View Full Version : Pre-Order?

I finally broke down and ventured to the dismal abyss that is known as "GameStop" to pre-order my copy of Rock Band.
Nothing will keep me from it! Nay to you oh vile treacherous hard-selling peon! I shall not pre-order the wretched abomination that is Madden 2008! After an hour or so of frustration, the uninspired wage-slave was able to comprehend the aincient Point-Of-Sale program and delivered to me my absolution... Ah yes, finally...
So anyway, Will you be pre-ordering? I think that this one is going to be a tough one to get considering the cost to ship and stock. And if I know GameStop (which I do) they will send as few as possible apart from those who reserved it.

Once all the packages and pricing is official I'll be pre-ordering it, I don't know where from yet, maybe gamestop, even though I don't like them that much. I'm not going to risk having to go find this game at a store, and find the right kind of bundle, I'll just get it all delivered to my doorstep.

I don't pre order for two reasons.
Reason one being, I hate when you pre order something and don't/can't get it faster than it being available in retail.
Two, I don't even have a "next gen" system yet. So no use in me pre ordering untill then. It'd be dumb to have a game I can't even play.
Pre ordering can be sketchy. Sometimes it works, other times it doesn't. Its 50-50.

"A big stupid doo doo head!" (Bill Cosby voice)
But yea, I already pre-ordered the so-called "bundle". Even though this isn't confirmed, I hope it's what they go with. Essentially it's like getting the game for free, because you save $60 than buying all the stuff separate.

I don't even have the system to play rock band yet, but i am afraid that if I wait till it is in stores, they will run out to fast. so i am probably gonna pre-order the game.
TheTogfather
07-19-2007, 05:32 AM
Yah, I'm gonna wait until we know more facts, such as packaging and cost and what-not, but I'll be pre-ordering from somewhere. I know it's sometimes considered taboo, but I've never had a problem with Best Buy pre-orders, and with the anticipated size of this game, they're going to be one of the few places that will have the stock space necessary...

I'm going to one of those buggers all the people who don't preorder absolutely hate when I'm walking out of the store with my huge bundle of instruments and there's no more left in the store.
So, yeah, the answer is I most certainly am going to pre-order it. I want it on release day and not a day later. That's why I'm going into EB tonight to put some money down on it.

Still, better to be at the top of a list than at the bottom and possibly miss out on the initial shipment. Who knows what it's going to be like come release date. I'd rather ensure I have a copy now, than risk it later. Besides, it only costs me $5 to reserve my copy now, so it's all good

I'm with IB. I have'nt even decided on what system to buy yet. It would be nice if you copuld buy it direct like I did with GH2. I got it delivered to my doorstep on release day. Dunno if EA works like that though... It is way too early to decide on anything yet.

As soon as best buy offers a bundle preorder i'll get it. Gamespot is getting a ton of preorders probably, and i doubt theyll be able to fulfill them all.
As soon as amazon, circuit city or best buy get a bundle preorder i'll do it.

Gamestop doesnt do it by list. They take as many preorders as possible, and then give them out when they get their shipment first come first serve. so you could preorder first and show up last and not get it.
Having it shipped to you is probably different, i may have it shipped from gamestop if i get too impatient lol
newwaytodie
07-19-2007, 08:46 AM
Gamestop goes to the publisher with thier pre-order numbers and orders that many plus a few extras (if possible).
Also, it is possible to create a list based on order of reservation so that you don't get shafted on release day (first come, first serve). Like I said though, barring any horribly ******ed Gamestop manager errors. (GameStop ******ation is on a store by store basis, with a larger percent belonging to the southern states and urban areas)
Eman311
07-19-2007, 08:54 AM
lol yea my buddy preordered Gears of War and they completely sold his copy and then made him wait 4-5 days to get it. I've heard similar stories on many forums. I plan on ordering online with a credit card and having it shipped. The only problem with that is your credit card will set aside the money used to buy and the charge wont go through until release. So essentially you have that dead weight credit charge, and id lose 200 bucks on my credit limit for the next four months.

I will pre-order until I figure out the price for this game. GH3 price estimate=$90, Rock Band price estimate=$180 considering that periiherals are $30 like GH2 on 360.

Bad logic. most estimates list the drums at 80, guitars at 80 and the mic at 30
To buy an extra GH2 360 controller cost like 50-60 bucks, not 30. you always got a deal with the bundle
Guitarplayer777

i say just buy the bundle, and if you want an extra guitar buy a guitar hero controller-they are cheaper

I'm going to wait a little while before pre-ordering, but I plan to. Only because we have a Best Buy going up right down the road; they're hiring now.
How does Best Buy track their pre-orders? I think GameStop keeps them in on index files in a box :( That's pretty ghetto.
Eman311
07-19-2007, 02:16 PM
Best Buy puts little boxes out. you bring it to the register and scan it like any other item. You then get your reciept and that is your pre-sell ticket that when it comes out you bring that to customer service, show them the reciept and get your preorder. pretty simple and effective. this way it goes into their system how many copiues they need just for preorder.

Ditto with an added when we get any info for the UK/Europe DLC aspect as i live there and i don't want Europe being ripped off like it always is with DLC not being the same or waiting weeks even months later for something that the U.S has had since day one.

