Playing other songs from Lego Real People

When you play other songs from artists that appear as characters in Lego Rock Band do you play those songs as them?

For example, if I play a Spinal Tap song that works with the game and is not Short & Sweet will you be playing as Spinal Tap during that song or do they only play Short & Sweet?

Also, what about the cover versions of Blur & David Bowie songs do they play those?

I played Crazy Little Thing Called Love and it was Queen so I assume it works for all of them.

I don't beleive the Bowie or Blur covers will be played with the actual band.

i don't think so

i got song 2 in a mystery setlist and played it as my regular band...i think you only play as the band that first time you play their song

i still haven't beaten the game yet though so i dunno for sure

i'm thinking in quick play it will probably be the actual bands

In Quick play, Bowie does show up for the Heroes cover. I don't think any Blur song besides Song 2 is playable in the game. Queen does show up for Queen DLC in quickplay, and I assume that's true for Spinal Tap as well.

It doesn't appear to be possible to choose any of the DLC for in-game bands during make-a-setlists in Story mode. I don't know what's up with that. I noticed that they do pop up in Mystery setlists, and when they do, you play as your normal band and not the celebrity band. I also noticed when I picked Let's Dance for a make-a-setlist, I played as my regular band.
