I'm watching Cowboys @ Panthers on NFL Network and in the space of about two minutes I heard "Suffragette City" being played in the stadium and "Won't Get Fooled Again" as they went to commercial.

Now, yes, those are two very popular songs, but they fit a pattern I've noticed at least since the first Guitar Hero came out: a lot of these songs are getting airplay in stadiums and sports broadcasts, in commercials and all sorts of places.

Am I a bit daft, or are these games really having that much influence on what people are listening to across the country?

I have Sirus Radio but on it I have been hearing some queens of the stone age songs that are in rockband.

I think maybe people just notice them more since they're in the games.

I have no idea if it's all in my head or what, but ever since GH2 came out I've noticed songs that are in the games seem to get played on the radio a lot more often. I even remember one time when they played Jessica on my local rock station, and the DJ talked about playing it in GH afterward.

Yes. That's how I got into this music, sadly. But, i'm only 12, and that's the only way to be introduced to Rock/Metal because of all the sh*t music they play on MTV.

They still play music on MTV? I thought they quit doing that years ago.

As you might have guessed from my opening post, I watch a lot of football, and it's really common to use the instrumental breaks from songs when they put up the score as they go to commercial.

Today, I heard the guitar solo from When You Were Young during one such break.

Of course, when you consider how often they go to break in these games, the law of averages says they're gonna use songs you know from somewhere...

LoL! I actually had a good giggle at this one.

I think that we just notice the songs more after we have played them several hundred times. I mean Harmonix usually picks songs that are at least fairly popular.

Im glad to know this. I hope there are more people like you and then there will be a large enough fan base of rock/metal for some good bands to get famous.

Just prior to RB's release, I was hearing almost the entire setlist between my two staple radio stations: Highway Star, Paranoid, Suffragette City, Gimme Shelter, In Bloom. I don't know if it's just heightened awareness, but these were songs that I hadn't heard in awhile. Might be a link.
