View Full Version : Fat Bottomed Girls = Family Friendly?

I was quite shocked to find that I Want To Break Free, Another One Bites the Dust, and Somebody to Love were not "family friendly" but Fat Bottomed Girls was. Magic Bus, Who Are You, and Take It On the Run shocked a bit too. I was wondering if Harmonix was done adding songs to the "family friendly" list.

Aww. They should at least have told us the criteria of the song filter or something.
To stay on topic, Fat Bottom Girls seem kind of sexual, unless I'm mistaken.

Sweet. Weird though, since it's a song about Pete's alcohol abuse.

Everyone knows Kids + Fire is bad M-kay...
And Ghostbusters? Clearly a hate song... Poor ghosts, they should not be persecuted like that...
Kung Fu Fighting? Violence as entertainment? Oh my goodness...
Think of the children...

Kids don't really know what drugs are. When I was a kid, I thought cigars and drugs were the same. Don't Stop Believin kind of shocked me. It doesn't have anything that a kid would notice. Jimmy Buffet songs are happy, so I still think Cheeseburger could be in.

Alcohol refrence. and
There is no songs with alcohol references in lego.
So What by Pink. It is an on disk song.
It mentions, "So i’m gonna drink my money", Along with talking about "sit next to Tom boy" who will know how to "hit this"(maybe i am taking this one out of context but i work around kids and they all know what this means), and it repeats over and over again about someone starting a fight. While I have no particular problem with this song it just does not seem kid friendly to me.

Along with talking about "sit next to Tom boy" who will know how to "hit this"(maybe i am taking this one out of context but i work around kids and they all know what this means),
Exact line:
"I guess I'll go sit with drum boy, at least he'll know how to hit"
Either that or I'm reading my vocalist text wrong.

The in game vocals may say that (I am not a vocalist) but that is not what the original lyrics say. I guess it may have been censored, wouldn't suprise me.
Like I said before, the song doesn't bother me at all. My Kids listen to whatever they want and I guarantee that no music will have them out there killing people or stealing cars or dealing drugs etc, and it will not be because a video game music filter or censorship was in place.

Win.
I'm sort of surprised about Fat Bottomed Girls, and Killer Queen didn't. The only possible bad thing in that is "killer", but still that's stretching it and has nothing to do with killing.
People were saying Don't Stop Believing didn't make it? I guess because it mentions wine. I guess the mention of alcohol, even though the kids are all aware and their parents talk about it, will make them want to impulsively drink.

I want to break free is actually about the womens liberation movement and the video was a nod to a popular british soap opera. Neither have anything to do with "coming out"
Which brings me to the fact that the song is awesome and deserves to make it through the filter! The only reason I can see why it didn't is bolded:
I want to break free
I want to break free
I want to break free from your lies
Youre so self satisfied I don't need you
Ive got to break free
God knows God knows I want to break free
Ive fallen in love
Ive fallen in love for the first time
And this time I know it's for real
Ive fallen in love yeah
God knows God knows Ive fallen in love
Its strange but it's true
I can't get over the way you love me like you do
But I have to be sure
When I walk out that door
Oh how I want to be free baby
Oh how I want to be free
Oh how I want to break free
But life still goes on
I can't get used to living without living without
Living without you by my side
I don't want to live alone hey
God knows got to make it on my own
So baby can't you see
Ive got to break free
Ive got to break free
I want to break free yeah
I want I want I want I want to break free....
But Uncle John's Band made it through and it contains (and it's not censored):
Well the first days are the hardest days,
Don't you worry any more, 'Cause when life looks like easy
Street, there is danger at your door.
Think this through with me, let me know your mind.
Woh - oh, what I want to know, is are you kind?
It's a buck dancer's choice my friend; better take my advice.
You know all the rules by now and the fire from ice.
Will you come with me, won't you come with me?
Woh - oh, what I want to know, will you come with me?
Goddamn, well I declare, have you seen the like?
Their walls are built of cannonballs, their motto is
Don't tread on me. Come hear Uncle John's Band playing
To the tide, come with me, or go alone.
It's the same story the crow told me;
It's the only one he knows.
Like the morning sun you come and like the wind you go.
Ain't no time to hate, barely time to wait,
Woh - oh, what I want to know, where does the time go?
I live in a silver mine and I call it Beggar's Tomb;
I got me a violin and I beg you call the tune
Anybody's choice, I can hear your voice.
Woh - oh, what I want to know, how does the song go?
Come hear the Uncle John's Band by the riverside
Got some things to talk about, here beside the risin' tide
Come hear Uncle John's Band playing to the tide,
Come on along, or go alone,
He's come to take his children home.
Woh - oh, what I want to know, how does the song go?

Got some things to talk about here beside the risin' tide.

As I stated earlier in this thread (or was it one of the other content filter threads?), Don't Stop Believing is about 2 people hooking up in a smoky bar and having a 1 night stand. Doesn't surprise me at all that this one didn't make it in.

Also Call Me transfered and it mentions sharing the wine, plus is about getting your freak on. So if Wine is acceptable why not Cheeseburger in Paradise's reference to cold beer and if hooking up is acceptable in Call Me why not Don't Stop?

As long as it's the Jonathan Coulton cover! :p
OP: You mentioned "Take It On the Run" being included in LRB. Oddly, my girlfriend wanted to sing that earlier and we noticed that it wasn't available. Is it possible that the song slipped through by mistake somehow?

I think "Big kosher pickle" also is considered phallic. (KIDDING!)
When my wife sings Cheeseburger in Paradise in RB2 around my son, she sings "Big kosher pickle and a cold root beer". But seriously, he knows what beer is. I even let him taste it so he'd see how awful it tastes (when you're a kid anyway)
On a side note, I find it funny that on American Pie on Band Hero, they censored out the word "whiskey" but not "rye".

Exactly. I listen to music for the rhythm and melody, not the lyrics. The voice is just like any other instrument (it's what makes "Runnin' With the Devil" so catchy), except more versatile, and anyone can sing without any "practice", per se. Some things are better when you take them at face value.

I'm surprised people are making such a big deal about Fat Bottomed Girls to the point where it gets it's own successful thread but nothing about Suddenly I See which constantly has the phrase "Why the hell?" and isn't even DLC but on the disc so it was intended for LRB use.

I don't understand why Someone to Love didn't make the cut. There doesn't seem to be anything offensive about it.
A lot of people have speculated that any kind of religious reference will trigger the filter (though some have slipped through), and Somebody to Love has several instances of "Lord," including the very specific "I have spent all my years in believing you," so while I agree that it's completely inoffensive, there's something that somebody might have flagged.

I don't think it's that, since they have the phrase '...she loves Jesus...' in 'Free Fallin' ' So.... I think it's all just up for our speculation on how the filter works :p

On-disc songs definitely go by different rules than the imported DLC. The ESRB had to screen all the songs for the disc, but HMX had to screen the import songs themselves, and they likely opted to "play it safe" more on the import side.
But yeah, it's all speculation for us. We don't know who specifically is making these decisions, or what their criteria might be.
On a related note, did a song with the word "Goddamn" really make it onto the Family Friendly list? If so, that's a huuuge oversight no matter who's judging it.

One bar one night

Though I'm pretty sure it means "bar" in the musical sense, the filter design would mean it's not a surprise if that got zapped for being an alcohol reference.
Somebody To Love I have no idea, other then the initial verse mentions die a little.
