different ps3 gh guitar question

I have the guitar hero guitar for ps3 to use while I'm waiting for my rock band guitar to get back. I was just wanting to know if I could buy other guitar hero games for ps2 and use the ps3 gh guitar with the ps2 games. I know I should post on the guitar hero forum but I don't want to have to join another forum just to ask one question. Anyone here done this?

The strat can't be used to play any Playstation2 Guitar Hero games , I know it sucks..

In all of Activisions ******ed wisdom they decided that backwards/cross compatibility wasn't necessary, so you can ONLY use the GH3 guitar with GH3.
