over' would apply here...

PHILADELPHIA - A Philadelphia newspaper has apologized to readers for mistakenly running an ad congratulating the Philadelphia Phillies on winning back-to-back World Series titles.

The Yankees held a commanding 3-1 lead in the championship as of Monday, the day the ad was printed in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The three-quarter-page Macy’s ad is on the back of the front section and features a T-shirt with the Phillies logo, the commissioner’s trophy and the phrase “Back To Back World Series Champions.”

then athletes must be pretty damn good actors

You think Dale Earnhardt's death was fixed?

Yeah, Dale Earnhardt got a memo before the 2001 Daytona 500 and went "oh crap, I have to die today"

Sports are fixed as in who wins and loses, not every play though IMO. Perhaps nobody will ever know for sure.

Sports aren't fixed. The 2009 NBA Finals should tell you that

However, sports are manipulated. Questionable calls occur all over the place during the NBA playoffs that let teams get back into games to force game sevens. If I remember right, an analysis showed that the NBA doesn't profit from the finals unless there it goes longer than five games

If you read some of Tim Donnaghy's leaked anedotes from his book, it would really make you question the whole of the NBA.

I'm not saying that Donaghy is flat out lying, but I think he has exaggerated what goes on to an extremely high degree. I wouldn't trust 90% of his words, and I suspect he's writing exactly what people are speculating about the league

I haven't read anything about the book though, so if there is anything specific in there that should be mentioned, it would be cool to post it

I had that thought too.

Anyways, we've still got a decent chance and at least we can say we didn't go down easy.

Yeah, sports are fixed

Sorry in advance bman....

My buddy swears up and down that Super Bowl XLII was fixed as "punishment" for the Pats being caught with the camera on.

Like you can fix David Tyree's amazing hand-on-helmet catch to keep the drive alive

while that catch was massively impressive, i seem to be the only one who was impressed by Eli avoiding being sacked when they had him and getting that pass off

I was impressed that the refs actually let them play instead of whistling the play dead. Usually, that doesn't happen.

they tend to let things slide more in the playoffs, especially the Super Bowl
