View Full Version : Sticky Fret Buttons

So like...yeah, add me to the hardware problems list. My guitar (as usual) is acting up and sometimes the red and yellow fret buttons on the top of the neck (the bottom ones work but are really uncomfortable) get stuck. By stuck i mean that if i click any of them, the other will also appear as if i'm clicking it (i click red and red/yellow light up and vice-versa). Sometimes it goes away quickly, most times it doesn't. I do not live in the US and bought the game in a recent trip to the States so i have no warranty because sending the guitar back would cost me a small fortune and on top of that i would have to repay to receive it so that's out of the question. Because of that, i don't mind or care about opening up the guitar. Do any of you guys have any suggestion? Thanks!

I noticed the RB guitar is not as good as the GH 3 one. You should pick up one of those. The buttons works a lot better and it has a better feel to it.

Well i disassembled the guitar neck completely to take a look at the button mechanism and i think i'm screwed. The problem has nothing to do with the plastic button on the outside but with the actual button on the electronics board. Both buttons get activated when i hit one of them (red or yellow) and there doesn't seem to be a pattern to it. This sucks.

Upon further inspection i have now really come to the conclusion these guitars should have never passed QA (Quality Assurance). There was a slight bridge at the Red and Yellow points on the circuit board, meaning there was a small chance of both points becoming connected at any point in time. I scratched the bridge and now the guitar works perfectly.

I have the same problem as you. What is "scratch the bridge" exactly?

Meaning a blob of solder was making electrical contact between two points that shouldn't have been. He probably took a pin or knife or something and scratched/broke the electrical connection.

They did a really shoddy job of rushing out the first batch of those guitars...look at hot glue trails in them...

I noticed the hot glue trails too, but you have to admit it's mostly aesthetic. I'd rather have hot glue trails than not have them make guitars fast enough that I didn't get one or not use hotglue at all and have my connector come loose during shipping.
