Stick mods?

Like, most people, I want quiter drums, but I also don't want to disect the drums or cut up mousepads that I don't have. So I was wondering if anybody had any ideas for things I could do to the drumsticks themselve to help quiet the noise.

I tried a few things. A lot of people suggested using bubble wrap around the tips, it works okay, as long as the bubbles don't pop >.< I also tried some styrofoam packing peanuts and tape, they worked marvelously...until little pieces of styrofoam went flying everywhere from hitting a drum pad too hard. Then i got so desperate I tried socks, towels, just about anything laying around the house to quiet them. no real success really. you're probably better off using a foam drum pad or something, you can get them at a local fabric store cheap. i personally have just decided to turn up the sound louder to block it out.
