View Full Version : Harmonix Song Pack

Here's an idea that I haven't heard mentioned before...
One of the main reasons why Harmonix is so successful at creating music games like Rock Band is because they know first-hand what it's like to be in a band, and how exciting that experience is. Not only that, but the bands they're in are damn good too. So this brings an obvious suggestion- The Harmonix bands should release a couple DLC packs too. And in case you guys are the kind of people that like those whole factual list things, here's my reasons why-
1) They already have a considerable fan base. Bands like The Acro-Brats, Anarchy Club, Vagiant, Freezepop and Bang Camaro have already racked up quite a bit of praise for their songs across the GH and Rock Band games. It's obvious they've got some people that support them.
2) The guys (and girls) in these bands helped make the game. Because of that simple fact, licensing wouldn't be much of a problem now would it? ;D
3) There's a possibility it could be FREE. Like I said, these bands are made up of Harmonix crew. The reason we pay for DLC is because of licensing fees correct? Well, since they wouldn't have to worry about paying the record execs to release these songs...what else is there left to pay for? :3
DISCLAIMER: As is commonplace in community forums such as this, there's always the possibility that I'm just an idiot, or that my opinion's really not valid at all. And that's fine, I just thought I'd share my thoughts with the community that would listen. Any comments or criticism is greatly welcomed and appreciated. ^^

I'd buy a pack that included "Science Genius Girl" and "Super Sprøde".

I'd love a Drist pack.

I wouldn't mind a Drist pack either, but last I checked they broke up. I think they mentioned it in a GH2 loading screen or something...
...Still, if I'm remembering correctly the guitarist guy (That was Marcus Henderson, correct?) Started a band called The Grim Ripper, but I think Marcus is still doing the Guitar Hero games, so that'd be a conflict of interests on his part...and lord knows Activision doesn't need more fuel for the proverbial fires...

I'd love some more Acro-brats, Honest Bob, ad Bang Camaro, and I wouldn't be upset with most other Harmonix bands.

Yeah, I would go for some more Bang Camero, in fact I am considering buying their album in real life.

I would definitely love some more Bang Camaro and Anarchy Club. Freezepop and Drist (not likely) would be great too.

My top Harmonix bands would personally be:
1. Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives
2. The Amazing Crowns
3. The Acro-Brats or Bang Camaro
One of those things is not like the others, one of those things is not in game.
Seriously though, the Amazing Crowns, guys. We need some rockabilly-type stuff (we, really, we probably need some of what rockabilly is imitating, but rockabilly's still good). The majority of their CD Royal would be pretty awesome in my opinion, especially Mr. Fix-It (it's good enough to be two games, guys), Hat Size, Still Royal, and Chop Shop, as those are the songs that come to mind by name (in order).
That said, some more of the bands I listed, or the bands mentioned in here would be rad, too.
I'd also like some Count Zero, but word on the street that's gonna happen, so neat. Izzy Maxwell's kinda scary-looking, on a tangent.
Best for last: All of This by Shaimus. I don't care much for their other stuff, but I mean, the song is pretty jammin' and has a built-in big rock ending. Come on, now.

I'm loving these suggestions guys. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if Harmonix has this planned already, maybe even as somewhat of a Christmas present for us? (And we all know presents are free...)
Speaking of plans, I didn't know about the rumors of Count Zero showin' up. That would be awesome, anything with Izzy's name attached to it is usually always gold.

Big yes to more Harmonix band songs. I'd especially love a Vagiant DLC pack, non-censored though.

I badly want some more Honest Bob, specifically "All of the Cool Girls."
It's on their Myspace if you want to check it out (hint: do it) http://www.myspace.com/honestbobandthefactorytodealerincentives

I'll take some Freezepop, but I'd prefer songs that haven't been in other games yet. How about Bike Thief or something off the new album?

I should note that, although free would be nice as the thread starter mentioned, I'd definitely pay for some Honest Bob.

I've got an idea for a way to put Harmonix bands in the game as DLC without interrupting the regular flow. Put in their covers with the songs they're covering.
For example, The Acrobrats have a pretty badass cover of Crash (http://youtube.com/watch?v=AQFo2-xZiks) by The Primitives and Honest Bob and the Factory-to-Dealer Incentives have a hilarious cover of Head Like A Hole (http://youtube.com/watch?v=6lzb-jYZrLE) by Nine Inch Nails. I'm sure we can find a good cover by Bang Camaro, Count Zero, Vagiant, or Tribe.
If HMX releases both the covers and the versions by the artist that made it famous, that would be a good way to make sure people don't complain about not getting any well-known songs.

That would be a great idea. I'm a big fan of cover songs. And even if the other bands haven't done a cover yet, they could very well just do one specifically for the game. I could picture Vagiant covering something from like, The Distillers or something. And Bang Camaro could do practically any 80's hair metal song with ease...though personally I would see them being able to pull off Balls To The Wall easily.
...Speaking of which, you wouldn't know where I would be able to hear these cover tracks, would you? xD

Actually, my favorite part of the covers is the change of genre (i.e. The Acro-brats punking up a Pop Rock track or Honest Bob making a Goth song Poppy.) So, while for example, Bang Camaro could easily cover something like You Give Love A Bad Name, I'd prefer it if they made a Hair Metal-esque cover of something like Another Brick in the Wall or Subterranean Homesick Blues or Hang On Sloopy.

You can find a free sample of the Honest Bob song (http://cdbaby.com/cd/hbatfi2) on this page and The Acro-brats song (http://www.emusic.com/album/The-Acrobrats-Go-Down-Swinging-MP3-Download/11009378.html) here.

Now that you mention it, they do seem oddly qualified to pull that off. Their unique approach to vocals could give that song the appropriately epic tone it deserves.
And if cross-genre covers are your thing, then maybe having Vagiant do something utterly absurd like say, Pieces Of Me by Ashlee Simpson? But your plan was also to have the original song go with it...(Personally though, I could see Vagiant giving that song a very awesome Punk ethic to it.)
Oh, and thanks for those links. That Honest Bob cover almost made me laugh, that was such a great reinterpretation of that song.
