No LEGO Spongebob avatar?

I was disappointed to see there wasn't a Spongebob LEGO guy in the rock shop. I figured with the MTV/Nick tie-ins like Spongebob DLC, coupled with LEGO's Spongebob collection that the ol yellow fella would be a shoe-in!

Maybe a patch to add some additional LEGO characters could be in our future?

Well, this is the first game to have actual licensed characters in it. Maybe they didn't want to overdo it in case it was poorly received.

HMX did it right and essentially poked fun at "other games" with licensed avatars (and avoided the legal trouble!) The LEGO rock star avatars are genius.

And to Doc's point, it's a shame they couldn't secure the LucusArts licensing.

Also, on top of all the licensing costs to get the songs, licensing Star Wars and Batman characters would have been too expensive.

I think a Spongebob avatar would've been overdoing it. Considerably. While this game pushes the boundaries a bit, there was still some level of credibility they were trying to maintain.

Adding Spongebob would NOT help that.

I never expected to see the Star Wars, Indy, or Batman characters in this one. Which is a shame because LEGO Chewie on drums would have been just far too awesome :D

I'm just glad that not only do we have LEGO versions of the Rock Band avatars, but a few of the setlist bands too.

I hate Spongebob. Can't stand the show and certainly don't own any of the DLC, but if they released a Spongebob avatar, I'd definitely throw him into the band rotation.

Licensing aside, all the playable characters in LRB have the same structure, so they can use the same skeletal animations. A Spongebob character would require all unique animations to fit his structure, and that doesn't seem to have been part of TT's design for the game.

TT already had to license, in addition to the music, the likeness of Harmonix's Rock Band Avatars, Iggy Pop, David Bowie, Blur, Queen, and Spinal Tap. Adding other IPs would push the price of Lego Rock Band to $59.99, if not higher, sans the export key.

Adding Spongebob would NOT help that.I think him, patrick, sandy, and squidward should have been the reward for beating all the gigs. Not part of the actual special band locked to a sponge bob song, but more of as a special reward for beating the game.

That is cool, but there's no vocals. All the songs in LRB have all parts, so they probably wouldn't have used that.

I want to throw in my support for adding LEGO Spongebob as DLC
I was bummed out when we played the Spongebob songs and he didn't appear. With two Spongebob DLC packs already, there's plenty of justification for adding the character. Hopefully there's a third DLC pack to tie in with one of the new DVDs and they include the LEGO character(s) as well.
