I don't particularly like rhythm, as I play lead/solo guitar in real life as well. I just can't stand playing the same chords over and over, so for me this kinda music is where it's at. Although, I'm definitely not opposed to other stuff... I just want it to be fun :)

it'd be kind of wierd with some game theme songs like mario, zelda, or others like that but halo would be pretty neat

Theres a guitar mix of Mario main theme on youtube in guitar hero. Lots of older video game music had like 4 "instruments". Megaman X music would be good since it all sounds like rock. Just add guitar tracks and bass tracks, and drum tracks. Singer can take a break for once.
