View Full Version : Does the Rock Band camp take the Wii as seriously as the Guitar Hero camp?

I love Rock Band, I love what HMX has done, and I'm not meaning to troll. It just seems that Neversoft/Vicarious Visions innovate when it comes to supporting features on the Wii, whereas HMX/Pi just say the functionality is "impossible".

GHWT was the first with DLC. Yes, RB2 had DLC when it came out a month later, so was probably being developed at the same time as GHWT, but why couldn't RB1 have it? Probably because HMX or EA underestimated the market potential of the Wii.

What about importing? Sure RB has a method that works on the 360/PS3, namely patching the game to allow it to import. Just because the Wii couldn't handle that particular method meant that importing couldn't be done? Look at how GH does it, downloading. Sure it's not quite as nice as ripping from disc, since you have to download 1-2 GB of data, but at least it works and works well.

Heck, even a third party figured out a way to do it on the Wii by using a method I thought about... a channel. If it were legit, you pay 500 points for the channel, it asks for your RB1 disc, rips the tracks to SD. Why can't the main developers come up with solutions like this?

GH5 has song packs, again something that HMX said was "impossible' because of Nintendo.

I really think EA/HMX/Pi treat the Wii as a second class platform (360 and PS3 lovers can refrain from console bashing, I chose the Wii because I like other games it has to offer, having grown up with Nintendo). ACTV/NVSFT/VV push the Wii. That's why competition is good... the GH camp has to innovate and push in order to compete, and they have.

Do people even care that Wii users feel under appreciated? No.

Unfortunately there are some Wii owners who have posted in such a manner as to give the entire platform a bad name.

You mean estemshorn? :D Then again, he doesn't even have a Wii.

I have to say that I agree with the OP. Rock Band Network probably won't be on Wii or be able to use a Mac, which leaves not-Windows using people out in the cold.

Vicarious Visions has been a Nintendo developer for a long time. They're on very good terms with the company and are likely much better at convincing Ninty to innovate than Pi is.

In other words, I agree with everything that the OP is saying.

Activision uses the wii's differences from the other consoles as an advantage. The new gh5 mode where you can also play with two DS's is pure awesome. I would go out and buy a wii just for all the extra modes that gh has specially for wii. Harmonix just has the same exact game as the other consoles, only with a bit worse graphics.

Technically, if we're on the same page with that channel, it doesn't rip the songs right from the disc.

I dunno, having owned a wii previously, it IS a second rate console, in my opinion. I had it for like a year and it was just a waste.

There are two theories as to how Activision got around Nintendo's policies

1) Vicarious has been making games for the DS and Wii for a long time, so its easy for them to negotiate

2) Activision has money.

I'm not even sure Nintendo takes the Wii seriously.

That's true. I think a channel could be created that would do that, but the app I am thinking of does require a PC.

I take the Wii very seriously for playing One Piece games (http://www.wiisworld.com/images/boxpics/wii/big/One-Piece-Unlimited-Adventure-US.jpg).

Yeah, HMX should take as much care for Wii owners as GH does. That's the only thing I prefer GH for, though.
