I saw a thread about the PS2 and RockBand game freezing when using the drums, but that thread has been dead for 4 days and my issue is a tad different.

I got my copy of RB last night, played it for a while, and than started to notice a few twitches here and there, one song (Foo Fighters maybe) the audio wasn't synced (though I did calibrate before starting to play) and a couple other games had a skip or two.
Than came the big piss off. Get down to Detroit Rock City, go to load the song and the thing freezes. Ok, so turn it off, start it back up and notice the game is taking a while to load, finally loads, I continue my band and skip DRC and play a couple more songs from that set, than Electric Version by The New Pornographers locks up the PS2 when trying to load. I reset, go back to my band and start playing some of the bonus songs. I did manage to get through a few before, yet again another song (I Get By by Honest Bob) locks up the system.
So now I am thinking maybe the lens IS dirty (shouldn't be, I give it a clean on a regular basis) so I clean it, try another game (Guitar Hero 1) no issues. Try Rock Band and this time it won't even read the disc at start up! I try another game (Guitar Hero 2) no problem. I try Transformers (brand new, me and gf exchanged our xmas gifts and that is how I got the movie AND the game) and the movie plays no problems.
Ok, so now I think maybe whatever was happening is straightened out. I try Rock Band again, and this time I actually get past the loading screen of the one song that was locking the system up, but than right before the song comes up the game stops, yet the clapping continues, and keeps going and going, but no song.
So I power off, try ANOTHER game (this time Socom: CA) and well what do you know, that game works too. So I try playing Rock Band again and now it is back to not reading the disc!

Ok, so as in the other thread I was reading, someone said to take it back to where you got it and get an exchange. I am just about to do that. Figured I would write my experience as I saw one other fellow talking about the same experience on another site and thought it would be a good idea to write this down in case someone else has the same issue. Oh and I am playing the game that did NOT come in the bundle. I am playing the game that is packaged on its own. I am also using the red octane guitar that game in the Guitar Hero 2 bundle.

Sorry for the long post, but I was so excited when I unwrapped this game last night and loved playing it, but than so bitterly pissed off now that it is pretty much a coaster.

One question, old PS2 or new slim-line PS2? I've read more stuff about people seeing freezing and glitches with the original version (launch day design) of the PS2. I have yet to hear of any problems playing with the slim-line version.

Your best bet is to either exchange it where you got it or RMA through EA. Here's the EA link.

Good luck!

Gee whiz! Thought I covered all the bases, but forgot to specify which PS2 I was using! :o

Slim line, model number SCPH-70011.

I am heading out the door to go yell at someone right now! :p

UPDATE FOR ANYONE INTERESTED: I was able to return the game from where it was purchased for a CASH refund! I might try this game again a little on down the road. Maybe by than all these issues everyone seems to have will be sorted out. (maybe i will have a 'next gen' console too!)
