Microphone Not Detected

I am playing PS2 Rockband (game only) with the PS3 peripherals. I have bought a Belkin USB Hub in order to get 2 more ports and the guitar works fine either through the hub or directly into the game itself. The microphone, however, it is not detected no matter where it is plugged in. Is this an issue between PS2 and PS3? or a faulty Mic or should I be using a game controller somehow along with the mic in order to detect it? Thanks!