With something like Rock Band, a large box for which there's only so much room to store local stock in a store, it's certainly a wise idea to do a pre-order. Though I'd do it anywhere but Gameshaft, but that's just because of bad experiences I've had with that particular chain.
I too intend to pre-order the moment we have official prices/configurations, as I'm in the want to avoid a wired controller if at all possible on the 360 camp.. which probably needs a shorter name, or at least a wittier acronym than WtAaWCiaPot360C.
Electric_Zen
08-15-2007, 01:40 AM
Yeah, I already have two wired guitars, so I'm not preordering a bundle that gives me another, with or without an effect switch.
I'll be looking to get game-drums-mic at launch, and maybe a wireless guitar if they have one for 360. I'll wait to see how the bundles are set up before I place my preorder. There's a good chance I may just preorder a drum-game bundle, and then shop around for a mic I like.

I'm really split on whether or not to pre-order. But if/when I do, it'll only be after a finalized price has been announced by HMX/EA/MTV. I don't want any extra zeroes tagged onto the end of that price..lol That'd be horrible.
newwaytodie
08-15-2007, 07:16 AM
Just cancel the pre-order if it ends up being too much. And then proceed to laugh at the poor schlub at GameStop for having a bunch of huge boxes that he has to put somewhere.

Wow...thread starter, I like the cut of your jib. To answer your question, yes I've already pre-ordered this game, the bundle in fact. I'm with the "I'll pre-order after price confirmation" crowd. If the rumored Game + 1 guitar + 1 mic + 1 drum kit bundle for $200 turns out to be true, I'm all over that. On the fence about if I want wired or wireless so I'll take what ever the bundle gives me.

Considering the size of the box(es), potential number of different configurations, and store's limited shelf/inventory space; I'd say it's quite possible that it will be difficult to simply walk into a store and buy Rock Band for a while after release. Heck it's happend before when people had a heck of a time getting a second guitar for GH1/2 because stores didn't want to dedicate said shelf/inventory space to the guitar alone.

i had a friend preorder the bundle for me when he went to put in his own preorder at a local store. hopefully they get enough to fulfill all the preorders as i have no idea how many others preordered the game and if they sell in order that preorders were made or first come first serve amongst the preorders.
im starting to get the vibe that peripheral production may not be up to speed as we imagined (reason for late release overseas to accomodate US holiday sales?) and that it may be possible that demand could surpass supply like the wii initially did. if that's the case maybe those that really want to have this game on launch day should seriously consider putting in a preorder now in case the early preorders tap out your store's launch day supply.
im not trying to start any rumors, just wanted to share a thought with you all.

Exactly AVC!! If you really want this on day one, then pre-ordering is going to be your best option. If the pricing that's up on Amazon or GS right now, isn't what the final pricing is going to be, I'll bet it's pretty damn close. So my advice is to pre-order what you want now. Even if somehow the pricing does come out at some outlandish number, it's not like you're not going to break down and buy it at some point anyway.

I reserved it because I was burned by the last $200 game, Steel Battallion. Didn't reserve it and when I went to buy it, learned they only made 150,000 - 200,000 units and they all got reserved. So, even though this is way more likely to be available after reserves, I'm not one to keep touching the electrified cheese, if you know what I mean.

no returns on preorders? if you can return preorders i'll explain what i do. i like to buy my blu ray movies through amazon because they are cheap, like 40% off prices in circuit city or best buy. but i dont like to wait for the movie to arrive since it's mailed by super saver shipping (actually it's pretty quick, but i rarely get it on release day). so what i end up doing is ordering on amazon. go to the store to buy a 2nd copy of the movie on the release day. watch it. wait for my amazon copy to come in the mail. return that sealed copy with receipt to store. sure it's a little extra work, but it's worth it in my opinion since im always driving past the store.
so what im sayin is if the place you preorder from accepts returns. preorder it, and if you see a promotion at circuit city or whatever, buy it again. then return the sealed bundle to the place you preordered from and keep the bonus points or whatever you save.

Exactly. I work at ebgames. I've seen 360 GH2 launch and GH2 for ps2. We don't receive that many in on the first day. And it took us about a month to get a new batch for 360. Most people think reserving is paying money to be able to buy one the first day. You are, but the money goes towards the final price. Its stupid not to do it. first post here, just thought I'd say that I preordered the game at ebgames, I rarely ever preorder games but I took the exception to this one seeing that it will be popular and that everyone will be getting the bundle, and obviously stores are not going to stockpile the bundle, I'm thinking each store has maybe 10-20 being that it will be so big. Anyway one other thing that I noticed is circuitcity.com under their description of the bundle it says this...
Rock Band Bundle for Xbox 360 (014633159110)
ELA 014633159110
? For Xbox 360
? Wired guitars and drums
? Software
? Microphone
now that is most likely a typing error given the price and all but what do you guys think of the possibilty of the bundle having 2 guitars?

The only problem I see with that is "Wired", which is why I went with the PS3 version. Wireless is essential.

Bought my 360 yesterday and pre-ordered Rock Band.
Went back today to exchange the 360 since the laser wasn't aligned properly.
OFF TO A GOOD START.~
Edit: Oh, and apparently I'm the only person to have pre-ordered it in the city where I live, so I think I'm set. ;)
