View Full Version : Who's your Favorite Beatle?

My favorite Beatle is Paul McCartney. I always liked Paul McCartney because to me most of the songs he wrote were some what deep and meaningful and others were just what you liked.

So who was your favorite Beatle? Was it John, George, Ringo or Paul?

TheBeatleHead

George Harrison.

John was always my favorite, for about a hundred different reasons, but I think the number one reason is that I can relate to him in many different ways.

In fact, George was a great musician, and a beautiful person. Paul was better musician than John, that was better than Ringo. But in my opinion, Paul and John were both a little... agressive with their opinions and thoughts.

Ringo's just a not bad musician, and a he doesn't know how to treat the fans.

I would have to say Paul McCartney. I never realized how good of a bassist he really is before I bought RB:TB. He is an excellent musician, and broke major ground with Helter Skelter.

WeeJay
11-19-2009, 01:40 PM
I've always disliked Paul, and always liked John. As for Ringo and George, TB:RB really formed my opinion of them much more. I've gained quite a liking for Ringo, as he's so similar to me, and just kicks ass. George is pretty cool, and IMO the best looking of the 4. Also I feel he never wrote a bad song. So,
John > Ringo > George >>>>>>>>> Paul :P

I'd go for Paul, then George, then Lennon and then Ringo, Lennon and Ringo are still probably great people, I just think Ringo at times was actually rather big headed with his antics with Keith Moon, never thought he was that funny.

Lennon's political views really differ from mine, and lost alot of respect with Yoko for me, still can't stand Yoko.

George was an amazing musician and from interviews I've read a fantastic guy, his legacy is gonna be pure forever, but sometimes I wonder how much the whole obsession with Indian culture took its toll, and how drug fuelled it was...

Paul is just a guy who's an entertainer, still a Rock and Roll star on stage, handled alot of controvesy the past couple of years and I really like how he's done. Amazing musician, scarily good in fact.

If you read their biographies, and listen in on some of the after-Beatles interviews, you learn that the person behind each icon is waaay different than the Beatle image (well, except for Ringo, he's always been pretty straight forward).

So, as a person: George - he's the dude that you just want to hang with and have a brew.

As a musician: Paul/John - you can't really separate the duo because of the profound influence that they had on each other's music. Sure, when they went solo, they had their shining moments, but not nearly to the same extent as when they were able to tell the other exactly what they did or didn't like about a song. A prime example is Paul's discussion on how he was going to remove the "the movement you need is on your shoulder" line from Hey Jude, until John told him to keep it, in the Anthology. The contrasting tastes of Paul's "sweet" and John's "sour" was what made their songs so great (and, dare I say, challenged George to continually better his own musical compositions).

So... that's my lecture for today. G'day (or, in Canadian: g'deh!)

All subjective to me but here we go...

George, I believe had the best post Beatles career.
I think his third status in the group helped him some too; they wouldn't put his stuff on an album unless it was dynamite which makes nearly 100% of his Beatles songs incredible.
Plus he had all those songs ready for All Things Must Pass after the breakup.
As a technical musician I don't hear too much to write home about, but his experimenting with instruments definitely helped the Beatles sound immensely. Great high harmonies too.
He also recruited Clapton and Preston into the studio. The rest is history.

He's my fav for those reasons. Plus I love the Traveling Wilburys

Paul and Ringo I think are underappreciated, even by Beatles fans, as MUSICIANS. Again just my 2 cents, but I think its the drums and bass playing in particular that stands out today about their music. I play bass so I may be slightly biased. But Rock Band has enforced just how technically awesome these two were, even in simplified form.

I like almost all the stuff Paul wrote too. Paul being the better songwriter and having the best singing voice in the group, I'll give him the edge over Ringo.
Octopus's Garden for life though.

I feel John had the most notable post-Beatles song (I dont think I have to name it) and without his early wit and leadership the group probably could not have have become the phenomenon they were. Tough to get by just on McCartney's looks!
My favorite songs of his are probably my fav Beatles songs period. As a technical musician probably the worst of the group.
But he had some others that I rank beneath most of Pauls, and all of George's and Ringo's. I like his solo career about the same as I like Paul's and Ringo's too.

So final tally:
George
Paul
Ringo
John

I dont really want to get into them personally, but if some of those stories about John were true and I was in the Beatles, there would have been more than just a little animosity in that studio. But I see no reason to try and rank them as people without knowing them. An artist is his work I suppose.

kkawachi

Just an addendum, being the worst "technical musician" in the Beatles still puts you above 90% of what's out there. No insult intended John fans!
