I've gotten pretty good at GH/RB enough that Expert is pretty much what I play. I have to say the learning process has been an absolute blast, from "OMG orange note?" to "That all you got, Lou?" I could continue a very slow getting better at expert thing but that's rather boring so I decided to try something new.
Always on the prowl for new skills I've decided my new character is going to be:
1. A bassist (needed a dedicated bass character anyway)
2. Black (See #1)
3. A girl (just for variety's sake)
4. Left-handed!
So far I'm getting into medium with relative comfort but noticeable difficulty. I'm feeling all the struggle-learning sensations from Guitar Hero 1 all over again. Also I'm trying to get in the On-Beat = down strum, Off-beat = up strum "rule" with a more string-strumming technique instead of a controller-holding one.
My list of observations about the switch, lefty mode in general:
1. The strum seems to not be symmetrical in my guitar, requiring a more deliberate hit. I've modified the insides with rubber bands and such so I'm not blaming HMX or anything.
2. It would be nice to have a second silver fore strap knob for quick strap changes. I understand why it didn't come with three knobs since it spoils the looks/ costs extra. Just saying in my weird usage it would be nice.
3. My hands have certainly become specialized over the year(s)! I found myself simply pushing the buttons with my right hand and not strumming since I felt I had already made impulse to my right hand (traditionally the strumming hand).
4. There seems to be two places to set left/right hand preference. One in the main menu that affects your whole menu-game area and the option in the pause menu that seems to only affect the song gameplay and reverts to righty mode in the menus.
5. The Xbox blade doesn't respect your righty/lefty choice. Odd to input a character name with the D-pad totally reversed!
6. The cord is best managed by having it go between the guitar strap and body, otherwise it likes to hang in the way.
7. The whammy is a pain to use now. I'm glad they didn't spoil the looks by making two whammy locations or a moveable arrangement or something, just sayin'.
8. Now I'm curious about a left handed headstock lol... oh and a 4-tuning knob headstock version for dedicated bassists.
That all I can think of. Oh and I made a guitar pick out of the hard plastic of an Xbox controller vacu-form plastic retail package but it was kind of crude and small so I know I can do better. Has anyone else tried lefty simply for the challenge / something-new factor yet?
