Ok, so the first 16 Best Songs are finally done. What should the next 16 be?
My thoughts are currently:
Pearl Jam
Queensryche
Alice in Chains
The Who
David Bowie
Rage Against the Machine
Nine Inch Nails
The White Stripes
Kansas
Deep Purple
Billy Joel
Run-D.M.C.
Soundgarden
Alice Cooper
Aerosmith
AC/DC
Thoughts?

I'll second Sonic Youth none up there right now that I oppose I would add:
Death
Melvins
Scorpions
Joy Division/New Order (as Necker had already, but needs New Order as well)
The Moody Blues
The Cure
EDIT: Elton John (thought I saw him on the list)

Definitely agree with The Who, David Bowie, Deep Purple, Run - D.M.C., Alice Cooper, The White Stripes, AC/DC, and Pearl Jam. While I'd probably vote on any of those listed, I'd suggest these as replacements:
The Clash
Sonic Youth
Pixies
The Velvet Underground
The Kinks
Silversun Pickups
Neil Young
The Rolling Stones
neckermanncj

Silversun Pickups
i thought about it too, but they only have like 25 songs. the only reason for them to be considered is because of their popularity on these forums
Joy Division/New Order (as Necker had already, but needs New Order as well)

I don't think any of my votes would be for any New Order songs TBH just a good way to include more songs like Guns N' Roses and Velvet Revolver were done together
Also Parliament/Funkadelic and Talking Heads :)

Actually, on second thought, don't do Beck, because I know I'll be really disappointed when the bracket turns out to be "Loser" vs. "Sexx Laws" vs. "Where It's At" vs. "E-Pro" vs. "Gamma Ray".
Also Parliament/Funkadelic and Talking Heads :)

Bands I think I'll definitely do are Queensryche (bias) and The Who.
I'm also probably gonna throw in Sonic Youth.
Won't consider Beck till AC stops being bipolar.

Although I can guess at least 3 of these will be in the top 5
Revolution Calling
Queen Of The Reich
Eyes Of A Stranger
I Don't Believe In Love
Silent Lucidity
Out of those 2 of them would be in my top 5

Acts I definitely agree with:
Pearl Jam(at least because they were supposed to be in last bracket)
Queensryche
Alice in Chains
The Who
David Bowie
Alice Cooper
Deep Purple
Acts I would respect if they made it:
Rage Against the Machine
Run-D.M.C.
Soundgarden
Aerosmith
Acts that make me think wtf:
Nine Inch Nails
The White Stripes
Kansas
Billy Joel
AC/DC
Any love for Prince, Velvet Underground, Thin Lizzy, or The 'Mats?

NIN is definitely not a WTF choice, but the others I could see, especially if you say Billy Joel but no Elton John.
Id go with:
Velvet Underground
Joy Division
NIN
Elton John
The Cure
Alice in Chains
Smashing Pumpkins
The Rolling Stones (have they been done already?)
The Who
The Doors
U2
Sublime
System of a Down
CSNY
Grateful Dead (done already?)
Johnny Cash
actually, can you post the previous 16 for reference sake?

Talking Heads
Sonic Youth
Andrew WK
King Crimson
Billy Joel
Cypress Hill
Alan Parsons Project
Tom Waits
Elvis Costello
Cyndi Lauper
Beck
Yardbirds
Simon & Garfunkel
Ben Folds
Alice Cooper
Evilbottom
11-06-2009, 05:04 AM
Death
Atheist
Judas Priest
King Diamond
Dream Theater
David Bowie
Pixies
Porcupine Tree
The Smiths
Cream
Deep Purple
Rainbow
Epica
King Crimson
Slayer
Mastodon
I'm not actually suggesting these 16 for the whole thing, but a lot have yet to be mentioned so I thought I ought to bring them into the conversation.

My thoughts are currently:

The Who
David Bowie
Rage Against the Machine
Nine Inch Nails
The White Stripes
Kansas

Ok, so I've decided on some locks:
Queensryche
The Who
Sonic Youth
Alice Cooper
Deep Purple
Run-D.M.C.
David Bowie
Alice in Chains
Pearl Jam
That's 9/16 spots filled.
Seven left.

Ok, guys, let's decide the last 7 spots BS style.
Everyone just suggest which 5 bands they think should be in the last 7 spots, then I'll throw up a multi-choice poll.
Mine are:
NIN
Billy Joel
Aerosmith
AC/DC
Kansas
Edit: For the sake of my sanity, just take these five in your post and add to the list, and if you are backing an artist currently on it, just add the number of votes it has.

Five...Cream doesn't get an implied spot :p
And since my edit is too difficult for schiz: this is what I mean:
Ok, so lets take my suggestions:
NIN
Billy Joel
Kansas
AC/DC
Aerosmith
Lets say the next person wants:
AC/DC
Kansas
Cream
The Kinks
Slayer
Their post would be:
NIN
Billy Joel
Kansas (2)
AC/DC (2)
Aerosmith
Cream
The Kinks

well, if no one listens to a band that posts here, there is no point for a thread that no one (or very little) will post in, now is there?
wrong aschiz....based off the bands already done, its fair to say that we're looking at popularly known/mainstream acts that have been established for some time...however wide or thin you want to apply that definition. and frankly, we have a lot of posters on the forum that reject mainstream or do not listen to a lot of those bands, but have participated anyways in acknowledgment of those bands' achievements. we basically started with Rock N Roll Hall of Fame artists/bands and have expanded from there
so yes, I think saying that a criteria based off what posters listen to is a poor gauge for what bands are now going to be considered. I mean seriously...which bands would YOU honestly recommend, Mr Prog-nosticator. I know which ones I would, but have bit my tongue and offered alternative bands given the conditions set by previous selectees

or you can go look again, i have my list of 16, and if you actually read some posts sometime you'd see i agree with some bands on Quin's list, now, let's go to common sense
if Band A isn't very well liked on the part of the forum who participates in these Best Song threads, then there is no point on including them, if you are gonna make a thread that revolves around a band that isn't liked, it will not get many posts and is a waste of time, the point is to get people to participate and have a good discussion about music, not to post about Poster X's fav. or somewhat liked band that only Posters R, Y, T, N, O, and K like, then it will get 6 or 7 posts and probably some people who go in and say "Band A sucks"
ergo, putting a band in that people don't like makes no sense, why waste a spot when you can put in a more well liked band that will get a lot of responses and have a good discussion, which would be the actual point of this thread

I disagree, I feel like their self titled debut and The Battle For Los Angeles are must-haves for a well-rounded album collection.
We may have to just agree to disagree on that one, though. You can't deny that they've had a tremendous impact on modern music, however.
