Rockband keeps freezing in most songs on my PS2. There's also a delay in sound. I'm hitting the notes, it's just delayed, then it's like it can handle it and freezes periodically, and then just freezes without coming back. I have one of the older TV's, so I see no need for calibration. Tried it anyways and didn't help. I did have to buy the PS3 bundle, and PS2 game, but the guitar does work. Have yet to try the drums, but I dont see how this would make the game freeze anyways. I have the slim version of PS2. Most other games won't freeze unless they're scratched bad, dirty, or occasionally run for a long, long time. Could I have gotten a bad disc? It doesn't appear scratched.

I did the same as you. Bought the PS3 bundle. I have an older PS2 (SCPH-30001r) and the bundle works flawlessly. I have the video connected to my widescreen crt and the audio to my Sony surround and there is no lag at all. From your description, I would guess that either the laser in your console is dirty (remember, this is probably the most complex and sophisticated software you will ever play in your PS2) or the disk is bad as you say. Try a DVD laser cleaner (sold just about everywhere) and if that doesn't work check your PS2 manual and get into the games system configuration menu and see if the disk speed is set to fast, if it is, change it to standard and try again. If all this fails, it's got to be the disk.

Can you guys tell me if the other components - drums and mic work? I did the same thing for my son and bought the ps3 bundle and the ps2 disk but can't open it until Christmas morning, so I can't test beforehand.
thanks

I just got the rock band package for ps2 and when I play 2 songs, and then when i choose my 3rd song and it is loading it will stop loading and i will have to get up and reset the ps2. Does anyone! know what the deal is with this and how i can fix it so i can get regular play out of my game. Please reply back. Thanks a lot.

I did look at the disk speed and it's on standard. I even set it to fast. I played around a good bit with the configuration menu. Nothing changed. I then set it back to standard. I also exchanged for another copy of the game. It seems to be even worse. Both of them take a while to even come up when you first put it in. The second one even longer due to periodic freezing even when loading. I have one of those lens cleaners but it wont recognize it "Failed to Read Disc" message. It used to work in my older PS2 that I wore slap out. I wished I still had an older model or fatty as I call it. I'm gonna try and get another lens cleaner tommorow. I still think it's the game tho, by it being even worse than the first one. They came from the same place, so probably the same run of the mill. I've just never had a bad brand new disc, or to maybe in this case. But this game is presenting problems for all sorts of things and all platforms. Thanks for the suggestions and info. Glad to see it worked for you.

I strongly suggest you find a way to test it out gerngaus. If you have a Guitar Hero Guitar you can test the PS2 game disk without opening the PS3bundle box. I've heard from a lot of posters on different sites talking of the freeze up. Send your son out with your spouse or relative and test it out. He may be reluctant, but he will be disappointed if the disk doesn't work on Christmas morning. I didn't try my drums or mic, but the guitar worked fine, it's just the game freezing. Others have said they work fine. PS2 and PS3 components are the same. The PS2 bundle just comes with a usb hub for the ability to plug and play all instruments together. PS3 bundle doesn't have the hub cause it already has 4 USB ports.

Mine does this too, sometimes it acts like it's done loading and to go to the song and it has a black screen. Your disk might have stopped spinning. Do you have the slim PS2? I know what you mean. Hard to advance or have any fun like that.

I fixed mine somewhat. I did the alcohol and swab thing. With just a little rubbing alcohol on the end of a swab I gently stroked the laser lens. Still freezes a little but usually comes back and if not i start over and usaually can finish the song. Sometimes a can play an hour without the freeze. Much better than before.
