Anyone else having some stuttering during play on their 360? It only happens off and on for me, but it is noticeable - not enough to really throw me off, but enough to ruin the experience a bit. I notice it on the fretboard - the notes stutter as they come down towards the bottom. Not sure if it makes a difference, but I'm playing through HDMI on a 55" rear-projection Sony TV.

Even if you're RB is absolutely perfect, I'd love to hear you say it so, so I know it's an issue with my gear and not systemic.

I also have this stuttering every once in a while on the fretboard and I also have the same thing happening when I play guitar hero. I have a 32" LCD HDTV and I have read multiple times that it is probably an HDMI issue since the Xbox 360 use HDMI 1.2 instead of the newer 1.3 version. I never had this stuttering problem when I used the component hookups, but I think the picture looks better via HDMI, so I can live with it. Hope this helps!

I also had stuttering note charts. I'm using regular HD though, not HDMI. I don't know what fixed it but I don't seem to have the problem anymore. I start up my 360 now with no instruments/usb hub plugged in and no disc in the drive. Once the 360 starts up I insert the disc and let it load up. After that I plug in the usb hub and then I plug in my instruments into the hub.

You could give that a try if you want. It might not help at all but it's worth a shot.

I've had a similar problem on the PS3 version.

Mine worked fine when I was back in my apartment at school, running it through HDMI. Super smooth, never a problem. Since coming home for vacation, I first used regular component cables (yellow video plug) and that was fine. I decided to pick up some composite cables (r/g/b video) since my mom's TV has no HDMI inputs, and since then have experienced the stuttering problems, off and on, but very frequently.

So as a recap:
HDMI worked fine
Component worked fine (but obviously the picture was crappier)
Composite has frequent stuttering issues

Like you said, it's not enough to mess me up, but it's still kind of annoying.

Thanks for the replies guys - I'll test out component input as well, just see if that helps at all. Maybe even switch up the HDMI cable for kicks, even though I can't imagine the cable being the problem in a digital setup. Are there any updates to the game since it was released? I haven't put it online yet.

I'll give this a shot, thanks - I tried switching over to component input instead of HDMI (someone further up said that his worked better over component), but I still had stuttering. I saw less of it, but I think it might've been cause the song had a lot fewer notes than some others I had been playing - not sure. Anyways, thanks again for all your help on this guys - if anyone else is having this issue, let us know so we can see how widespread the problem is (and if we can get any sort of good troubleshooting guide going, if we can get it fixed!)

I tried the booting up technique, and didn't really notice a difference. I also tried playing with the 360 in the up and also in the side position, no change. Would lowering the output help at all? As in, would going to 720p instead of 1080p help with framerate? Possibly?

I'm not sure what else to try...or what to blame for the issue.

I have the same problem and it makes you miss one out of about every 9 notes in a long same color streak. Even though you HIT THE NOT PROPERLY, you get that hiccup and it registers a miss or a double strum. Either way the programming needs to be looked at and this problem fixed. No one at EA will admit to this problem, yet myself and many others have it. Many of these people are experts at Guitar Hero and using their GH guitars and still get the problem. It is not a bad Rock Band Guitar (In my opinion they are all bad, the strum bar is way too stiff and does not click or give you any feedback. Your finger will get tired real soon and songs you can play on expert with the GH guitar will drop you down to hard skill with the Stratocaster). I have a new Falcon 360 and a Sony Bravia 40" LCD with HDMI hook up. I have calibrated many times. The calibration does work, except one out of every 9 or so notes in same colored streaks, WHICH TOTALLY RUINS THIS OTHERWISE GREAT GAME. THIS ERROR IN PROGRAMMING CODE SHOULD BE FIXED VIA A PATCH IMMEDIATELY OR ALL HARMONIX PROGRAMMERS SHOULD BE FIRED AND REPLACED WITH REAL PROGRAMMERS. TO RELEASE THIS GAME WITH SUCH A MAJOR PROGRAMMING FLAW IS UNEXCUSABLE.

I too am having the problem with component cables not HDMI and it happens constantly for us. It has been steadily getting worse since we got the game (on release date). We've tried 1080p, 1080i, and 780p and no real differences between any of them. We've tried playing without signing in to XBL and with it. I tried adjusting all the settings on the TV and no effect.

Our current theory is the DLC. We have a ton of DLC (almost all of them) and since it keeps getting worse and that is the only thing changing it is the only theory we have left.

Does everyone else having problems have DLC? Anyone without it still having the problem?

----Update----

Tried a new disc, tried a new saved game (new profile), deleted all DLC, tried no network connection, nothing has seemed to help.

----Update & Fix----

I have a Sony TV and I set the CineMotion to off for the Xbox360 input and that fixed the problem completely. I tried this fix before and it didn't work but I think the setting did not get saved. Anyways, maybe this will help someone else and it might be why some of you are having luck changing the input type.

Have an Elite here. Slowdown is so rare as to be non-existant thusfar when using PC/VGA out or HDMI both in 1080p. The few(one?) time we got some slowdown the framerate dropped out and gameplay itself was unaffected. Although, I'd say, the entire situation is basically surprising enough to throw you off anyway so you'll probably miss. All previous Harmonix games have this issue far, far worse but deal with it the same way IE: Bad framerate but gameplay remains technically unaffected.

If you are really having this issue a great deal give the VGA out a shot and see if it still happens since we use that quite a bit more than the HDMI out. If you are seeing this issue "a lot" I doubt changing from 1080p will affect it as that is what we always play at.:(

Hello all,

I found this thread while searching for "Rock Band 2 stuttering". I'd never experienced this stuttering on my Panasonic plasma but I hooked up to a 52" Sony Bravia XBR5 LCD television and the stuttering was so bad it was next to unplayable. I tried changing the output of my 360 to 720p (from 1080p) and had the same problem. I've been doing some research and this problem seems to be associated with either Sony LCD televisions or LCD televisions in general. Guitar Hero World Tour played with zero errors on the same television. How many of you Rock Band players (that have this stuttering problem) are using LCD televisions? How many are using Plasma?

I get this problem on my 40" samsung series 6 running in 1080p hooked up to my 360 via HDMI with just one player using the guitar (haven't tried other or multiple instruments yet)

I've installed the game to the HDD but it's still a problem and I seem to be missing notes because of it. Any ideas what I can do to fix it?

When I first got the game I never had the problem thr first couple of days. All of a sudden today it is doing this for me. There is no way it has anything to do with my setup at all because I haven't changed anything. It is very annoying though.

*Edit

Ok so I lied. I have a Sony LCd 40" along with a Sony HTIB. When I turned Theatre Mode on, on the HTIB it also changes the TV to Theatre Mode. I turned off Theatre mode on the TV and all is back to normal now.

I had this problem. Turns out the motion engines in some newer TV's have trouble figuring out all the movement (especially vertical movement.)

Go to your TV settings and turn the motion enhancer off, or turn the TV to game mode

EDIT: I have seen this problem occur on 3 Sony Bravia TV's and my Samsung series 6 LED.
